Goodwood has a question for all you FemSheppers out there who romanced a squadmate who was not human, or who see Shep in your headcanon as having a lasting relationship with a non-human. This thought has been rattling around in his brain for some time, in fact since he decided that Liara was the canonical love interest for all Sheps in his own headcanon.
Basically, it goes like this. Warning, somewhat long story coming up -- tl;dr-type people might want to skip to the last paragraph.
The year is 2203 (Earth standard date), Jane Shepard and Liara T'Soni are living in a house on Mindor in her old hometown, long since rebuilt. It is morning, and the two bondmates are lingering over their breakfast as the pitter-patter of little asari feet beat a tattoo throughout the upper-middle class dwelling.Shepard (shifting her shoulders slightly): "Liara, I have a question for you, if you don't mind..."
Liara (smiles slightly): "I get the feeling this isn't about where we're taking the kids today, Jane."
Shepard (somewhat uncomfortably): "Well, it is related to us, and to kids. It's something that's been bothering me for a while now."
Liara takes Jane's hand in hers and gives it a gentle squeeze.Liara (reassuringly): "Jane, whatever is on your mind, I want to hear it."
Shepard (hesitatntly): "I'm not really sure how to ask this, actually. With humans having two genders, male and female, and asari having only one..."
Liara: "What is troubling you, Jane?"
Shepard (pause): "I guess it's a cultural thing, but it seems to be too nebulous. I don't want to offend you..."
Liara (smiling): "Trust me Jane, these past years have thickened my skin quite a bit. Ask away."
Shepard (sighs, then slouches slightly in her chair): "I want to have a baby."
Liara (slightly confused): "Jane, we already have four children. We could afford a dozen more, but I'm not sure I can go--"
Liara falls silent at the look on Jane's face, a sort of sad glance that conveys to the asari that she has misunderstood the question.Shepard (straightens up in her chair): "It's not you who I want to have the baby -- it's me."
Jane stands, then takes her breakfast dishes to the kitchen and takes her time with them as she gathers her thoughts. After seeing to them, she returns to the table and takes her seat.Shepard: "I'm almost fifty, Liara. By human standards in this day and age, I'm nearing the end of my childbearing years. Two hundred years ago I would have already gone through what we call 'menapause' and that would be that. You know and have experienced the pleasures involved in bringing a new life into the universe. But I need to have that too, just this once, before it's too late. A human child, one that has grown within me, and to whom I can give birth."
Liara (looks at Jane with a mixture of fascination and sorrow in her eyes, mulls over these thoughts for some time before speaking): "I can see how this has affected you, Jane. The Goddess forbid that I keep the need to have children to myself. How would you like to proceed?"
Shepard (flushes with relief at Liara's understanding): "Actually...I haven't quite planned that far ahead yet. There are options, but I wanted to explore them together..."
SCENEBasically, Goodwood wants to know if your various FemSheps would ever want to have children of their own, borne of their own flesh, if they were to enter into a lasting relationship with a non-human (whether or not that person is on her team). He sees this as an interesting aspect to such a relationship, and feels that his FemSheps would indeed feel the need to procreate naturally, either through artificial insemination or a surrogate partner (get your minds out of the gutter). And he thinks that Liara would certainly be understanding about it.
