Hmmm... Can any of you honestly say that there isn't at least a little bit of "you" in every femShep you create (or really any character in any game or story)?
The first time I fully played through the game (with the original Artemis), I wasn't paying attention to and didn't have any kind of handle on the Paragon/Renegade system, and I simply chose the dialog options that *I* (like to think I) would have chosen had it been me in that situation. Then, in seeing that play out, Artemis became her own character, rather than an avatar of me. That's just the way the game seems to work for me.
And now that I understand the game universe better and am building the characters of my two femSheps, I can more direct the character building rather than just letting it emerge from a first run through the game. But still, there is definitely a good bit of *me* in my characters
#. If there weren't I'd probably have a much more difficult time relating to them and understanding them and making them feel real. And, even now, despite knowing most of the dialog options and their outcomes when I get to them, my characters still surprise me by "telling" me which option I should choose. So, they started as part me and part what the game's back-stories determine for them, and then they take off and grow on their own without any planning.
Incidentally, this may be why I can't really do maleShep. Despite being male myself, I just can't really relate to him. Part of that is the different voice acting.
# and I'm not just talking about ME characters. Occasionally I have been known to write a short story here or there, and there is definitely some of me in every character I've ever created. If there weren't then the characters just don't seem real. But, despite being part me, they have "lives" of their own. That is, I don't control them. I just "create" them, throw them into a situation, and watch what they do.
