yeah, ryn. Or Bioware marketing team’s intuition is not very fine or It seems how if they budge, it damages their company's pride. Because the claims are reaching them everywhere, and not only FemSheperds.rynluna wrote...
I don't think they even needed to make an iconic female character to market from the beginning. Though it would be nice and I'd like to see it one day. Chud and the doctors always talk about choices and decisions in their interviews. It would have been nice to see this shown through marketing. That you can play as either female or male, the different backgrounds, and different ethnicities...etc. Instead we are only shown one side of the story in marketing and that's their White male model that every young boy wants to grow up and be.
Considering they have spent a good amount of time and money making FemShep available for three games now, wouldn't it make sense to at least show her in some advertisements or the covers(be it an alt cover or the back, which only happened in ME1) so that she is actually known to exist? I hear stories every couple of weeks about people who weren't thrilled about playing the game but when they finally saw FemShep, it changed everything. I have friends who don't understand what I see in this game because advertising makes it look like something they've become bored with.
BioWare didn't take any risks by choosing to not show FemShep. I realize they are a business and need to make money and a risk is something they don't think is worth. However, I honestly believe that they are not gaining any potential customers by not showing some FemShep in advertising.

Liara isn't the jealous type, is she?
Off-Topic aside: will anyone else's Shepard be going MIA for a few hours or days soon? Apparently, Joker has found some old game called Portal 2 out there on the extranet. EDI's working on decoding the files and expects them to be ready in about 2 hours, barring "unforseen consequences". Apparently Joker will need a partner for co-op, and EDI has elected to take the role of GladOS, so she's out.
:innocent:
If any of you talented folks would like to photoshop femShep with some Portal technology, that would be wicked awesome!

Indeed. They took the risk, by going a different direction with Dragon Age 2. I wonder why they can't do the same in the marketing department. Of course, the Dragon Age team is different from that of Mass Effect, but it would still be great to see them take some more risk every once in a while.rynluna wrote...

The top two are Kate's cannon look, the longer hair for ME1 and the short hair for ME2 with the others being things I've tried out at various point in time.
Okay, completely off topic of what's going on, but I found this and love it. It makes me happy to know that i'm not the only person who went round and round and round on hairstyles for femshep.

I, too, finally just latched onto one and thought, "eh, close enough." I like the "smoother" styles of the cute and the classy, but something about the default hair evoked what i wanted. for me, it's more about suggesting the character, rather than saying "this is the hair she has." the texture of the default and that messy, slightly out-grown bob just worked for me. somehow, i have this notion that biotics must need haircuts constantly because of the high metabolism.
but again, i really want more short cuts for me3. the only short ones being the buzz cut and the slightly curly "afro" one is silly.

More short cuts would be nice. If they could do a pulled back style that looks less "severe" I'd be happy.
Really don't get me started on hair. It's my biggest roadblock to character creation, male or female. I'll have everything how I like it and then spend forever in the chargen just toggling back and forth between hairstyles.
It was rather worse with Mass Effect because the hair is so limiting.
@sagequeen, that chart makes me chuckle. my fav is black haired cyberbabe Kyrie, ready for the Halloween party she's going to as Elvira. It's like, "next...next...next...oh gods no!"
My brother's blonde highschool girlfriend dyed her hair black once. It was all kinds of wrong.
@shenzi, the short 'afro' suits Kate perfectly. I thought it looked cute on Teagan, but I picture her with long red hair, always.
Where the *bleep* is my hair, ELE08?

Oh, yes. All my Shepards are having a nostalgic Portal break. And apparently gmod works again, so I'll whip up the femshep/Portal thingy I was thinking about doing earlier. Nothing as epic one could do with photoshop, but oh well. And depending what happens in the next ten minutes it might take a while.

In the interests of promoting further experimentation, in case anyone else is interested in trying out more hairstyles for their femsheps, I found a list of codes on the GameSpot forums, reproduced here:sagequeen wrote...

To get the right texture, just change the MDL to NORM and DIFF in the appropriate place in Gibbed, following the Tutorial on MassEffect2Faces.Females:

I'm looking forward to going through them all with Athene, as her hairstyle isn't "set" yet for ME2. It may very well stay the same "custom sexy", but we'll see.
As far as "suggesting the character goes", "Sexy" definitely fits (canon) Artemis's character. I'm not sure is it fits Athene's, though, despite the fact I think it looks good. We'll see.

So make a unique Femshep, too. Pay money to use someone for her.Phaedon wrote...
I think anyone complaining about FemShep not being in the cover is making a basic mistake in their logic.
Sheploo is not another CustomShep, Female or Male. He is the only face of Shepard that Bioware paid money to use, and not using it makes absolutely no sense. I don't see why the only complaints are about a Custom FemShep not being in the cover, and not a Custom MaleShep.
Oh sorry I forgot: Femshep is a woman. It's not worth it to pay money to make a woman in a game. Only men are worth money.

(Converted the images to link so it wouldn't seem so spammy from me!)
I laughed when I saw this, too, because I go through this every time I restart my canon. The face is pretty much the same, but the hair is what I agonize over. For ME1, I pretended that her hair was naturally black, but bleached blonde because you could see the "roots" in the hairstyle. Of course, that was gone in ME2 so I had to think long and hard about whether or not Miranda would return her to her natural black hair color or if an engineer would have messed up and made it blonde. I tried both colors, went back and forth, and ultimately told myself, screw it, keep the blonde as you know her and use the black hair version for a different romance. OKAY! =p
