you said there was some way to work out how to fit Raine & Talia together somehow, how did that go ?
Can't remember what page that was on, but I remember you saying something along those lines ;)

Yeah I wrote a concept down and checked it's viability in backstory, just need to actually fanfic-tify it a bit and i'll toss it up somewhere I think.

The basics are: Earthborn Shep's parents are just MIA, which means the two backgrounds CAN fit together, ifnot needing a reason why I got seperated at birth, basicly. You would have grown up with them, I without not being aware I still have parents that are alive, nor being aware of having a sister.
Raine's got an extreme outlook on corruption, most of the time, gone bad is bad and must die, this in a way fits nicely with the events on Torfan, which gave her the nickname "the butcher". In reality though, she's not really that 'bad' herself, she's just, on some level, very un-forgiving. Your Shep is more the paragon though (judging from the pre-service history).
Also I was thinking my Shep's actions on Torfan could motivationally be supported partly by YOUR Shep's background having been the hero on Elysium. That is, if they were aware of eachothers existance by that point.
The strike on Torfan was in retaliation of the Skyllian Blitz, where your Shep put themselves at great risk, same slavers mine ended up murdering as a responce.

Edit, topshep =)

Sounds like a gritty story you got there, Ottemis.
I like it :)
And you are quite right, in ME1 I played mostly as a paragon, although there were times when I went against the paragon path.
I guess my general being reflects my style of play ;)

Well there's some nice potential for emotion there too, imagine you find out you have a sister and then learn she almost got her ass spaced by some punk-ass batarians who also tore colonies apart for sport, then YOU get the order to go and wipe out their underground base?
I'd shoot them all in a heartbeat tbh.

Edit to add: But well, this is all considered from Raine's perspective anyways, yours would be as important.
Aside from you maybe not liking implications in therms of your own implied background and that of mom and dad, if accepted this kind of BG story base would maybe even provoke responces in your Shep, specificly against my Shep's more renegade-y tendencies I would think.
So yeah, I don't want to write this without some feedback from you, ofc you could just ignore whatever I pen down for my shep BG wise, but I'd much rather it's something we both erm, agree to.

True, a little vengeance never hurt anyone... and I just love to give Elanos Haliat a whoopin' (He's the guy behind the Skyllian Blitz).

I think it would be cool if Raine heard of me after Elysium and I heard of Raine after Torfan. I guess that after Elysium Talia's Face would have been plastered all over the holo-vid screens within alliance territory.

Thinkin about this makes me feel as if Talia is stealing the spotlight in a way... after all you did for me here that doesn't seem even remotely fair :?

Yeah the situation would change based on when they got to know eachother, them looking asmuch alike, the recognition would (in my mind) be instantatious anyways.
Me recognizing you from posters and vids would prolly be much more believable then us running into eachother on /random spacestation before the events on Elysium and Torfan.
If you pref it, I'll give this some more thought in therms of my sheps motivations for the acts on Torfan.

About the spotlight, I don't know in which sense you meant it, but if they only met after torfan/elysium, Raine would have cleaned house regardless, finding out she has family with her BG is actually rather stellar for her. Silver lining on a really freaking cloudy day.

sure, go ahead, I'm anxious to see what you come up with :)
And i'm here if need any kind of help with the story ^^ (I'm not a writer, but I'll help any way I can)

The "stealing the Spotlight" was in relation to all the (presumably positive) media attention Talia got thrust upon her after the Blitz, and Raine went unrecognized until the alliance raided Torfan and Raine subsequently getting named "The Butcher of Torfan".

But it sounds great that Raine gets a positive vibe out of having a sister :)

(the Forum Software here always shifts around the smilies underneath the text-window, it's really annoying)

Yeah life's a b-tch ain't it =P I reckon the events on Torfan, however unfortunate that it meant so many alliance casualties, I don't believe there's not a slew of others that would have done the same in Raine's place.
The alliance casualties were said to have come from the close-quarters fights in the underground structures, which couldn't have been avoided anyways. It was a bit of a suicide run in a way, she had her orders.
The title comes from Raine having killed the slavers after they surrendered so both can't be accounted to her personally, while both logicly would be for an effective smear-job.

She'll stand by her beliefs, she'll be happy with the few that can recognize how agonizing the situation and choice were and it'll be enough. I reckon your Talia wouldn't nessecarily have wanted to end up headlined all over the place either, those choices you make for you and 'the greater good', not so the world can see how awesome you are hehe.

True, Talia didn't pick up a rifle and said "after I'm done, I'll give an exclusive Interview" or something like that, it sounds like something "The Duke" would do but there is a difference of character and also gender ;)
While it is nice that people look up to you as some kind of role-model, it can become quite taxing as everyone is always expecting you to set the bar higher and higher.

Sometimes Talia would like to kick back and enjoy the moment, without somebody staring at her with puppy eyes xD
She did what she felt she had to do on Elysium, and I gather the same is true for Raine on Torfan.
I guess in that regard they are pretty much alike :)

@Ottemis, silverhammer- Hee, well this is interesting. Never would've thought a Shepard sisters background story would come out of facecode sharing. I'm very much enjoying what you two are coming up with. ;D

That is awesome, and something like that, yeah =) I love the writing btw.
And no, I didn't read any of this before, I certainly didn't intend on stealing any ideas, if it seemed that way, I'm very sorry =(
I think what will be created from my end on the Talia - Raine front will be limited to maybe a letter adressed to Talia though, I don't know whether I want to expand on it on a regular basis.
Raine/Talia are sisters, I won't at all get into (and wasen't planning to) them hooking up to fight crime together, what we were coming up with was only in regards to their backstory together.

But well, there's lots of potential anyways. I'm glad it's being exploited in that fanfic line you linked =)

to be quite honest, I had not yet delved into the realm of fan-fiction before Ottemis came up with the idea.
But now that you linked me that story, I might as well read it, as the prologue was great already :)

@nranola
yeah, I never would have expected that either

I guess I have to think about a reply to that letter from Raine, hopefully I can come up with something...

Not to make a fuss, but we all pick a backstory for our Sheps on creation, some of us then use that universally provided backstory to help RP our characters in and out of game.
Between Taila and Raine, I shared a facecode and Talia was created, the backstories were different, there was 0 communication about creation, then seeing eachother's screenshots we decided they could be sisters.
I got enthousiastic about the idea. I then started thinking about it, and how it would only be viable if we could somehow link our backstories together.
I'm sorry, but I really don't see how that would in any way imply us stealing anything, nor how needing to point out where the supposed 'roots' of this idea would have come from has any ground at all.

While I have the utmost respect for everyone's fanfic creations, I feel this is an insult to me personally.
It leans towards the assumption I would steal an idea and then not credit the owner for it.
I know you guys don't know me, but maybe you shouldn't assume the worst because that's how this made me feel.

Editted in: Let me also plainly clarify again, I have, before this point not had much interest in writing fanfic, nor have I read any (bar a story about the Fem-Mage origin story and the Cullen romance nod in DA:O).

Maybe i shouldn't have posted this, but here it is. I am who I am in the end, and I hope everyone's feelings do matter to the people in this thread, because I've felt it to be true sofar.

To be fair to all involved, there /has/ been a lot of plagiarism, both intentional and not, going on in the fandom of late, so many of us have a hair-trigger right now as a result.

I wish I were capable of posing them around.  I think there're, like... two programs that you can import models into, but I don't know the details and I'm not too good with rendering/modeling/etc.  This person might know, though.

Well, there is a program out there called "XNA Lara" with which I made a render of Chell, the character from Portal 1 & 2, and there are also some Mass Effect Characters out there.

There is quite a large collection of stuff: here
It's still missing a model of Liara tho :(

heh. sometime, i'm sure. i have this vid idea forming in my head, but it will require MASSIVE hacks and i'm not sure i want to hassle with that yet. i just had someone asking me to please finish my fanfic, so i think that probably will take priority in my "i'm a total ME fan-geek'-related projects for now.

and i have this idea for a backstory photomanip that i want to do. ELE inspired me with this one:

but i suck at photoshop

actually. i'm half tempted to say that there should be some sort of...maybe not contest, per se, but an invitation to make a backstory pic for your shep thingy. like, hey everyone who wants to, try your hand at a pciture that represents your shep's backstory and we share them?

dunno. would anyone else be up for that?
