I personally don't like the default femshep, because unlike the default maleshep, she was made in the character creator, and not scanned from a model. And she just looks so plain, and blank faced. Nothing about her looks special. While the maleshep one is unique, and can't be recreated.

Like compare Lady Hawke to Jane Shepard:

Lady Hawke looks cool and unique. Like actual work was put into her. I'd really wouldn't mind playing with that face.

While Jane Shep just looks... plain, uninteresting, with a blank face.

Here's a surprise for you: Marian Hawke was made in the DA2 character creator too. It's just a better character creator than ME2's.

Thing with female Hawke, though, she, just like her male counterpart, actually had a distinct facemorph (default) on top of those available for customization in the character creator. You couldn't mold her face using the non-modded presets available.

I think the point was more about the evident effort that was put into that face, just like there was evident effort to make default male Hawke distinct. In ME, the default male Shepard face was distinct, while female default felt very generic in comparision.

Apologies if this come out a little harsh, as always personal opinion and all that :)

Edit: Topshep... chewing out the admiralty board!

"With all due respect, Admiral, I didn't represent one of your people, I represented one of mine."  - That line, on top of the renegade delivery is so darn powerful. I love Jennifer Hale there!

@iOnlySignIn Ai. Just saw you added some to your post... looks like we are in agreement there :) Well, except I still don't think much of the default Jane, but tastes differ :).

Clearly, many of the folks here have custom femsheps that they are very attached to. What is your feelings towards/about default femshep - either the one currently made or the one the devs are working on? Do you feel she "is" femshep, that she's just the "poster" femshep, that she's the femshep that represents all femsheps, etc.

I think it's good for female characters and FemShep as a whole but my characters are mine, every feature they have has been crafted by me. Nothing and no design will ever surpass them as far as I'm concerned, mainly because they are exactly what I want. Defaults are just that, defaults and no matter how well they are made if I really like a game I'd make my own character.

After spending three entire playthroughs getting Jessica to look just right, this is my feeling to the letter.

That said, I'm still stoked that there will be a "default" femShep just like a "default" manShep.  Given the number of people who play Sheploo, given the number who just unthinkingly hit the default because they don't want to be bothered with all that character stuff and just want to go shoot stuff, it can only increase her popularity.  And there are still plenty of customized manSheps out there, so there's no danger to femShep on that front, either.

I See default femshep as the foundation that the custom femsheps are built on. I always create my new femsheps from the default model in the CC and they turn out great (like Kat) You can't build [insert building] without a strong foundation and that's what default Femshep will be. Hell I might even create a default Jane PT one of these days.

Yeah it doesn't really translate well into a smaller version. Sorry. But here is a smaller version.

Stealing.  Hope I can fit it in.

I love all the theories thrown about when it comes to FemShep.  We're all a bunch of feminists who are persecuted and we make Easter Egg thread titles that clearly show that.  We're totally not joking when we do this.  Oh, another good one is FemShep is popular around here because we're all men that like staring at our Sheppie's ass.  We should also stop with all the crazy talk when we say we prefer FemShep to ManShep concerning voice acting or characterization.  We're clearly a bunch of bashers.

I received a text from my cousin last night telling me there would be a FemShep trailer coming out, so I know that this news is everywhere when it comes to gamers.  I so wanted to tell him I was part of this whole movement among fans but it's such a long explanation. x D

Yeah, the best part of all this is that we actually got to participate. From constantly dishing out trailers to something as simple as pitching in on what FemShep's hair/eye color should be, it's such a honor to say that we played a part in, what I believe, is one of the highlights in Mass Effect history. :)

Well, I feel like I was just along for the ride, but what a ride!!! It's been a privilege to be here, and I can't wait to see what happens next!

If I think of Shepard, it's Hrist's face that instantly comes to mind. In fact I don't always recognise default Jane when I see her in a screenshot. I have no real attachment to her, but I suppose she does represent everyone's FemShep to some degree, as there is no official face for FemShep like there is for MaleShep.

This lovely lady is and will always be Commander Shepard to me, regardless of what Bioware create.

*picsnip*

I feel the same way about Kate, I might have a few other femsheps but Kate's appearance is what I think of for Commander Shepard.

It's more than double. £27.99 with free delivery from Amazon UK. Guys and gals... I have doubts about getting the DD/CE. :pinched:

Sorry I meant a 30% increase on the ME2 CE price.   Which is frustrating as there is little new content with it really.  A postcard litho, a N7 patch and a slightly larger artbook is a bit steep for that increase on the ME2 one.

Shame they failed to make the uber edition. I would to have loved to have seen what they would have included.   Probably not a femshep poster.  Chris was a little against that wasnt he ryn ;) :P

I still can't get over how similar Kate and Hrist look.

As for the CE, I ordered it at 60 quid from Game and the very next day it went up to £70! I'll still get it for £60, but even that is a crazy price for a game. FemShep is worth it though. ^_^

If it matters, I pre-ordered mine from Amazon (not UK), so I'm pretty sure that they have them in stock there.

Shipping fees really are a pain. :/ I live in the Philippines; I'm doubtful that the local game store will stock the CE so I'll most likely have to import. So that's an extra $30 for shipping if I want to get it a week after release day at most, an extra $20 if I can wait a month - the $20 extra for the CE itself isn't much of a concern to me because I think the merchandise is well worth it. <3

Speaking of merchandise, this is interesting. Would be REALLY cool if they do manage to get that into the CE! *crosses fingers*

I love all the nerd rage that is happening because of Femshep getting some marketing attention at last, reading through some of the bigoted and frankly sometimes sexist rubbish that is spouted by (what I assume to be) spotty teeneagers gave me a wry smile and a shake of the head.

Not only that but Alice did the same;

I personally don't get the angst that is being bashed out by a lot of people, I'm a bloke that actually finds playing as Manshep very tedious, which is why I've got 5 Femsheps and no Manshep playthroughs, besides I didn't buy the product because of the bloke on the front. Too many people seem to be blinkered about who plays games these days and Bioware/EA are doing the right thing in trying to break the stereotype of gaming being a male orientated medium. The trouble is, the nerd ragers seem to think that gaming should be a bastion of male dominance still, about time their world was flipped upside down.

I rather think about default Jane as of our "representative". About being true... Dunno. Every Shepard is "true", white, black, male or female. Sure, my Shepard is "mine", but she's still just one avatar amongst many others. I don't even find her voice fitting with the face, not always anyways. Unless BW improves facial animations in ME3, I will still feel a bit odd about her. I love her to bits thou and I wish I could be better with RP and writing stories, to make her believable, so people would like her for more than just her face.

I will be happy about "new Jane", but also I'd like BW to remember where they started.

I agree with Akodo that all Shepards are true and everyone has his/her own character. I love default Jane and she is my canon Shep. However redhead Shepard is not the only 'default' one. BioWare always give us several default characters. Theere are 10 default FemSheps

I don't really care if there will be new default FemShep or not. As long as I can import my characters to ME3

So, yeah, I personally am not a fan of blondes, but I do really like it when blondes wear blue clothing. That juxtaposition of colors makes think of the sand and the ocean, or the sun in the sky, or panning for gold in a stream, or all these things.

Needless to say, I think Liara and blonde femshep look soooo good together...

Ack, I was meaning to comment on this yesterday but I was so occupied with homework that I nearly forgot. >__< Anyhoo, just wanted to say that I like how you associated the aesthetic analogies of blue and yellow with Liara and June. It's a very romantic way to look at it. ;)
