femshep question! what is one thing your Femshep will fangirl over, no matter how embarrassing?
My Shepard is obsessed with classic science fiction, especially from the 50s and 60s. That's why she jokes with Kaidan and Ashley about aliens judging humanity from our old vids; Ash, of course, responds with a quip about a tinfoil miniskirt. In general, Jane likes old TV and movies. Despite a tendency to prefer SF, her favorite movie is
Roman Holiday, which she picked up in an Extranet pack of uncolorized Black and White classics. She downloaded the pack for "the Blob," but fell in love with Peck and Hepburn.
This lead to her developing a bit of a fondness for the cheesy Science Fiction romantic comedies of the early 2150s. For that 8 years of glorious, unbridled exploration, Humanity's whimsical fascination with the possibilities of space had a new renaissance. After the first contact war, everything went back to the old "scary aliens invade earth" format, which was somehow less fun than it had been two centuries earlier, when we didn't know any better.
(Not that everything she found was wholesome: at age 12 she was searching for "Cult classic science fiction 19**" on the extranet, and pulled up a vid of the Rocky Horror Picture show. Assuming it was just another monster movie, she thought it was funny when everyone started singing, and just got increasingly scandalized as things went on. She watched the last half of the movie with her hands clapped tight over her mouth, and one eye on the door, hoping she didn't get caught. It left her feeling vaguely sheepish for weeks.)
Given all this fascination with old science fiction, her Senior paper in secondary school was entitled:
"This Actually Went Pretty Well, Considering: a History of First Contact in Human Cinema."
