BioWare writer, Patrick Weekes' reaction to feedback regarding his "Gender Blindness" post  here:

I REALLY like his replies. It sounds like ME3 will have the most human protagonist in the series.

I also really like how he's considering the situation with people liking/disliking the sexism found in ME towards female Shepards. Personally I liked it. It ensured that there was just enough incentive to actually play as a femShep, because her story is just a little bit different than mShep's.

A real shining moment for brutal sexism was when femShep met that pirate in ME1, and he implied that she should sleep with him to convince him to stop attacking Alliance ships (or something like that). He was blatantly rude, sexist, and most of all, realistic. The game didn't shy away from the fact that, even in 2183, women often get treated like ****. HOWEVER, the important thing about that exchange wasn't his sexism, but my femShep's response to that sexism. I didn't kill him or his mercs, because I felt that they could be useful in the [distant] future, and because I didn't feel that his snide comments were worth my femShep's ammo.

Now, granted, I am a man, and women are very...:alien:...to me most of the time, so it may be that how my femShep responded is completely a unrealistic expectation of most ass kicking females in the universe. But I don't think I am wrong. Sexism is just as much a problem to be solved for those who implement it, as it is for those who react to it.

It is realistic, but I think the other side argues that women deal with enough of that IRL and like to have an escape from it in their video game (this applies to women playing FemShep).

I can't say what I prefer...I don't feel strongly one way or the other.

Hm. I never get my Renegade score high enough to get that pirate guy. Only Elly ("ELANOS! IT'S ELANOS!!!") Haliat.

In other news, Elf's Charm/Intimidate wasn't high enough on Feros.

...also found an interesting compromise for those who can't decide between Kaidan or Garrus as a LI.

I encountered the Pirate guy once w/ Erica. She killed him pretty quickly, so they didn't have time to really chat. ;)

yeah, i think there were interesting arguments on both sides.

for me, the thing that makes a woman compelling to play as is a) if she actually looks like she can handle herself. femshep DOES. many game females do NOT.

and B) you can reply as you want to. harkin you can ignore his remarks, or threaten him. that can actually be really fun.

but if you look at other women in the ME univserse, it's a bit of a mix. ME1, with Ash, it looked like gender-blindness extended to the NPCs also. with ME2 and jack and miri's outfits, it looked like we backslid a little. their personalities didn't backslide, i realize. miri's pretty kickass. but their outfits really needed some work. it's like everyone is showing skin and in a catsuit but femshep. this needs to change, and the change is NOT to put femshep in the skin-baring outfit, too.

This is really great to see. ^_^  I love that Bioware seems to be giving female gamers (and other supporters of femshep) an ear.

Finally I made it! One more video about Jane Shepard and the Reapers. Since there is no official FemShep trailer yet and I don't know if it will be at all. So I decided to make my own using videos from ME1, ME2 and two fragments of the official ME3 trailer. What do you think about it?

Creatures from the Dark Space

I liked it. With the blue text popping out of the relay and everything it gave me this cheesy 80's sci-fi movie vibe, which was great.

Thank you both! :) It's been a long time since I made my last ME video and I thought I already have enough of them. But this music and the last ME2 DLC made me to change my mind. Glad you liked it! :)

Okay, now I actually have a question about your femSheps.

Are all of them going to be universally happy to see and/or accepting of their old crew members once they come back as squaddies in ME3?

The only squad members Hrist wouldn't want back are Zaeed and Jack. Both of them have their own agenda during ME2, and are a bit too single minded in their actions for her liking. Both have a shoot first ask questions later attitude and she wants people she can relly on at her side. Neither have done enough to make her believe that they won't do something impulsive when faced with a difficult situation, putting both her and others in danger.

As for Kaidan, she would have him back in her squad without any really problems. It wasn't particularly pleasent for her to be called a traitor by someone she considered a close friend on Horizon, but she knows she can trust him to stand by her side when things get tough.

@Sage: Great chapter. I love how you take the dialogue and scenes from the game and then add in these extra exchanges between the characters to give them a personal touch. I also don't think I've said this but, I read the entirety of Valkyrie from start to finish in one sitting last year and really enjoyed it. You're a fantastic writer.

I actually like the idea that in 2185 it's realistic for society to be mostly gender blind. That's part of sci-fi, extrapolating something and seeing what it's like. Maybe there are a few bad apples like Harkin here and there, but I don't think it's 'unrealistic' for society to be much more equitable 200 years from now.

On the flip side you could actually view Harkin and the pirate guy as unrealistic anachronisms

Seeing as so much sci-fi ends up being fictional for only so long before some intrepid people push it into reality, I vote for more gender blindness. Hey, a lady can dream. :P

Geth Incursion is easier to deal with when you have a sniper rifle.

Alas, poor Conrad. Knowledge that the Charm option is broken leads to so much trauma for him.

Tried walking up to the mine entrance instead of driving the Mako up. Immediately reloaded. You start the battle in that wide open area with no cover. Annoying.

Wow. Been out of it for awhile and I've missed a lot... Putting a few things in order...

@Aislinn Trista, that new video "Warrior Angel" is simply beautiful. Breath-takingly beautiful, to be honest. Eye-wateringly beautiful. :crying:
Well done. :wizard:

It was nice to read those blog posts from one of the writers. Good to see some of our concerns being addressed and to get some insight from those on the inside.

Hmmm... Interesting question. I can't say how Athene will feel about running into Kaidan again, because she hasn't even run into him on Horizon yet (I'm still working on Artemis's "canon" ME2 play through).

Whether or not Artemis will be happy to see Ashley will depend a lot on how ME3 handles reintroducing them. If she's just thrown back in with Shepard expecting to just go back to being a part of the squad like old times after her little performance on Horizon, then she'll need to think again. At best, at the start Artemis will be a bit cold and strictly professional with her. We'll see how it goes from there.

(Though this may change between now and ME3, or I'll have an alternate timeline Artemis, because I'm considering going back to Virmire and saving Kaidan instead... not sure yet)

Random Artemis shots with Liara, just because...

My main femshep, Leyaleen, liked a lot of her companions. She's really close to her lover Liara, tali, wrex, garrus who need her and Ashley (all ME1 survivors in fact ^^).
From the ME2 companions, those she really likes are Légion, Jack, Samara and Mordin. Légion because she feels the geth are becoming a true sentient race with real individuals despite Legion saying otherwise and she likes the way geth thinks. Jack because she's really interesting and definitely not psycopathe (even if she has serious problems).
She learned to know and like Samara and Mordin trough their loyalty missions and their reactions afterward.

The only one she really doesn't like is Thane. She respects him for his skills but that doesn't go further. She thinks Grunt is a kid especially compared to Wrex. She's still close to these people (including miranda, kasumi, zaeed, jacob and though Grunt but not Thane) because of all they went through together so she won't have any problem with them returning.

As a player, I hope Thane will be dead (but since he's a romance it won't happen) to avoid him meeting my shep in ME3. Of course she doesn't want him dead herself.

Getting close to LVL 60. I'm most likely going to switch class to engineer in ME2. I've never really played engineer class in ME2 and I've pretty much had it with with biotics for a while. I mean really, can't stand them any more!

Then I can't decide whether or not to tone down blush intensity in ME2... Since it looks (or is going to look) way more apparent than in ME1.

Meghan Shepard will be... concerned at Kaidan Alenko's return.

For good reason, I think.

FemShep is first and foremost, always a soldier. I like Bioware's treatment of her (in body armor that looks like it could take a few hits from melee as well as gunshots). I always hated the proverbial chainmail bikinis that other games put out there as adequate body armor when you play a female mercenary or soldier.

That being said, I also liked the Kasumi DLC that gave femShep a pretty dress to wear for *cough* "Date Night." And the portrayal of femShep's discomfort with wearing a dress was dead on for a chick who is used to wearing heavy armor and weighted boots. She probably felt vulnerable as all hell.

That DLC was probably the most uncomfortable the character was in any segment of the game - and I include headbutting a krogan.

^ i had a friend who was sad he'd gotten the zaeed dlc because 'this guy is such a ****' <-- his words. i said 'want a spoiler? you can hit him. you can even kill him.' his response was 'i LOVE this dlc.'

yeah, zaeed is a not-so-lovable character. but then, i see grunt as being just as violent and uncontrolled, esp. given his post-game comments about turians. the only difference is grunt looks a little more cuddly, which is a total illusion.
