 I finished a second playthrough of Arrival. I feel obligated to complete it with each character; this time around was with Nemain. Can't say she felt too bad about letting so many Batarians die, but she certainly was not as regretful as Devi.

 I thought playing the DLC a second time would improve my opinion of it yet it still feels so bland and limited. As Shepard I could not show grief or joy at the decision I was forced to make, and some of the dialogue was simply cheesy. (Example: Dr Kenson towards the end tells Shepard: "I will die never having seen the Reapers blessings. And you will just......die." God, it was such an awful delivery. :pinched:)

I did like the fact that Shepard carried into the cutscene whatever weapon she was using in battle (did anyone notice this?) and I also liked the heavier presence of synthesized background music. In this sense it felt more like ME1.

I won't defend Arrival, but I liked it more than most for the
implications.  On the weapon cutscene, mine was actually wrong every
time.  Then again, I played a vangard and used the Matock quite a bit.
It normally depicted UJ w/ the Locust.  I may need to play a more
traditional vangard and use the shotgun and see what happens.

I really miss the scar and the lighting and the ... never mind. Thanks to Sable for the mention.

@Jamie: That's odd. Maybe it was just by coincidence that Nemain was using the Locust before the cutscenes started. Devi (a soldier) had a heavy pistol instead. I feel so silly now. I have these scenes recorded and it looks as though the game might just choose a default weapon depending on your class type (before the cutscenes Devi was using the Mattock assault rifle...)

@Scampermax: Thank you! :)

That was truly the most idiotic moment in the DLC. I was thinking in disbelief "Did she just say that? She didn't just say that, right?". Then I cracked. I mean really. I laughed, loudly.

And damn this thread moves fast. I propably have a billion pages to catch up again when I get some sleep. Still love to see all this support for femshep. <3

So, we still haven't seen up here the .ini file mods to give us full freezing and full flycam capabilities in cutscenes for ME1, like we saw used in datSilencer's videos, to give us the ability to take even more awesome screenshots of our femSheps.  Any chance we'll get to see that sometime soon?

>prods datSilencer for good measure, even though the hint was totally unsubtle<

Argh, the bindings... yes. My apologies, I left my ini files made a mess after Time Orchid. Aislinn has a small summary. Check if the modifications worked for her.

Cheers.

.... AH YES.... BINDINGS.....

heheheheheeh ;)

Could you not just post the bindings here? That way we don't all have to harass Aislinn to get them. I'm pretty sure most people here who have the PC version would want to use them.

Screenshots tend to be quite popular in this thread. :)

There, dug up in my messages, and made a blog post. Go make me proud B)

In the same way I told Aislinn, I'm telling you now ;)

When I figured out how to unlock the cinematic flycam, I kind of felt like Edward Elric at the gate of Wisdom heheheh :P.

Be careful, because: "There's no way to know where it will lead for you" ;)

@datSilencer

Thanks for sharing!  I'm going to be playing with those settings soon.  After I finish with my current video.  =-)

Speaking for myself, I don't tend to take video games too seriously.  They are, after all, games.  A fun distraction in another universe, another place where there is no limit to the imagination.  That's what makes me adore them so much.  Creativity, style, artistic license; it's a fantastic medium with so many possibilities.

I don't expect them to have a flawless story, to be written as well as a novel/tv show/movie, or be completely realistic all the time.  Many successful games have had horrendous writing.  There are tons of things in both ME games I could pick apart till the cows come home.  Does that effect my love for the series?  Hell no!  I also have an overactive imagination that allows me to come up with explanations for things, not to mention fill in the holes. Maybe I'm just easily appeased, I don't know...

I LOVE both Mass Effect games and for different reasons.  That's enough for me.  I'm sorry if people don't find the direction the series is going in satisfactory, though.

I also think we should talk more about FemShep.  ;)

Anyway, I'm going to sit back and enjoy the ride.  And post some pictures of Holly, because she kicks ass.

Also, a note that came up in other places discussing Arrival... Shepard wiped out a majority of non-batarians, actually. The readout for the planet reads something like "Population: 90,000 Batarian, 215,000 Other".  Given the batarians' slaving ways, I'm betting that a lot of them were humans.

 I admit, that's something I briefly skimmed over. Looking back at the screenshot now the codec mentions 90,000(free) and the rest as "other". Whatever that means, I'm not sure. It's strange that the characters only mention Batarians, however. Either way I think it's clear that whether you buy this DLC or not, it will be featured as an important part of ME3's beginning.
 (And why, oh, why could I not have Kaiden as a companion in this add-on?!)

hmm...i never noticed that either. that actually makes me feel less bad about the decision. am i a horrible person for that? but seriously, if i think of talitha.... i feel less bad about ending her suffering and ending the ones doing it to her.

and i'm actually really glad kaidan wasn't around for this one - or any squaddie, really. i think this classifes as a 'had to be done,' but i imagine it was hard enough without someone gasping in horror in the background.

@Sage
I cannot even imagine what it would have been like for Holly if Thane had been with her.  :?

Not that he'd question her actions, but I'm sure she would have felt pretty low.

@Jamie

I'm glad you enjoy my vids, and thanks!  <3

As for weapons in cutscenes, Holly always seemed to have the Locust.  At least there was no magical assault rifle or pistol switch, that I saw anyway.

Rhea finally made it through all 5 waves in the Object Rho battle on Hardcore. The Revenant helped, along with finally having found a good position to work from and a few strategic sniper rifle headshots.

Yeah, I kinda felt that way a little too.  Eased their suffering, a small consolation, but maybe something.  Yeah, I’m glad there wasn’t a squadmate to comment.

Kaidan: I know it’s a difficult decision Shepard, but it has to be done.
Ashley: I know it’s a difficult decision Shepard, but it has to be done.
Liara: I can’t imagine a more difficult decision, but … goddess, you have to do it, Shepard.
Jacob: Gotta be done Shepard.  I don’t envy you.
Miranda: It has to be done, Shepard.
Samara: By the Goddess, My heart goes out to the innocents killed in the tragedy, but it must be done. Let us hope we do not meet again once my oath to you is lifted.
Legion: Shepard Commander, we regret to inform you that we can see no other alternative course of action.
Jack: On, no.  You’re not spoiling my record.  Let me at that button, Shepard.
Zaeed: Hell, it’s just goddamned Batarians. If you don’t have the nerve, let me push that goddamned button.
Thane: By the Goddess of Oceans. I do not envy the path you must take, but I will be by your side when you take it.
Kasumi: I’m sorry, Shep.  I can’t imagine … *cries*
Garrus: We’ll make the Reapers pay for this.
Tali: Keilah, you have to do it, Shepard, no matter how much you don’t want to, it has to be done.
Mordin: Must hurry and press button before time runs out. Can deal with stress related anxiety later.  Lots of alcohol will be consumed, I imagine.

@Skald

Me likey! I haven't played my Revenant-using Soldier, Trista, in a long time. That gun had so much kick, but damn is it fun to shoot at things. My nickname for it is the "Bullet Storm", which I actually came up with before I'd even heard of the game with the same title. XD

@Jamie

I love Mordin and Jack's responses.  :lol:  I do admit, if I was in FemShep's shoes I would have felt very much alone in that decision.  Some of my Sheps are taking it much better than others.  Trista, Holly and Aislinn are the more emotional ones.  It would bother Mac, but she wouldn't let it show.  Erin and Moira don't really give a crap. Constance would see it as necessary and unpleasant business, but wouldn't dwell on it.

I do have a silly question to toss out here, though! Sorry if something similar has been asked:

So, it's party-time, and with parties inevitably come booze, strippers, and... drunken karaoke. What song does your FemShep get up there and sing?

(For the purposes of this question we'll just have to assume Shepard's into 'oldies' so none of us are stuck trying to write what would be a contemporary song to her.)

OOOO! :D

This a fun one!  Maddy is a huge fan of the classics anyway. She is a huge Pat Benatar fan .....so with a few beers or a few too many shots of single malt Scotch in her....she'll be belting out "Invincable", Hit Me With Your Best Shot" "Love is a battlefield" or "Fire and Ice" in no time :lol:

She is also a big fan of early rock n' roll.....so if there is a piano handy, you might see her "pounding the 88's" too :lol:

I had to think about this one a bit before answering.

The only Sheps of mine I could see actually singing karaoke:

Holly - Something by Queen or Heart ('Crazy on You' comes to mind).
Mac - The Ramones, The Donnas or The Offspring
Aislinn - Pat Benetar, Cyndi Lauper or Joan Jett

If you asked any of my other Sheps to get up and sing they'd most likely reply with a glare.  :lol:

Lili likes some of Cascada, some Evanescence, some Gretchen Wilson, some Breaking Benjamin, and some Billy Talent, plus lots others. I'd think after a lot of beers, she'd be singing somethings like:
"Runaway"   "Everytime We Touch"   "Going Under"   "Red Neck Woman"   "I Got Your Country Right Here"   "Work Hard Play Harder"   "I'm Here For The Party"   "Blow Me Away"   "Give Me A Sign"   "Rusted From The Rain"   "The Dead Can't Testify"  and maybe even  "Slow Ride"
(I guess it's a good thing she can sing. She used to sing all the time on Mindoir.)

@Jamie

FemShep/TIM rivalmance!  You know you want it!

Maybe it's just me, but I'd think it would be funny as hell if BigBen turned out to be a complete cad.  No issues, just do his job, get drunk, get laid and get out.  Y'know, Sean Connery Bond material, love 'em and leave 'em, pat femShep on the behind, get his a** kicked and come back for more.

or maybe I just need sleep.

But no matter what, femShep is cool through it all.

EDIT: @ ELE she is gorgeous.

   Without any of the squadmates around the whole DLC felt more like a dream. What happened is such a big deal but I can't help but feel it's all ho hum because of the lack of other squadmate dialogue. It wouldn't have been such a bad idea to have the Arrival storyline expanded and used as the plot for ME2 instead of that whole Collector mess. :P
