As for Shepard being a copy or clone, I can't say I've thought too much about that. Though Sable's story for Jessica is certainly a very interesting take on the whole Lazarus Project. I still think Shepard is Shepard. It's still her original body, but with a few extra bits and pieces, as Jacob puts it.
I also think the killing of Shepard at the start of ME2 was just a lazy way of bringing up the character creator on Bioware's part, and there was no real thought behind it other than thinking it would be cool. Being in a coma would be cool, but coming back from the dead would be awesome, kind of thinking. But I guess we shall have to wait and see if it comes to anything in ME3.
I've thought the exact same thing about killing of Shepard at the start of ME2 was just lazy and it lacked a really good thought behind it. I will also wait and see if it comes to anything in ME3
