UJ is a Vanguard and so she sees charge as sort of a stress releaser. ;) It’s part of who she is, and she’s neither proud nor freaked out about her abilities. She thought it was cool when she was younger, but now it’s all part of the package.

And Escapist can't tell the difference between canon and defult, but it's nice to hear them talking about femShep.

Some people...

and on the topic of Biotics: Talia is pretty much like Jamie's UJ.
She was trained as a vanguard, and some people say she uses her abilities in a very unrelenting way... but only in combat ;)

I know, not very fleshed out, but i'm working on it.

I can only think of snarky things to say in reply to this (like, "I guess if Shep has boobs, people tend to get confused and stuff), so I'll just stick with 'ooh, yay, another femshep article!'

The small pet peeve of mine is that the game doesn't really allow you much of immension when it comes to non-soldier trained Shepards. They all end up treated like a solder anyway.  (cutscenes, reactions, no awknowledgement of tech/biotic expertese anywhere).

agreed that i wish the biotic sheps got more recognition as such. still, i feel like i can roll with it.

this is something that comes up a lot in my fanfic. so...

kyrie survived mindoir largely to her biotics suddenly kicking in under stress. she lost her family, lost half her face (got rebuilt cybernetically), so for her, the biotics was part and parcel of a complete break with everything she knew. moving on after that, the biotics played a role, but they were always part of the new life and so they're very much a part of her.

military-wise, she sees them as a tool to use and they're deadly. she works hard to make them more so. she's very much a martial artist about her biotics, honing them with constant training. it's part of what gives her her severe, cold, tactical edge.

around others generally, she knows it intimidates people. she's often aloof because of the control needed to keep the biotics in check. you get pissed, you might just burn someone - literally.

around people personally, in my head canon, biotics flare with strong emotion, so she's had intimacy issues in the past. this goes hand and hand with the loss after mindoir. she saw/sees kaidan as a kindred spirit in that hesitancy to open up because your biotic control bleeds over into every other aspect of your life. after meeting kaidan, she's able to feel a little more comfortable with her biotics in her personal life, but she's still highly disciplined about them.

^long answer. here, have a pic as a short answer.

This sounds exactly like people Marge was training with. She enjoyed showing them it's not exactly true. With fists usually >_>
She also assumed that Kaidan is the same until she talked to him >_< Actually I write a short fic about that atm... But it will end up a scrap probably.

What can I say? She's a bit of a **** at times...

And it's the best article on the whole deal, straight and to the point.  Cool!

I posted a very small blog post about the "femshep love" over at femshep.com

Well, I guess femshep.com is really the place to be uploading pictures! Well done to those of you who are getting your femsheps used by the media. Make you sure you get some credit. :)

I love this shot I just got today. I had no idea how well their colors would go together (red, blue, gold). They look well-balanced and ready for business.

Just piping in to say that I'm very pleased with the most recent news about femShep exposure. I really do feel that this thread and its sister site helped push femShep further into the spotlight.

I'm also having a good laugh at some of the contrary responses over in this thread: http://social.biowar...index/7656606/1 Makes me realize how some people really find it hard to see an issue from a completely different perspective.

nice!

also, interesting article on femgamers and how their numbers are increasing, while games still tend to alienate women characters and gamers - tangentially related to femshep, but interesting all the same.

Ow. My brain hurts now.

I feel like taking my old Logic textbook out and seeing how many fallacies and false arguments I can name.

Naw. It would take me all night. And I'm having too much fun watching my hubby start up his first femshep run. Yay him!

I actually have a theory why Shepard is "properly" played as female. May be controversial. Is this the thread for that kind of discussion?

What really gets to me is that some members call us a "shrill minority", as if our concerns are trivial. There's so much arrogance in that type of remark but fortunately most of the people in that thread seemed supportive of the inclusion of FemShep.

Apparently there was an informal survey conducted on Twitter about how the default Shepard should look..... does anyone have any more info on this?

It's not, it's best to avoid MShep V. FemShep discussions in any serious capactiy. A blog entry on your own page would likely by the best place for that kind of discussion.

@ flies: thankfully, the obvious troll on that thread is obvious.

hmm... knee-jerk reaction of a very few threatened maleshep fan vs. YEARS worth of femshep love on femshep fan-threads, now a fan site, fan art, fan vids, fanfic, etc. etc.

it's clear that BW is going to avoid alienating their fans - both us AND obvious-troll. but i think it's also clear that the tide has turned here.

yes, except for the part where lara was gasping and panting like she was in a soft pr0n vid as she fought free of the sinking ship in that demo. i found that incredibly distracting. i kept thinking, femshep would be saying, "Taking heavy fire!" like she's all pissed off about it, in that wonderful way jen hale does. then again, it IS lara's first outing in that vid game, so we'll see if the story has her toughen up.

(emphasis mine)

Ok. I'm a male and I've got a pretty dirty mind often enough, but sometimes I feel like I'm the only person on the planet that didn't hear this kind of sound or make this kind of association when watching the Tomb Raider trailer or game-play vids. For the trailer, she sounded pretty convincingly like a young woman thrown into a really rough situation. She's getting knocked around, she's half-drowning, and she's scared to death. And she sounds like it. In the game play video, she's in pain (she just got impaled with a steal bar after falling several meters, and then she pulled it out of her own gut!), she's tired, she seems cold, it's like she's barely holding back her own tears and just barely keeping from falling into hysterics, and she's still scared to death. And she sounds like it.

Her cries and gasps of pain and fear sound like pain and fear to me.

Yet a lot of people associate it with porn. I can't help but wonder what kind of porn you all are watching (and how different it is from any porn I may or may not be watching). But, the fact that people associate the sounds of Lara's gasping in fear, pain, and sounding like she's barely holding back tears, the fact that people associate these sounds with porn is a little worrying.

Keep in mind that this is Lara on her first expedition, fresh out of university, and probably never thrust into any kind of difficult situation in her entire life.

And yes, to keep this all tied to femShep, I would expect Artemis (my main femShep) to have probably acted quite similarly when she escaped capture by the Batarian slavers when they attacked Mindoir. Because that was before she had the chance, and maybe even the drive (and likely it caused the drive) to develop into the tough as nails, keep her pain to herself, shrug off everything like it's nothing, and get the job done or die Spectre and Alliance commander that she is now. I can imagine Artemis crawling out of the rubble and ashes of that attack after spending who knows how many hours evading capture while watching friends, family, and neighbors killed or taken away. I can see her emerging after she's cried herself into emotional numbness. I can see her standing up and saying to herself, "The time for crying is OVER."

And I can see her then dedicating herself to becoming strong enough to be able to protect those around her and not let anything like that happen again. Everything was taken from her, and she'll be damned if she just stands by and lets it happen to others.

At least, that is part of how I envision Artemis's origin. And if I had any artistic abilities, I'd try to draw or 'shop it. ;)

Taking note of your last sentence that I quoted, I fully expect we will see Lara toughen up, because as I understand it, this next game will establish the rebooted Lara Croft into the tough, smart, and probably sexy explorer that we knew before, but in an alternate universe with a different story arc (at least that is my understanding).

I like to think that Artemis could look at Lara Croft and see a kindred spirit, though obviously with different origins. But that potential for toughness and dedication is in both of them. Or so I imagine.

Looking forward to seeing the new Lara Croft come into her own.

Check out David Silverman's stuff on Twitter.  If you scroll down his posts, he mentions on 28/05/11 that 'her hair is most likely red', in response to a query regarding skin tone, and later on (30/05/11) he says: 'OK, so for #FemShep, the Red Hair votes continue to flood overwhelmingly. As for eyes, hearing a lot of green with some blue. Act now! #ME3'.

So, it looks like it's green eyes and red hair... A true Irish beauty waiting to happen there... :D
