yes, except for the part where lara was gasping and panting like she was in a soft pr0n vid as she fought free of the sinking ship in that demo. i found that incredibly distracting. i kept thinking, femshep would be saying, "Taking heavy fire!" like she's all pissed off about it, in that wonderful way jen hale does. then again, it IS lara's first outing in that vid game, so we'll see if the story has her toughen up.
(emphasis mine)
Ok. I'm a male and I've got a pretty dirty mind often enough, but sometimes I feel like I'm the only person on the planet that didn't hear this kind of sound or make this kind of association when watching the Tomb Raider trailer or game-play vids. For the trailer, she sounded pretty convincingly like a young woman thrown into a really rough situation. She's getting knocked around, she's half-drowning, and she's scared to death. And she sounds like it. In the game play video, she's in pain (she just got impaled with a steal bar after falling several meters, and then she pulled it out of her own gut!), she's tired, she seems cold, it's like she's barely holding back her own tears and just barely keeping from falling into hysterics, and she's still scared to death. And she sounds like it.
Her cries and gasps of pain and fear sound like pain and fear to me.
Yet a lot of people associate it with porn. I can't help but wonder what kind of porn you all are watching (and how different it is from any porn I may or may not be watching). But, the fact that people associate the sounds of Lara's gasping in fear, pain, and sounding like she's barely holding back tears, the fact that people associate these sounds with porn is a little worrying.

Keep in mind that this is Lara on her first expedition, fresh out of university, and probably never thrust into any kind of difficult situation in her entire life.
And yes, to keep this all tied to femShep, I would expect Artemis (my main femShep) to have probably acted quite similarly when she escaped capture by the Batarian slavers when they attacked Mindoir. Because that was before she had the chance, and maybe even the drive (and likely it caused the drive) to develop into the tough as nails, keep her pain to herself, shrug off everything like it's nothing, and get the job done or die Spectre and Alliance commander that she is now. I can imagine Artemis crawling out of the rubble and ashes of that attack after spending who knows how many hours evading capture while watching friends, family, and neighbors killed or taken away. I can see her emerging after she's cried herself into emotional numbness. I can see her standing up and saying to herself, "The time for crying is OVER."
And I can see her then dedicating herself to becoming strong enough to be able to protect those around her and not let anything like that happen again. Everything was taken from her, and she'll be damned if she just stands by and lets it happen to others.
At least, that is part of how I envision Artemis's origin. And if I had any artistic abilities, I'd try to draw or 'shop it.

Taking note of your last sentence that I quoted, I fully expect we will see Lara toughen up, because as I understand it, this next game will establish the rebooted Lara Croft into the tough, smart, and probably sexy explorer that we knew before, but in an alternate universe with a different story arc (at least that is my understanding).
I like to think that Artemis could look at Lara Croft and see a kindred spirit, though obviously with different origins. But that potential for toughness and dedication is in both of them. Or so I imagine.
