She's just not recongnizable enough.

Which goes back to the fact that there isnt an iconic femshep because she is so diverse.  Bioware should play on this strength as I find the alternative slightly concerning the more I think about it.

Lets be fair, if Bioware were to remodel Jane, they will have to do it high res and something akin to what they did with Sheploo.  Looking from past experiences with Bioware they potentially could use a real life model.  This is something I hope they avoid.   She is recognised for her uniqueness and individuality.  Basing her on a real life model strips some of this away.   So if they go down this route I would still hope its not based on anyone in particular.

Red head.  As I've said, they're special.

In the darkest night of humanity's worst nightmares, their lady knight and champion, their defender and avenger, the one that will protect and will execute justice against evildoers, will have a beautiful mane blazing red hair.  Because red heads are the only ones up to the job:wub:

I really should stay out of this thread.

I think my femshep didn't come out looking too good (as can be seen a few pages back, she can be a bit derpish) and I need to recreate her. I detest the thought of fighting the character creator. Again.

It did indeed have it's own custom textures.  But it was still totally unfinished and didn't even look as good as most custom femSheps.

It would be cool if they give default Jane a redesign.  I don't mind her overall features, but she needs more realistic proprotions and high resolution textures and better hair.  So pretty much everything.  I like how she's sort of average looking, but speaking from a strictly quality standpoint she looks terrible next to Sheploo (or even the squaddies like Miranda and Jack): low resolution textures, regular CC features, she could be some random NPC.

Or they could just use Caroline (thanks sage.) I'd totally be okay with that ;)

Well there we go then, didnt realise she had her own textures too!  Looks like a redesign could certainly be on the cards.  Plus I think a lot of people would be supportive or at least understanding of it based on whats already been stated.   As I said above, she would still have to be unique and certainly not based on someone who already exists in my book.

Looks like my theory is confirmed. They aren't sticking with the default. She's just not recongnizable enough.

Forgive me for sounding like a complete ingrate, but:

The real question is what color Shepard's hair is?  That's the real question?  No, my real question is how much ass they're going to let her kick in any marketing materials they make, or whether she's going to be eye candy.

My real question is why BioWare's Director of Marketing, BioWare's VP of Marketing (both of whom sport "EA" in their twitter handles, despite BioWare's co-founders claims that BW marketing is internally driven), and BioWare's Studio GM seem surprised that female Shepard is popular, despite, you know, this thread being over 1200 pages long, for example.  Despite there being a Ning community and metric butt tons of fan art and fan videos and costuming.  Despite Holly Freaking Conrad.

My question is whether their surprise will actually mean anything, or whether their "intuition" will still be to market only to the male segment of their players.

I do not give a crap what color female Shepard's hair is.  Make it green.

I feel like the Femshep trailer should get all new textures, hair etc and have a real life model like Sheploo does. That would be awwwwwesome!

I too prefer my redheaded femgineer but it's not her hair color that's goingto kick Reaper ass!

It happens. There are a few sheps in here that could be Myddine's sister. Nyoka's is her older and more hardass sister, and DJ's is her younger and prettier sister. Crash's Amelia is like their cousin.

Yes! Black hair is NOT brunette!

But then again, ciaweth has a good point.

There's the usual requisite bickering and the occasional comment about how no female could save the galaxy, but all in all it's been getting tons of positive feedback!

Maybe someone should remind them about their own "Social Network" and this one certain thread... Seriously, they have all the info needed under their nose.

They shouldn't have to be reminded.  They should be actively monitoring these forums, and other fansites, twitter mentions, and so on, on their own.  Standard procedure.  There are tools that make this easy.

Thing is with twitter is its confines. 140 characters is easy for them. Silly I know, but your totally right, this thread speaks volumes. Just looking at the replies and pages alone. Then you have the Deviant art group and a DEDICATED WEBSITE! I mean the latter states a lot and the fact its really active and constantly updated with media shows that this is a real subject and something that means a lot to people.

So are Bioware skirting around reading the forums to work with the easy restrictions of twitter now? I would say no, but I think they simply monitor the forums as it far simpler for them. Plus we cant seewhat their doing so we can only make assumptions. My suggestion is that they perhaps flick through the past 20-50 pages to get an idea of what going on and what we are looking for, if they are monitoring. Which I hope.

I think the devs watch the forums, even if they don't post here--they talk about doing so on their twitter feeds and so on. But marketing? I don't get the sense that they do, otherwise they wouldn't be surprised.. I won't speculate on the nature of the disconnect there, but it's pretty well outlined by Jesse Houston. (Note: I'm not meaning to sandbag Jesse Houston here. Just saying that it looks from what he said like devs and marketing aren't on the same page.)
