FemShep Question:
What was your Shepard's crowning moment of failure, and what did she learn from it?
This is a shortened excerpt from the raw version of a story about my MainShep, i have been working on for a while now, but it fits your question perfectly:
Lilium "Stargazer". With the name her fathers voice popped into her head and with his voice, his face.
Linus Shepard. Genius gardener and farmer. Killed on Mindoir, when she was sixteen. Anna's mind went into a loop.
"Too corny?" Solveig asked with a puzzled yet loving look.
"Annaqi? Anna? Hellooo?"
"Sorry . Bad memory!"
A little shaken, she took the potted flower from Solveig and gave her the best smile she could muster.
"It's lovely! Thank you!"
"For the most beautiful flower in space..."
"I am sorry. I need to go..."
Solveig gently placed her hands on Anna's hips and rested her forehead on her back.
"Two weeks and we will go on our first leave together."
Thinking about the half dead flower in her quarters, she felt ashamed. Solveig was the first person she cared for in a long time. She just couldn't bring herself to go near that plant. She wanted to and she tried, but she froze every time she even considered looking at it.
"What are you doing, someone could see us!" Anna quickly turned away, wanting to hide her embarrassment.
Toombs came rushing into the mess hall. We need to get ready. A colony has gone silent and we're being sent to investigate.
"Where is this Akuze anyway?"
The days after she came back from that mission, Anna tried desperatly to nurse the Stargazer lily back to health,
but she had no luck, it was to late.
To others, a potted plant may not seem much, but in Anna's mind, the inabilty to bring that damn flower back to life was her biggest failure of all time.
As to what she learned from it: Never let the past prevent you from living your life in the present.
