I never understood the notion that Femshep's voice is that of a "butch lesbian". Her voice is exactly how I picture a trained battle hardened female military leader to be like.

I guess they expect her to sound like some uber girly valley girl or something.

Aislinn - your drawing is amazing, Liara baby with pyjack is rivaling in cuteness the littlest fluffiest puppies, as for butch lesbians? eh, I'd say they are both jealous and afraid - afraid because someone as amazing as Shepard would never give them a time of the day, too independent and smart :)  they just make Simone facepalm

the commanders is giving me ideas...scary drawing ideas that I don't think I have skills for :/ group portrait of my femsheps...I even have the idea for the poses (and not all of them would be dignified.. but they all would fit their personalities)

Lol wait you mean people seriously have that opinion?!  The only two occasions I have seen that said is by people attempting to troll and get an angry reaction.  They probably havent even played more then a few hours with her.

Anyway its all in context. In battle scenes or cutscenes during missions you expect an aura of authority and respect in her voice.  I think its perfect for both paragon and renegade actions you take.  When you talk to your team mates back on the Normandy you expect a more down to earth approach.  Thats what you get.  Jen Hale really does get an amazing balance for the different environments and encounters you are in.  Its more then just paragon/renegade decisions but specifically tailored to environments and contexts too.

It gives more humanity to her. I dont think the stoic approach Bioware took to manshep adds as much as it could. Not saying its negative, its just different between the gender roles. Thus an additional reason why I prefer playing femshep.

I don't personally feel the need to compare female Shep vs male Shep. I enjoy female Shep for what she is, not for what male Shep isn't. She doesn't need to be compared with her counterpart to be recognized as awesome.:innocent:

Very much agreed

Although the comparisons are always going to be there because she exists as both genders. It also shows that Shepard exists as the same person no matter what sex you take. Their decsions and actions are genderless.

Makes for a more rocking female Shep doesnt it B)

They don't, which is why they call Mark Meer's voice acting for Shepard "monotone."

So, I had a bad moment today where I was bombarded with yet another round of: "FemShep is just a butch lesbian, I hate her voice" nonsense from people around the internet. Well, after we talked about ELE08's Shepard graveyard I got an idea, since she arguably has the cutest femSheps around. So after digging through all my old careers for a Jacob romance save, since it was the only time in the whole game where femShep sits with her legs crossed I managed to snag a few screenies after using Gibbed to put ELE's Lena Shepard face on that old career.

AAAAHHH! femloo! ELE, that is a terrible, yet strangely wonderful addition to the ME universe there. i think it needs a wiki entry.

Speaking of eyes being messed up, it seems like every time I use a tech. attack (in ME1), my femSheps roll their eyes downwards, like they want to check and make sure their toes are still there while using the omnitool. Not good for trying to get tech attack pictures that include their faces.

Anyone else have this problem? This is the main reason I don't have any decent tech attack shots showing Artemis's face.

yes. i think it's because the eyes tend to look to some specified "source of action" and that could be an omnitool, a gun, etc. and sometimes it gets confused.

Cara and I were playing ME2 last night, and on the Disable Blood Pack Relay N7 mission while she was scouting around for minerals, she walked up against a wall and suddenly started going up. And up and up. I never did get her back down and had to reload the save.

Ah, the weird things that happen.

Speaking of bugs, in ME1 my FemShep somehow managed to end up on top of a crate (which I think you're not meant to be able to do). It was only two or three feet off the ground but, for some reason, she refused to step off of it again. I guess Kristen is afraid of heights. >.>

Too late!!!
Then again - it's no worse than Fnar, is it? At least this way we get to stick it to BioWare's marketing department and their "icon"

Speaking of which - one question for everyone: How would your femSheps react to hearing the various newsbroadcasts about her, like how Mindoir has now decided to use her likeness on their colonial seal?

My work is done! Glad you approve [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/joyful.png[/smilie] I made her an engineer (used a random career I had downloaded just so I could get maximum amounts of screenies). I have to say that she even makes Barrier look sexy
Oh and I just watched the Lara Logan interview. All I can say is wow - spot on! Seriously, that is the perfect example of what we've been saying about how being attractive doesn't affect anything you do professionally.

I think she would be taken aback.   She's just there to do her job and help humanity and the Galaxy. Now she is in the public eye and being talked about by everyone.  Fame where its not wanted really.  Your jobs already hard enough and now at the back of your mind you also know more then just officials are waching you.

Thanks! Looking at it now, though - I wish I had Photoshop so I could reduce some of the clipping. As good an excuse as any to learn that program, right? With some minor work I think this would make a great wallpaper.

Flycam is so cool.  I found out that Jessica gives Liara a very faint half-smile as she's stepping into the elevator, right before the "Come back soon, Liara..."

I find it amazing the cinematics team would include something so subtle, when it doesn't even show up in the default camera position.

Sarah is suprised. She really dislike the part of being famous. All she want to do is her duty to the galaxy and having such a honor is a heavy burden but she accept it and promise herself to continue

my least favorite (but still beloved) shepard first ;]

Image IPB

Intro stuff

Name:  rhiannon shepard
Background: spacer, war hero
Alignment: well that depends, ME1 or ME2? ME1, well, she did what she thought the alliance would think was best, even though in many situations, she believed the opposite choice was the best. after her death, she felt extremely hurt that the alliance backtracked on everything she had done, and began to work very closely with cerberus. her alignment became more  80% paragon, 60% renegade.
class: soldier
Favorite Combat Ability or Abilities: her ability to mow people down with her revenant; also, she developed some biotic abilities (read: "weak" slam) after exposure to red sand during samara's recruitment mission.

Decisions, decisions, decisions....

ME1 Council: "concentrate on sovereign" -> their deaths
The Rachni: buhbye
What happened on Feros?: everybody spared
Virmire: saved kaidan
Conrad Verner: ehm... i think she shoved a gun in his face. stress, ya know? ;]
Noveria: goodbye mr. anoleis.
Bring Down the Sky: killed balak
Anderson or Udina: anderson

ME2 and the Council: refused to speak to her :c; took spectre status for legitimize her cerberus activities
The Collector Base: of course, she gave papa TIM the base; what could go wrong... :x
Suicide Mission casualties: jack, because miranda "couldn't" hold the bubble
The Geth: boom
Tali: rallied the crowd, no exile
Genophage cure data: destroyed; she hates krogans (EXHIBIT A: wrex)
Overlord: gave david to grissom academy
Kasumi: i dun remember... :c but i think she allowed kasumi to keep it
arrival: shot kenson, called for the normandy

Personal stuff

Romance: kaidan, then jacob

Why shepard is such a great match with kaidan/jacob:

she's really... not? idk, i saw her as using both men, trying to get closer to someone, anyone. even tried to romance garrus, but then backed out of her statements, because she couldn't imagine herself with a turian.

i don't know where she's gonna go in mass effect 3, because she's so confused. i've got a feeling she's gonna stick with jacob, because he is a lot more confident in rhiannon and her choices, whereas kaidan was always worrying about her. besides, her employment with cerberus will make any reconciliation with kaidan extremely difficult, anyway.

Best Friends:
garrus, jacob, miranda, joker.

Personality:

confused is the best way to put it. she doesn't know who she is, nor does she feel she has much to show for her life, because it was always about her parents winning her great, prestigious posts, that would win her respect,  or what the alliance would want. with cerberus, it is like how miranda said: they give her resources, and say, do it. she feels they are confident in her abilities, and she appreciates that.

Three fun facts:
1. the lore says that she saved elysium. she didn't. she WAS there, but quickly got out of the city when word hit that the batarian were going to attack. it is likely that the alliance knew this, but she was always more of their "poster girl" anyway, so they still promoted her as the hero of the blitz. her parents were war heroes, so she had to be one, too.
2. in many ways, anderson is her father figure. he has been there for her throughout her military career, as her was her parents' family friend.
3. is becoming an alcoholic to cope with her issues.

That is a nice little touch. It's rather fitting too, I imagine that half-smile/lopsided grin as a feature of my Shepard. :3

I'll second Paint.Net.  I'm no artist, so I wouldn't use 90% of Photoshop's full functionality, but Paint.Net does everything that I need it to do, and it's free, so yay!
