Still sounds like an exaggeration to me.
You'll know you can create a female character in Mass Effect as soon as you start a new game.
Easter eggs are things that are hidden.

That's the point. You don't know about it until you play the game. Therefore it's somewhat hidden to those who haven't played yet. It's just like any other easter egg. You don't know about it until you come across it in the game.

"...I made a female Shepard and bam, it all clicked into place. This is how you’re supposed to play this game. Jennifer Hale’s delivery was visceral and passionate. She’s not the most consistent in her delivery, but overall, she made the experience even better, and it was damn good to start. Now, that’s just my own personal tastes. There is never a right way or wrong way to play a game.... "
Two Cents: To be perfectly honest, I don't think calling female Shep an Easter Egg (the "best" in gaming, or otherwise) is the right way to promote her presence. The title of the thread makes it sound like it has low self-esteem.

"My thread is called *what*?"

Of course it's an exaggeration.
You're taking the thread title way too literally
And the point is that you shouldn't need to buy the game first in order to know you can create female character

I've probably mentioned at some point before that I think a two-step approach would be ideal: Make the feature more prominent on the back of the box and the website so that anyone looking for more information on the game could see that customization is a feature, and sell alternative box art in the EA/BioWare store the same way they offer lithos and clothing. But I do get why the commercials, standard box art, and website all have ShepLoo.
Also, as someone who was both a jock and geek in high school, I'm amused by that particular aspect of DJ's target audience rant. In my experience the two groups aren't all that different than they'd each prefer to believe, but that's another topic entirely.

My use of the word "jock" is to be referenced to the 1980s movie stereotype. That is all.

So the cynical "target audience" is a fictional group that doesn't exist? Perhaps we ought to give marketing more credit than that, they are professionals you know.

Perhaps if it was a witty exaggeration it wouldn't create such controversy. I personally don't post here often because I find the thread title to be a tongue-in-cheek way of saying "Make FemShep equal to ManShep in marketting or else!" and that just seems a bit childish and full of agenda-pushing. It's one thing to want equal treatment, it's another to be overly confrontational about it. And this is from a female gamer who loves playing FemShep. Sometimes people just want to post without getting wrapped up into heated topics or worry of being labelled a certain way.

You go by what you know *shrug* What I've seen of the "core" COD audience does really lend itself quite well to that 80s jock stereotype.

You're reading an awful lot into it. You really got all that from just a few words? There are no demands being made in this thread and there never has been to the best of my knowledge. This thread has always been light-hearted and a fun environment to be in. When the topic title was changed, I never once thought that the goal of the thread had changed with it.
I suppose we all look at things differently but maybe it's best we don't look for agendas that aren't there?

I have a feeling a lot of people posting in here do it because they enjoy femShep and are having fun. I know I don't worry about getting into a debate or being labelled a certain way.
and on that note I will do what I like to do best - post pictures of my femSheps and have fun.
Today I will go with the puzzled look.

Neither ME1 or ME2 got the balance right, and I honestly don't think ME3 will either. Will it create a sphere that both groups can enjoy? Possibly, but I don't think it's possible to create any hybrid design that both groups will appreciate 100%.
Of course just as much of this stems from the word-choice used by marketing and these executives. Saying "we want CoD's audience" is probably not going to calm the fears of people who fear that their conclusion is going to be lessened by focusing (too much?) on action.
But I digress - my point is that there's a line to this. Custom Sheps, male or female don't work if you just want to create a singular image that causes people to blind-buy, like they do CoD, Madden or Halo games. That's why we're stuck on Sheploo, and I just hope that this time, Marketing realizes that fans of femShep would like to see pre-order DLC or other armor designs on their preferred gender before launch.

I don't how do you get from "best ester egg in gaming" to Make FemShep equal to ManShep in marketting or else!". I really don't.
As for the "just posting" stuff, I think few threads are as civil, friendly and polite like this one. The label "femsheps fans are butthurt vocal minority" is older than this thread so I really don't care.
Many post here just for fun.

DUI? Shepard? Never.
ETA: @Leonia: I don't think it's so much that new posters aren't welcome, it's just that this thread moves so quickly and there's often multiple conversations going on at once that it's easy to miss a new post. I can understand you feeling that way. Trying to edge your way into a group of close-knit people isn't the easiest thing to do. Everyone is friendly here though and are never going to turn away a FemShep player.

I don't know, I have other issues (namely, not feeling welcomed if you're not already a regular here, though this was over a few months ago when I tried to be active here), but why can't the title just be something generic like "The FemShep Thread"? But there it is, for what it's worth. Maybe I'm the only one who feels that way about it.
I know that the topic name before this one "She exists, no matter what Marketing says!" was a direct response to Jesse Houston and other BioWare higher-ups tripping over their tongues with saying that a woman can't be iconic to a franchise and so on. I always took it as tongue-in-cheek, and I'm sorry if it rubbed you the wrong way but I've never felt unwelcome in here in spite of not being the most active person around.
Everyone can get emotional about certain topics, hell it happened to me literally just now. I went away, came back and presented my point as reasonably as I could and just let the matter be. I for one would love to hear what you think, leo.

The fact is this thread moves so rapidly sometimes and people can get their posts quickly lost and buried. Its a little quieter now, but a couple of months ago there were easily 8-10 pages of posts a day! Especially if a new art piece appears, which happens a lot. In part that was why I created the femshep zips because posts get buried after a day or two. Even Rynluna the OP has said to me once she feels her posts get buried and/or neglected. Its a shame it happens but just because someone doesnt quote you doesnt mean it hasnt been read or acknowledged. Its just impossible to recognise every post and every femshep picture. Even if I (and several other) do try our hardest.
In regards to your comment though to say you dont post in here because you dont like the title is a bit odd. The content inside the thread is always changing and altering as stated. In fact the title is often just an amusing reflection of what the latest developments are. The marketing comment was a reflection of what Jesse Houston said on Twitter. The Easter egg comment is a parody to people who say "I never knew you could play female untill I bought it".

Anyway, I see this as a place where we can share our characters, voice our opinions and have fun. In fact, I think this is one of the most civil and polite threads I've ever seen on an internet forum, period. Let's keep it that way, okay? I'm not sure how such negative impressions would be drawn from the thread title. It's a silly joke, which I believe has some basis.
Anyway, Leonia, I'm sorry you feel that way. This thread moves very fast and it's hard for people to keep up. You just have to stick around and make yourself visible, as it's hard to acknowledge every post. Things have slowed down a bit as of late, with FemShep.com and the fact people are most likely occupying their time with other things till ME3. I also don't really understand where you're drawing these conclusions from, as I've never (to my knowledge) observed said behavior here in this thread.
Honestly, if it was so bad, I wouldn't be here.
