ya know, I'm torn on the marketing question.

jade empire featured Wu the lotus blossom, right? and i thought she was just some LI babe when i first saw the marketing. that tells me that a) i'm totally biased by societal expectations that i would assume that she's an NPC and not the PC by just looking at her and B) they TOTALLY over sexualized her appearance on the box. she does NOT look like the hero of that story.

oddly enough, jade empire is the only game ever where i preferred playing as a male PC. never happened before, hasn't happened since.

If they were to put a female as the face of their marketing, I worry that a) people would get confused and not realize it as a PC - that they'd just assume the woman HAD to be an NPC because that's they way it's always been. not a good excuse, but putting it out there. and B) the temptation to oversexualize said femPC would be overwhelming. imo, part of why femshep works so well is that she's this hidden gem that only a few people know about.

what i'd most want with the marketing is that yes, they'd have their "face" and it would likely be a guy. i can deal with that. i would like to have them release screenies of the female, esp. of her armor, about the same time the male stuff comes out. i mean, really, if you're selling me a DLC of armor and i don't know how it's going to look on femshep, i'm not going to buy it. for me, i can ignore the marketing thing, i just want the information out there so i can make decisions about the game i'm going to buy.

ooh, edit:

While I did absolutely love the Paragon line to Vasir, I must admit the Renegade line while having romanced (and stayed faithful to) Liara around was absolutely amazing. XP

@Aislinn: What I do is I just post the picture code, then after the picture shows up I edit the post and add a hyper link to it.

Re: Icnonic moments for Kallen
BDtS: Torturing Balak, he tried to leverage human lives against his to the butcher of Torfan, who'd already lsot some fighting Batarians, she also (headcanon) taunted him about Torfan and called him all sorts of names men hate being called (fairy, plushie, soft, B*tch, P*ssy, numb nuts, etc.) Even though she didn't live on mindoir she never forgave tha batarians for that and probably never will. which birngs me to....

Arrival: People seem to think they can wager lives against Kallen, so when Kenson pulled the dentonator, I joke that Kallen does the interrupt before I pulled the trigger on my Xbox controller, but really the interrupt wasn't on the screen for ore than a second before I pulled it. Also she matched condescending dialouge with Harbinger:

H:"blah blah blah you are nothing"
K: *harbinger voice* "You hide behind Agents while I just step on them, If you were so powerful we'd be having this conversation in person and my fist would be through your hull. *raises fist* You know you'll feel this!"

You mean the "Asari should stick to being strippers" line? Yes it's amazing, even if you weren't faithful. hell I like the renegade action.

I do! Haha I like to imagine them bickering about it after the fact and Renegade FemShep being a charming smartass about it. When I first played through LotSB I was on my Paragon FemShep and when the Paragon line was given I thought "That was amazing!" then when it came time to do it on my Renegade FemShep (I'm wicked lazy by the way and keep all of my FemSheps as Jane because 1)That's a nickname of mine and 2)I like to think it's all alternate timelines to the same Shep and what would happen if things were different...) I was wondering how they were going to top the Paragon line, then the whole "You should just be strippers" happened and I died of laughter when Liara kind of glares at Shep. :P

This. I think I thought for about a split second, but the woman had just proven herself completely beyond negotiations at that point.

Kyrie didn't think at all. BOOM!

I did the same with Lia. So glad I'm not alone. I mean she's a paragon but she's not gonna let someone who's indoctrinated just do what they want. Kenson was given plenty of warning.

In my one play through (using the original non-canon Artemis), I/she also didn't hesitate. If there was any reasoning going on in her head, it was "(Crazy indoctrinated b!t*h) + (detonator in hand) = pull trigger NOW!". For me, outside the game, I have to admit it may have been "oh, flashy, click the button fast!" (all because of having to catch those quick paragon interrupts in LotSB), and only after was I like "wait, I probably didn't need to do that."
:innocent:

Only later did I find out it made no difference. ^_^

FemShep needs better animations, reduced clipping, no bugs, and to be worked on as much as her male counterpart is.  To see proof that she needs more time dedicated to her character model read the first post of this thread. Jesse Houston stated to FemShep players that "Our goal has and will continue to be to ensure that female and male Shepard have a truly equitable experience and that no one group of people feel left out."

Definitely a point that needs to be fixed for ME3
and the only one that belongs in this thread :)

So, Artemis was hanging out in Flux with Garrus and Wrex investigating a certain signal when they came across this:

http://cloud.steampo...44CE8BCCA4C7CC/

In 8 or so play throughs I have never once noticed the animation for people winning at Quasar! This Salarian may be my new favorite random person.
B)

(sorry for the semi-off-topic aside, but even Artemis was impressed)
(also, I love the fact that I'm still discovering things that are new to me, even after so many play-throughs)
(I only just discovered the 4th body, who isn't an engineer, out and about in BDtS)

So I've gotten started in on sorting through all the stuff for the femshep vid. Thanks to everyone who sent me stuff and thanks for the encouragement generally. Wow, this is going to take me a while. But thanks to folks and ELE's help re: gibbed, I am on my way.

Question:

Are there any femshep lines and/or moments that strike you as quite iconic? That is, not just your femshep, per se, but lines that really sum up for you who femshep is and what she's about?

I frapsed a few of my favorites, but I want to hear what other folks think.

For UJ there are two major lines that define her character.  The first is bullrushing the reporter on the Citadel.

"The Alliance lost eight cruisers during the battle: Shenyang. Emden. Jakarta. Cairo. Seoul. Cape Town. Warsaw. Madrid. And yes, I remember them all. Everyone in the 5th Fleet is a damn hero. The Alliance owes them all medals. The Council owes them a lot more than that. And so do you."

The second line is from LotSB.

You're forgetting one thing, Vasir. I'm a Spectre too.

If UJ thinks she can talk her way out of a situation, she will, but if not she'll act w/out hesitation.  Be polite, be diplomatic and have a plan to kill everyone you meet.  That's not to say that it doesn't take its toll as it does.

A little piece from a new GI interview.

For both Mass Effect and Dragon Age, the marketing has focused on
male protagonists. Since players can create both male and female
characters, why isn’t the female side represented?

Muzyka:
That’s a great question. One of the things we really embrace in our
games is diversity and enabling people to take on different roles so,
obviously, we have strong female leads. We have amazing voice acting
talent for both the male and the female roles.

That said, for the
marketing face we have to make a choice. And it’s a tough choice to
pick an iconic face -- the face of the brand. You have to pick an iconic
representation for the brand and it comes down to the marketing team’s
intuition.*
It’s not easy because we know a lot of the fans enjoy playing
the female lead so we always make sure it’s just as high quality as the
male lead for the main characters in our games.**

* yeah, the marketing team's money intuition.  Lots of bucks is what stimulate the intuition. If not you also would have made a FemShep image for marketing or otherwise neutral marketing. They leave reality, quality for money. Improper by part of bioware.

** that also refers to: the boobs size doesn't increase magically as Ashley's does and other possible projects about better the hetero-man sight.
And how he avoids replying to the question... because he finally doesnt give any info we dont already know <_<

Thanks for post the info, @ f1r3.

Edit: srry, but really I don't understand the new title of the thread

Why does everyone seem to go for the Paragon line in that situation?  I find the Renegade response to actually be more powerful.  Especially at the end where she says, "They deserve better than you," and her voice just drips with scorn for Al-Jilani.  Hale's delivery on that line just blows dudeShep away.

There was an interesting discussion in the offtopic section about female gamers. The discussion became interesting when it started about marketing. Even though for the majority of gamers it wouldn't matter whether the protagonist is male/female, marketing is still being focussed on (white, heterosexual) males. Marketing keeps enforcing (not just in game marketing) conservative stereotype roles.

Yeah, I finally decided to talk to Jilani last week (had been avoiding her in prev. playthroughs because I thought no good could come of it), and the Renegade line was awesome!

Damn, those are nice. Especially the second pic. Charge, right? I need to take more combat pics myself, but I get carried away and forget amidst all the action.

One tip. I assume your using the "ToggleHUD" command to get rid of the GUI. Use "Show Scaleform" instead as it gets rid of the power hotkey bar also.
