Why exactly do you guys use makeup on your femsheps?

I always use some eyeshadow on them, because it looks horrible without any. I think Adria is my only femshep who has some sort of blush, but none of them use lipstick.

I need to finish my Adria playthrough, as I'm itching to start another Vanguard run. Hi, my namy is Inglu and I'm an addict. I was initially going to go with broshep, but spending (too) much time on this thread has changed my mind. I think my playing bro- and femsheps evenly times are over. I already have a general idea for the looks of the femshep. Still can't get myself to use the same face multiple times.

Top Adria stare.

well...

1) for myself:

i don't, really. part of that is keeping with my idea of my femshep's personality, the other part is that pale blondes can easily look overpowered by makeup. she has on no real "lipstick" and when pale blondes run around, their cheeks get pink. so that's not blush, that's just her.

as for why she has on any eyemakeup at all, if you choose the "off" option, femshep still has BLACK eyelashes. this looks weird on a blonde, even more so than simply giving her the *slight* eye makeup of the default shep (which is essentially a smudged eye pencil and mascara - it actually looks a little to me like makeup that one put on in the morning and it got smudgy because of sweat or something.)

so for me, she's wearing no makeup except what was necessary to make her look not weird.

2) for others:

why not? there's nothing saying that a kick-ass woman couldn't be addicted to deep, deep eyeliner. in fact, many of the martial artists i know who are women wear eyeliner - when sparring, no less.

waterproof, of course.

A question: When you're considering the characters of your Shepards, do you find that you're planning them out exactly so, or do your femsheps occasionally surprise you by turning out with quirks or personality traits that you didn't originally envisage for them, or not fitting in with what you thought they were like? I'm interested to hear other people's experiences!

This has happened to me several times.  I'll plan out a Shep, but they tend to evolve on their own.  It really surprises me at times.  This happened the most with my FemShep, Moira.  She turned into a very complex and interesting character.

Question back (and much less deep): In making your character's look, was there any part of her appearance where you thought: YES! that's perfect! and was there another where you were like, "meh....i guess that's the best i can do for that."

With Holly, it was getting her chin, jawline and nose correct.  I wanted her features to be natural, yet striking.  There is a little bit of my own face in hers, so it helped with the design.  I believe the moment when I knew I was happy was when I discovered the right eyes.

As for makeup, I try to keep it subtle.  I've done a little custom makeup with gibbed, which is nice.  I imagine Holly wearing just a bit of liner and that's it.  She's not big on makeup.

Hey femshep thread! Pimping my femshep vid here though I made a thread in the general CnC forum

I've attempted to capture Mass Effect 2 in all it's glory, experienced through the eyes of a Vanguard reneparagade Femshep.

Like Marianna, the galaxy might not enjoy it, but because of Shepard, they'll live.

I plan to make more videos in the future, so any advice/criticism/feedback is super appreciated!

Thank you for watching ../../../images/forum/emoticons/happy.png

I did it because it was suggested by a video I watched to help me in making a decent looking femshep (I don't really care for the default face, though I use default sheploo all the time).

After playing around with different settings, I decided I preferred darker eye shadow and a light blush on the cheek. Also the video I watched was careful to use makeup options in ME1 that would match ME2's makeup, which has a few extra options that can cause a femshep's makeup to change upon import.

While I think too much makeup can detract from normal beauty, a subtle amount can certainly enhance it. Lighting helps too, but there's not much we can do about that in these games, other than to be selective in where we take screenshots.

I enjoyed the video! :D

As for feedback, all I can say is it was sometimes hard to hear Shepard talk over the first song. Enjoyed the music you selected though.

To answer Sage's question,

Jennifer went through the CC 3 times, once was the very first time I played ME, and imported her to ME2 and finished the game. But the cheek bones and the gaunt were not right, so I went back and replayed ME, remaking her but editing what I thought was wrong. Because of the lighting of the CC I gave her greenish/grey eyes even thought I wanted to go for really pale, piercing blue. Anyway, that was back when she was an infiltrator. Then I decided to try some space magic, so I went back, changed her hair from the Chakwas hair to the high bun she currently has. And fixed her eye color, but again, the eye color wasn't the one I wanted, and the cheek gaunt made her look like a starved child, so in ME2, my last playthrough, I remade her using the ME2 CC, and changed the lip size a bit, and the eye color and voila!(Oh snap, that's four times) Here she is:

As for makeup, Jen only uses eyeliner and the transparent gloss.

I actually have a makeup-less Femshep that I like most of the time, the problem is that she looks washed-out on certain planets, especially Tuchanka. She also has the palest skin tone, I think. She's an ME1 import so I can't fix her easily, so right now I am just living with it. I've tried to reproduce her, but there's something I really like about her eyes that I just can't get right in the ME2 creator. It's depressing.

Have you tried taking a screenshot of her and having that open next to your ME2 window while you're in the CC?

I have, but I haen't put the time into it I really need to. Like I'll try for ten minutes or so and then get frustrated. It's only recently that someone said that everything but makeup options should be the same between the two creators. Before I read that, I thought it was possible that there was... some aspect of her that wasn't included in the new creator.

I should give her a proper try again someday, especially with all the great support and tips I've learned in this thread. Also, considering that I now officially consider FemShep to be my favorite female video game character ever.

People yell at me for that... but she is just so awesome. People seem to think that, just because we can make choices, the choices we make don't reflect a coherent character. And then I sigh, and come back here to look at all the pretty pictures. I'll have to post my Jane over here sometime, all my screenshots are on my other computer.

Yes, all of them things I can't control :D I mean things like hazel eyes or the hairstyle.

Everything else! I tend to just push the sliders to the extreme whenever it doesn't make her look flat out monstrous. Not really careful, I. For instance my Shep's eyes are at the lowest and most wide apart possible position, as well as maximum eye depth. She gets maximum width for her cheeks and the cheekbones can't be more pronounced. Her nose is as long as possible. She has the thickest neck, too.

*Sigh*  Aislinn, your lady puts mine to shame.  I just can't quite a natural-looking face, no matter how long I spend in the CC.  She's amazing.  It is a toss up between Holly & Teagan as to who's better-looking.. . (Though I'm sure that sort of remark'll earn me a slap from someone somewhere...)

Noah's Glare of Doom will appear shortly. :o

I mean, really. Why don't you just throw a golden apple with 'Kallisti' inscribed upon it into the topic?! ;)

Everyone here thinks FemShep is an amazingly awesome videogame character. I wonder (and donning my cyber-asbestos garments just in case), if some of her appeal is from the counter-marketing aspect, in that we like her because Bioware/EA marketing has given little thought to her?

Basically, that part of her appeal is from feeling like we're resisting the Evil Overlords of Marketing.

Wait! That could be the next title FemShep: Fighting the Evil Overlords of Marketing!

Not entirely, FemShep bucks more than just EA and BioWare's cynical marketing department she is a style of character that women historically don't get to play in media. The role of the charismatic military commander is one that is overwhelmingly dominated by male characters even in fictional works. It could be 200 years in the future and 9.9 times out of 10 the hero is a male stereotype. It's rare to both see a woman in that typically male position and her gender not be a primary trait of the character. That was why, for me atleast, the most interesting characters in the Battlestar Galactica reboot wasn't Cmdr. Adama or Col. Tigh but Starbuck and Admiral Cain. It made them very intersting because they were so unique in Western media, even more so because their gender did not define them as characters. So it's more that we're bucking Hollywood and Network TV in addition to EA's short sighted marketing teams by saying that our hero isn't just another stereotypical white male hero. To us the hero of Mass Effect has always been and always will be tough, tenacious and female.

No need for fire resistance here. Part of my draw to femshep is Jennifer Hale's voice. She first impressed me in Baldur's Gate (Dynaheir) and Baldur's Gate II (Mazzy Fentan) years ago.

My Shepards stay on their track, nothing seems able to break their believes. On the other hand, I can see sometimes in the future, one of my Shepard will eventually not strong enough to stand against matters she encounter, but that will be a story to be written later on.

My first Shepard was base on my face and it failed (I want more options in CC, Bioware!), after that failure, I will first choose one part of the face (eye, nose, mouth). Once that is done, I will try to make other parts to fit in the it. Even sometimes I got what Sage said "YES! that's perfect!" moment, it turns out I need to go back to CC for alittle fine tuning, usually because the face contour may look weird in some particular angles.

makeup question

Like most of Femshep, eyelinders are must in order to make her eyes sharp. About the blush, I will choose mostly the lightest color with the clear lip gloss. ;)

Because it was reasonable. I already bored forumites to death explaining why, so, short version:
Eyes without eyeliner look weird IMO in game (especially that mascara stays on)and suits only some FemSheps, especially those darkskinned.
I didn't liked the "clean" lips colour on my pale Shep, they were too dark, so I slapped lipstick and pretended it's not there. As we got access to Gibbed, I was playing with vectors and toned the makeup down a bit, it was nice, but not much different from what I wanted to originally achieve with given tools.

At first I didn't liked the idea of FemShep in makeup, but my mind changed in the meantime, as Sage says, why not?
So, it stays on.

aaah, yes, makeup questions! when I was creating my canon femshep - Leah, I wanted her to look as close to my own face as I could manage, and I almost never wear makeup. plus I had this feeling that femshep, being a soldier would be concerned with other things. it took me a while to get it just right (and she still doesn't look exactly like me, but considering that she ended up evolving into her own personality, its all good) and she's still wearing some makeup, since as the others already mentioned - eyes look weird without eyeliner (and I used very pale blush, to imitate a natural cheek blush)

Image IPB

Image IPB

with the rest of my femsheps - I had different ideas and intentions for them so they are wearing lipsticks, that fit their personalities. cannot bring myself to go with deeper blush colors or eyeshadows :/

as for personality changes, well - after Leah run away from me and decided to be her own person, i attempted to plan out my shepards. I'd have a general idea of whom they are going to end up with romance wise, what alignment they were going to be, which major choices they would make, but each and every one of them would evolve past my original intentions and in case of Jade - she changed drastically from what she was like in ME1 (from somewhat cautious and self doubting paragon, to very angry and reckless renegon - curse you, Horizon) and completely refused to follow my original plans for her, for ME2 (with exception of ending up with Jacob).

Amelia went through the CC twice.  The first time she turned out really well, almost perfect.  I was quite suprised. I did spent a few hours in there though.  But after playing a couple of hours on a test I wanted to change her eye depth to stop her eye lashes molding into her skin too much. Additionally cheek gaunt and width were a tiny bit off.

These were minor fiddles. Moving the sliders one or two places at most.  Amazing how knit picky you can get! :) Once they were done I left her how she was.  Cant see a single thing I want to change.  Which is so unlike me!

Hours? Took me about 15 minutes. =]
