at this point, the only romance i could really see myself making a femshep for is thane, and that's entirely aislinn's fault for lending me holly's romance save. i was quite charmed (though kyrie will forever be kaidan-loyal).

I don't know what you mean.  :innocent:

Actually, it makes me very happy that you enjoyed their romance.  Which is why I support Thane and only ask that people give it a try.  A few other people have tried it out, due to my incessant fangirling, and enjoyed it.

;)

What totally surprised me about the Thane romance is how much Thane is a match for Shepard. He's really this person who has seen a lot, done a lot, and in that, it seems right that he and Shepard would find a lot in common. The romance scene was just really powerful - very tender and sexy and it felt like they really connected. It's a complete travesty that the lines/missions,etc leading up to it are so unbalanced and throw-away. I would never have guessed that THAT romance scene was lurking at the end of prompts like "I want you, Thane."

It's truly a pity that in the bohemoth of missions that is ME2, the human, interpersonal moments just got buried. The more I poke around in the game, the more I find those moments, but they're really hard to come by. In ME1, getting to know your crew was something that just happened as you were stuck in elevators or debriefing missions or on your way to see the requisitions officer. In ME2, it was like they didn't want to bore the "shooter-only please" crowd and they self-conciously hid the tender moments in the cargo bay or something. So sad.

However, I'm happy that ME3 sounds like it will hopefully be a little more balanced out.

No, not her personality at all.  Maddy is very self concious of what others think of her...that's why she doesn't even really talk about herself that much...dosen't want to come off that way.

Her older brother Wesley was a bit "Brash" in that regard, but was still the nicest guy you would ever meet. In the end both worked against him and eventually aided in his death during the "First Contact" war in 2157 where he risked his life against impossible odds to save two of his wounded teammates, after disobeying the orders of his commanding officer and went back alone without support. He then refused medical attention after being hit with enemy fire in favor of helping his teammates first , as only two could be lifted out at a time.

By the time the evac team returned for him, Wes was died.

This made a big impression on her as a child.

Why do people call your FemShep, well, Shepard?

I have an overly elaborate rationale for why my canon male Shep goes by his last name, but that isn't pertinent here, for obvious reasons.;)

For Cara, making people call her "Shepard" gives her a measure of control over her interactions with other people. Even the name "Cara" is just a nickname, designed to guard the knowledge of her identity from people she doesn't trust, but her surname is the first line of that defense, keeping people from knowing her too well.

@ADL: Cara, a diva? No. A control-freak, yes...

Anyway, in my pre-coffee haze I may have actually hit on an interesting question, so here goes:

Why do people call your FemShep, well, Shepard?

Is it out of military necessity, and she actually prefers another name with friends and family?
Has she just sort of gotten used to being called Shepard?
Is it because she has an embarrassing first name? Why's it embarrassing to her?

She will never disagree to being called Shepard, Shep or Commander. She's gotten used to it, and really sorta doesn't like people using her fist name (other then Garrus, of coourse, or Ra Li and Ona (old friends of hers)) And no, it doesn't embarras her in the least, she quite likes it, actually. As I see, it, it's mostly going to be military necessity.  I'm Real Life military, and we just use last names.  If we've got two guys with the same last name, they get nicknames, or by what job they have. If there's two guys named Smith in Radio and one has a mustache, the guy with a mustache becomes "Musatche Smith."

I can see some getting nicknames (don't use any real names on operations), or call signs of some sort.

Renée has long been used to it, and was called "Baby Shepard" as a Spacer kid until she went away for school.

Nimue likes being called Shepard, as her first name reminds her of the urban hell she left behind.

As for Kasumi calling her "Shep," Renée finds it amusing enough, and going into the port observation deck to chat is quite relaxing.  Nimue just gets plastered down there.

It is a travesty.  And you wouldn't believe how that horribly paraphrased line has kept countless people from even trying the romance itself.  It's why jokes about that are usually a sore spot for me.  They don't really have any basis. I also find it a bit interesting that Paragon-aligned Shepard seems to be a good match for him.

And I agree that the romance scene is powerful.  It definitely relays a feeling of connection, emotion and love.  The progression of the relationship, from a cold politeness that changes into the vulnerability and trust we see in that scene. Which is why it's my favorite romance in Mass Effect.

As for finding hidden gems in ME2, this is why I make so many Shepards.  So I can explore every avenue and pick every option.  That way, I don't miss a thing.

:)

One thing that has always bugged me in ME1 that I fixed, and I don't know why it didn't occur to me until now to do it.  That patch of dark hair that always shows up with the classy hairstyle:

Some more improvements - higher resolution eye and skin textures.  Easier to see in the comparison in fullsize view.

After a lot of very long work days (has it really been a month?), I've finally gotten back to this thread and finished my ME1 playthrough with Enid Shepard, my second femshep. Still trying to work my way through a month's worth of pages here, but in the meantime here are some Enid shots:

Yeah, the thing about Virmire to me is how it's supposed to be a tropical paradise, but the threat is there. It's almost like you're in a World War II movie in the South Pacific, raiding a Japanese fortress-island, and discover something gone horribly wrong.

Oh, and FemShep on Virmire:

Soooo finally finished ME 1 with new Mara, Adept again, same choices as I picked the first time... finally got her back into ME2, and now, now I can finally post a screenshot of her new look. I like it, I wasn't sure at first but it's growing on me. I am just SO glad I saved Cat's face code on that thread... Anyways... Enjoy! Now to go get that hi-res armor file working...

Image IPB

Also to add answers to the questions: Mara is not vain, she is far from it. She's actually the most reserved of my femsheps, Cathryne however, I wouldn't call her vain so much as 'in your face'. It's not that she tries to put her best foot forwards or make herself look her best she just naturally is a beautiful woman and she uses it like any other weapon in her arsenal. It's part of why she got so pissy with Miranda so much. Get over yourself woman... sheesh.

Of course, Cathryne is(was :( ) my vanguard who did all 5 waves in Arrival and solo'd the colossus on Haestrom by launching herself across the field to shotgun duel the colossus, all on insanity so... yeah :)

I am going to enjoy replaying Cathryne again at least.

I am beyond pleased to finally have that stupid patch of black hair gone.  It's not too obvious from the screenshots but I converted this realistic eye texture to ME1 and it looks really amazing in-game.

Say what now?:whistle::D

Seriously tho, no. Jennifer is the epitome of professionalism. The only break in that, happened after her reserruction (she was a full paragon in ME1 not a bit of renegade in her. But in ME2 she has less than one bar of renegade) It was hard to stay absolutely, perfectly, ridiculously cool and normal...or as her normal self. The weight of actually being reserructed hasn't set in yet, it won't until the reaper thing goes away, but during her time in ME2 she let out the bit of anger and -this-is-freaking-too-much-for-one-person-to-take feelings out in the form of badassery  She kicked that merc off the Dantius towers, roughed Elias Kelham up a little bit and stuck that electric thingie in the merc's back during Archangel recruitment mission. Other than that, she's her normal, kind, professional, good, paragon, iceberg-ish self.
