I don't know, but the way bioware announce that, it seems how if they had seen the vean of gold in FemShep, not because they really concern about her. -- only thoughts.
Of course it's all about money. Though, they are dumb for not turning more female players on to playing ME from the get-go.
This. Of course it's all about money. However, it felt like what BW had been doing was sending femshep to the corner to hide because they feared making any mention of her would LOSE them money with their 'target' audience (and I shudder to think of what, exactly, they figured that audience was composed of - well, seeing some of the anti-femshep remarks recently, i think i have an idea). this may not be true - may have just been oversight, but man, that's what it felt like much of the time.
anyhow, I think recent events have shown BW that not only would they have plenty of people who would not be offended by femshep recognition, instead they'd have a lot of happy people and perhaps new fans. and considering that respected gamers like the penny arcade guys have weighed in in favor of femshep, i think it's becoming clear that femshep is a solid marketing option, whatever the poster boy they picked originally.
and who knows, maybe it was a plan from the start: ME1 was sort of the unknown game, ME2 got marketed as the splashy shooter game, ME3 gets marketed as the 'now we're bringing it back to the RP elements' game? maybe?
eh, just thinking out loud here. but yeah, i'm fully convinced that the money is a great motivator here. but since we fangeeks with our fanart do a heck of a lot of marketing in our own way and we're doing it pro-femshep, that has to count for something.
top shep says, 'PR? what the h*ll is that?'
