Strange thing, that.  I do put pieces of myself into my female characters like femshep, so at least partially they're an extension of myself.

On the flipside, I picture my canon-Hawke as male, and I just find myself randomly drooling over him, like watching a movie with an exceptionally handsome leading man.  Is that how it is for some male femshep players I wonder?

I don't put myself into my characters. I'm boring :D

Although strange things happen.... for example, the Rachni Queen "choice". In my games she never dies, not even when Shepard leans towards the renegade path. I always make the same thing.
But, if I have to make that choice ? Damn. Big gigantic ugly nasty talking bug ? Acid and then fire, just to be sure.

As for femshep, hell yeah... no drooling,  but  something nice to look at for hours and hours is cool.
And there's the voice acting, but we covered that hundreds of times

I "only" made 2 runs in DA2, both femHawkes, but I played the demo with dudeHawke, and the voice was great. Probably I'll end up at 50/50 ratio there

I could never play as an avatar of myself and act out my fantasies via my Shepard.  I find that creepy.  No offense if this is what some like.

See my last post sort of stated in a sense I play Amelia as an avatar.  I dont, but I put myself into her shoes and play to the personality I gave her.  Which in this sense are my own moral decisions.  Thats why im finding it difficult to describe my attachment to her.  She's not me. That would be weird, but she holds the values I hold to me personally as I present them through her.   Which is what we all do sometimes with the morality decisions the game gives.  I just find it easier to present my reasons through her.

urghhh Im really not good at explaining this and that just sounds confusing and conflicting :P

Oh love the party hat pics Ryn! :D

I haven't fully caught up with the thread yet (Still on page 1142, also, hello femsheps!) Been a while I know, but I had been to busy with RL to play arrival and didn't want it to get spoiled. Anyways, I was digging through my imports from way back when and I found Mara's original save and it occurred to me just how -eerily- she looked like Kyrie! Completely unintentional, but, Mara was also my first ME1 adept play through!

See for yourself!

It's like... we shared brainwaves when we'd never met. I never got attached to that particular face as I was planning to change it but... still! Seeing recent pics of Sage's just made me have a derp moment IRL.

I play a FemShep, well... because in general I feel I either look like a character or I don't... and in the last case it might as well be a female - there's enough games to play as a male already.

I'm in a camp that relates better to femshep because of my gender. I play both male and female characters, but male characters never resonate with me the way female ones do, and its especially true in case of Shepard. my Shepards are not me. they have pieces of me, some more then others, but they can be difficult to play sometimes, because they want to make choices I wouldn't have. but I still relate to them, the way I just cannot relate to male characters. I'm not a writer :/

this one was supposed to be me-Shepard. she run away from me a fair bit and she's no longer a me Shepard, but she has the most pieces of me of all my Shepards (including me trying to make her look like me in RL.. its not perfect but somewhat close :P)

Hahaha.

That was my motivation in the CC back in 2008 (I was trying to create a character that looked like Nefertiti, after all), but about 30 minutes of playing the game changed that. But the character looking good, regardless of gender, is an important part of Mass Effect. They succeeded (at least for me) in creating a movie-like atmosphere where you do want your actors to not only have a good story but to look good doing it.

Myddine is not like me at all, it's like creating, directing and then watching a beautiful female Micheal Corleone in Space Godfather or something. Minus any similarity in story events. But you get the idea.

Speaking of looking good...Team Top Heavy, assemble!

I'm back... New laptop, new danger...  And to celebrate, I'm starting from scratch again.  That's right folks, a new Katie Shep to take all the way from ME1 to the end of 'The Arrival' in ME2.  And I've got to redo my version of ELE's superb AltJack outfit (we'll ignore the 16 hours I spent modding it in PS to make it suit my FemShep and start again).  Ah well, no rest for the wicked if I want the 'perfect' runthrough before ME3 comes out...

(Also got to play DAO again before I can fire up my shiny copy of DA2 and start that).

I play femShep 'cause I'm tired of all the cliches rampant in male video game protagonists. She also has the fortune of being nearly 100% free of all of the cliches for female video game protagonists (which is one of the reasons I'm glad that marketing hasn't dug their claws into her). She's interesting, strong, and capable without having to add "for a girl" as a qualifier. Maybe it's simply a happy coincidence because she fills a role that's also playable by a male, but I like that she's not 'female' (at least as defined by marketing reps).

When I RP her, of course some of myself comes through in her thought processes (I've gained a surprising amount of self-knowledge from writing fanfiction), but she's definitely become her own person, and I love that!

I'm trying to reconstruct her face in the facemaker so I can get a map of the sliders and accurately reproduce her on the PC, where I can get actual screenshots. But for now, here she is.

I play Femshep because of the VA, period. I played through first with a male shep (Not the default one, found him... no) and was unimpressed, but I often play female chars as well and wanted to see what different lines might be etc and was blown away with Jen's voice acting. I've played through male a couple more times, just to set up relationships to see how they carry over to ME 3 but on the whole Femshep to me is just a more complete character than Sheploo.

In essence, she's just more fun. I also get a greater kick out of strong female leads than male leads just because it's overdone.

Still on the relating to my characters matter, I'm obviously not a galactic hero space marine myself so I can't really perfectly relate to any shep regardless of gender. I can still relate to all my characters, although I don't play them how I would do things all the time. It's just a bit easier to relate to male characters being a male myself. I can't really say objectively how much difference that makes, as I don't generally like playing brosheps nearly as much as femshep.

I don't drool over Hrist, randomly or otherwise. Do I think she's attractive? Of course I do.

I don't see her as a female version of me though. Infact when I created Hrist, she had no personality or backstory at all. She was literally an avatar. She only got a personality and her own history once I started reading this very thread, and once she had that I was even more attached to her. There are very few game characters that I actually care about, but Hrist is right at the top of that list, by a long way.

I've said this in previous posts, but I wasn't used to the whole create your own character set-up that you get with western RPG's when I first played Mass Effect. I had always played JRPG's where the characters are mostly pre defined. To have to actually think about a characters personality and backstory was completely foreign to me.

I guess that's testiment to just how good a character femshep is, from my point of view anyway. I was hooked on her from purely an in game perspective. Jennifer Hale's voice work probably had a lot to do with it as well. Adding in all those personal touches just makes her even better.

There are plenty of games with your standard male lead, and while some are very good characters, the vast majority are as bland as cardboard. There are very few games with a female lead, even less so with a character like femshep and she's just so much more interesting even though she has exactly the same lines as a male Shepard.

Oh and happy 'born in 143 years' day, femsheps. :wizard:

Guess I'm creepy, since I pretty much make decisions with Holly as I would in that situation. Don't really care what others think about that, though. Even so, she's become her own person. I have plenty other characters I roleplay in a very specific way, like Moira. Anyway, I think it's fine if you enjoy yourself and have a good time playing the game.

FemShep's birthday, woo!  ^_^

No matter what character, I usually don't make choices that are completely different to what I would make. It just happens to be that way in my case.

Stop quoting me, lol!  Not you specifically Akari. Sorries.  I just quoted it.  Blast.

By 'drooling over' I didn't mean I'm literally sitting at my PC with a dribble cup.  Just that I find my male PC attractive.  It was a poor choice of words.  Curse you, interwebs.

Oh no, I'm totally creepy.  Or I was (good thing that's not news to me, or I might be saddened.)  My first time playing as FemShep I just played as myself (you know, just awesomer.  ha, I just typod that awesomeer--bad pun and antithetical to this thread to boot.)

Ramblings aside, I'm in need of a new femshep art project.  Any scene anyone would be interested in seeing, femshep related?  This could include any femshep, multiple femsheps, or other squaddies.  If I don't get anything good from you guys, I'm going to have to go to the Mass Effect plot generator, last time I did that I got "Mordin headbutts Khalisah al-Jilani."  Which might be awesome in itself.  Sadly, it's not femshep related.

Hmm. I think you should do a before and after piece with Teagan. You did that awesome streetkid pic of her - should match it up with one of her being her contemporary graceful self. How far we've come and all that :)

@ELE

Well, you got Holly's head morph. Go to town! XD I could send you others, if you want to play with those as well. Other than that I don't have any ideas. My brain is fried with working on my next video and another side project that I can't talk about...

Oooooo.

And more Teagan is always good.  ^_^
