I actually have a theory why Shepard is "properly" played as female. May be controversial. Is this the thread for that kind of discussion?

Possibly, but the existence of a character creator allowing a wide range of faces for either a male or female character makes the question of a "proper" method of playing... questionable.

One could say Ugly Shepard is the "proper" way to play.

Edit. ToP Asari Zombie w/FemShep!

yes, except for the part where lara was gasping and panting like she was in a soft pr0n vid as she fought free of the sinking ship in that demo. i found that incredibly distracting. i kept thinking, femshep would be saying, "Taking heavy fire!" like she's all pissed off about it, in that wonderful way jen hale does. then again, it IS lara's first outing in that vid game, so we'll see if the story has her toughen up.

(emphasis mine)

Ok. I'm a male and I've got a pretty dirty mind often enough, but sometimes I feel like I'm the only person on the planet that didn't hear this kind of sound or make this kind of association when watching the Tomb Raider trailer or game-play vids. For the trailer, she sounded pretty convincingly like a young woman thrown into a really rough situation. She's getting knocked around, she's half-drowning, and she's scared to death.

That was my impression as well.

Mine as well. I had to think about it to make a sex joke, that doesn't normally happen. I felt like she was in real danger and real pain instead of just pwoering trhough everything without making a sound, she was scared, crying, and breathing heavily. I hope Shepard gets some of that humanity added to her, granted she's more battle hardened than "level 1" Lara Croft.Posted Image

^ it wasn't the actual recording. it was that it went on and on and ON and ON endlessly. everything made her gasp. femshep makes noise, but she seems much more controlled in doing so. i dunno. i've never been in a burning ship that's about to sink. but it just sounds like that much gasping wastes breath. again though, as you say, it could be that it's just early lara. i found it vaguely sexualized though, and thought it was just me until i began reading on blogs and seeing on vid commentary that i was not the only one who got that impression.

but hey, that's what volume control is for.

Well Femshep was in high grade combat armor and has many abattle under her belt and an incredibly high pain threshold. Lara was kidnapped, tied upside down, fell, almost drowned, wwas injured and being chased by some dude. Without prior experience so tiw as mostly her being scared witless and in pain. but I can see how it could sound sexual.

As for the tagline at femshep.com, I think it should now be changed from "the best Easter egg in gaming" to "Let someone else be on the poster" as per sage's fantastic video epilogue.

And I thought the Tomb Raider gameplay trailer was as unsexy as you could get.  The only thing that felt wierd about it (and it always feels wierd to me, no matter what game it is... actually, the Arrival DLC caused this same feeling) is when she's talking to herself out loud unnecessarily.  Saying "I've got to get out of here" several times is a bit too much.  Yes, we know you have to get out of here.  You know you have to get out of here.  Perhaps if someone was really in that situation they'd be talking to themselves too, but when you're the one controlling them through a game it just feels awkward.  And the same thing happened with Shepard in Arrival a couple times, which was jarring.  I hope they avoid having Shepard provide a running commentary in ME3.

And it looks like the news has reached Eurogamer as well:
http://www.eurogamer...as-lady-shepard

Ok, so they use FNAR for their article screenshot for a cheap laugh but they have embedded Sagequeen's awesome "The Many Faces of FemShep" video at the bottom of the article :D

Sage, I think you might be internet famous by now!

@Nukee: Not a cult, 'cult fanbase', you know like people who gather around really niche movies or something.

Check out David Silverman's stuff on Twitter.  If you scroll down his posts, he mentions on 28/05/11 that 'her hair is most likely red', in response to a query regarding skin tone, and later on (30/05/11) he says: 'OK, so for #FemShep, the Red Hair votes continue to flood overwhelmingly. As for eyes, hearing a lot of green with some blue. Act now! #ME3'.

So, it looks like it's green eyes and red hair... A true Irish beauty waiting to happen there... :D

Tim

Thanks for the heads up. Looks like she's going to look very similar to the default Shepard used in the first two games. I thought she would look completely different. Hopefully her skin texturing, etc. will be as detailed as Sheploo.

Nice quote from the IFC article on FemShep:

"...the safest way to broad appeal is to put Standard Issue White Guy #38--hasn't shaven for three days, short, dark hair, devil-may-care smirk, maybe a scar for character--on your cover ... But, in a game where you create a character to save the universe from a marauding race of sentient machines, the face of the franchise needn't be restricted to just one type."

Just piping in to say that I'm very pleased with the most recent news about femShep exposure. I really do feel that this thread and its sister site helped push femShep further into the spotlight.

I'm also having a good laugh at some of the contrary responses over in this thread: http://social.biowar...index/7656606/1 Makes me realize how some people really find it hard to see an issue from a completely different perspective.

I guess some people don't like change lol

I'm glad they are featuring femshep in on the cover for ME3, for the past two games its been all about manshep. I'm for one is happy that femshep (and her voice actor) will finally get some credit.

(I tend to lurk more on this thread but I quickly spotted that it was Marge on that article by kotaku, AkodoRyu you must be really happy)
