I'm in total agreement. CGI might look cool (sometimes), but it is also a bit annoying as it doesn't really represent the actual game that well.
The fan trailer contest is a pretty neat idea. Of course, an official trailer would have been very cool, but I guess it is quite far-fetched to expect them making one at this point in the series.

I don't see how you all make such nice looking femsheps.
Mine never turn out well, or they don't look much different from default.
I guess I'll figure it out eventually. If I ever get a femshep to look decent, she'll be a blazing redhead, pale complexion. Redheads are special you know. If mankind's champion in its darkest hour ever turns out to be a woman, she'll be a redhead.
The problem is that most of the femsheps end up looking like relatives to each other, due to the fact that they all have a similar bone structure. I FINALLY managed to make a femshep that is so good looking and well designed, that I am quite shocked.
Male Shepard is different though. I've made half a dozen really excellent mShepards so far.
Ultimately it just takes A LOT of time. We're talking about twenty minutes to an hour. Just put in the time, tweak as much as possible, iron out details you don't like, and do it again. Believe me though, it is worth it. I've never been happier with my two ME3 carry-overs.
I need to figure it out, though. I normally almost never play female characters in RPGs, and I prefer a manly Shepard. However, with the knowledge that the VS plays prominently in ME3, I need both my maleshep and a femshep so I can see both sides of the VS romance in ME3.
Yeah, I'm a content wh***.
Edit:
The reason I don't play female characters in RPGs is because I'm not one, and I don't really feel that I can connect with a character with such a different viewpoint. JMO.
Well...FemShep and MaleShep have the same view point, so I'm not sure what you're getting at
I'm a guy, and the only reason I started playing as a Fem was because I'd rather stare at a pretty woman's ass than a man's
Actually, I started playing as a FemShep just to experiment. I figured that if I could make the perfect rendition of a mShep, I could certainly do the same with a FemShep, so I tried. After several "barbies", I finally decided to really experiment. I wanted to come up with someone who looked like The Boss (MGS3). When I discovered that Shepard was only supposed to be around 30 though I abandoned trying to make an older blonde ice queen, and just went with something a bit more natural. More than anything, I wanted to make a Shepard that had almost none of default femShepard's facial similarities. Attractive, but not quite an ideal. Strong and older, but not someone who reached her mid 30s yet. The only reason I choose blue eyes (even for my black skinned male Shepard) is because the blue eyes are extremely vivid, and "pop".
It took me a very very long time, but let me assure you, as someone who still feels that Shepard is primarily a man, once I made the perfect femShep it is a great feeling. My male Shepard may fill out the armor better, have a grizzle visage, and a really powerful visual presence, but my femShepard looks like someone I would meet in real life. Someone who could be in the military, or be a mom, or even a teacher.
One of the reasons I really like f1r3storm's and ELE's Shepards, is because they just have that "real" quality to them that only comes with hours of tweaking the slightest curve of the jaw, depth of the brow, length of the nose, etc.
If you're looking for references to making good femSheps, head on over to ME2Faces.com. I got a lot of great references from there. To my dismay, I later discovered that my ideal femShepard was already made by someone else, but then I reasoned that it wasn't that big of a deal.

I dunno.
Frankly, I say give Aislinn the raw footage. She'll come up with something better than the 'official' one.

She gets a bit of the derp at times. I might've made the eyes too far apart. I hate to fight the character creator again just to change that. I wish in the worst way ME1 used face codes. I tried to make her look like a certain redhead singer I referenced earlier in this thread. She looks nothing like said singer, however, but she turned out....acceptably well.
It'll be interesting to see how she imports into ME2.
Edit:
First time I've played ME1 in a while. I'm again reminded how much I HATE the council.

You two could have a video duel. Okay, that's just a blatant attempt to get two awesome vids instead of an attempt at deciding who is the "best" video maker.

I notice quite a few fem shep pics where the N7 armor has the very smooth texture that is seen in ME1 and in the ME2 intro. I can't get it to look like that in ME2. Are those pictures from mass effect 1 or is there some sort of mod being used?

Not sure if this has been suggested, but I think it would have been neat to allow fem shep to choose 2 hair styles - one for the normandy and the other (some variation on the pony tail) for field deployment.
I like that idea. Havn't seen it suggested before. Would allow for long hair that makes sense, maybe?

Also, having a ponytail/bun being switched out for a longer hair would make sense, if only because you can say she's relaxing a bit.

re: videos - after the femshep one, i'm QUITE happy to take a break for a while. but yeah, i'd take a crack at it. only i remain in awe of what aislinn can do. and she's made a lot more of them than i have. lest we forget, she's the one who got a femshep-starring vid featured by the ME2 page on FB. so yeah, aislinn, i'm lookin' at you, here.

ELE did this with Caroline shepard using hair hacks. in the many face of femshep vid, she's the one with the beret in combat, hair down on the normandy. it is a seriously cool look that just plays GREAT in the game. (truly, caroline is such a well-designed femshep, i really felt like she should have been default jane).
anyhow, i, too, wish there was some option to do this - hair/back on mission, down on normandy. somehow, i don't see it happening, but i wish it was possible. barring that, i want more short styles.
