Both are equally important, I will write some major matters because it affects my shepard's character.

One of reason I kept the scar on Colly is the glowing red eye perfectly match her character. When those eyes are looking at enemies, they better start running.....fast!

BTW, here's a quick preview of something I'm working on for that fanart showcase. Pay no attention to the unfinished head... or, y'know, unfinished everything else for that matter. :P

Guys, he was just saying that he doesn't like the hair - not necessarily the Shepard wearing it. I don't think he was aiming to ****** anyone off by saying that. Let's not make a big deal out of it. :)

But speaking of which, I do like that hairstyle. I just don't like it when it starts clipping all over the face:

That is one seriously good-looking Shepard right there.  Almost like a brunette Kyrie (and anyone who's been here for any length of time knows how much I love Kyrie).

Hmm.  I'd say for Jessica, her Earthborn background is the most important thing about her, as it really defines the psychological profile that allowed her to be the Hero of the Blitz as well as everything that came after.  It defines her negative aspects as well, though.  As much as she has struggled all her life to escape Earth, she still can't seem leave it behind her.

It's pre-service history for my main Shep, which makes me sad because it tends to get swept aside most times. Like in Jennelyn's case (Colonist/Sole Survivor) when Kaidan ask about why she joined the military she answers with "My family were farmers" and right after that Kaidan answers with "Oh right, Akuze!" without batting an eyelash. And en-route to the Cerberus facility when Jacob asks about Shepard's history she only ever gets the chance to comment on Akuze.

I suppose it would make sense for a lot of people not to know about Shepard's life before the military and thus not comment on it, but I wish it got a bit more recognition. Here's to hoping that it'll have a greater impact in ME3.

Mindoir defines Sarah the most. Heck Mindoir and Sarah is almost the same. Mindoir gave her scars that some may never see and some scars that affect her always. After all her great results Sarah got the nickname the Angel of Mindoir just because she was a shining star of Paragon. In ME1 she continued with this and met some amazing people and she was at her best. After she died in ME2 she had to endure a lot of trauma and she fell. She started to be ruthless and renegade in her ways and you can see her as a ''Fallen Angel'' now. In ME3 she intend to be the a ''Avenging Angel''

Jei's past is particularly shady, so in a way she's thankful all they talk about is Akuze -- I mean, hell, who knows what kinda reactions she'd get if word got out that she used to be a red sand runner for the Reds, y'know?

*snip*

And thanks for reminding me, I gotta finish this fic I've been sitting on, which addresses her Earthborn background in the first place. :P

Yeah, I suppose that's true. Shepard has quite the colorful past; it would be a great relief if no one mentioned it. xD I never thought of it that way.

Haha awesome! I still remember that picture you drew about Jei's background and the dialogue in it. Very powerful lines. While I'm at it, holy crap the detail on that armor for the fanart showcase picture is INSANE! I can't imagine how long it took you to draw all that in. o__o Keep up the good work!

Oh, and thank you for reminding me that I need to get started on my submission as well lol. I hope I still have enough time after this giant stack of homework is dealt with. xP

Thanks! Haha yes, I thought so too! It certainly didn't look like it in the character creation screen but when Jennica finally got out into the field she started to remind me of Kyrie. It doesn't help that she's a biotic as well. xD

I only have an extended background for Anna. I think I pay about equal attention to both the pre-service history and the psychological profile. Her pre-service history, colonist, set the path for her life, eventually joining up with the Alliance, discovering her biotic potential, getting the implants and becoming a kick-ass vanguard.
I have set it up that the events surrounding her psychological profile, sole survivor, are the key for her resolving the other consequence of the attack on Mindoir: loosing her parents, which she pretty much had burried inside her until Akuze. Her first love is part of the unit to investigate the colony and dies in the Thrasher Maw attack. Anna is forced to deal with loss again is able to resolve both the loss of her parents and her love.
I use her pre-service history to define what she does and her psycholgical profile how she does it. I try to link everything equally, so that it is not just a sequence of occurences, but prior experiences having an influence on how she handles newer ones.
How Anna handles the events of the game is more influenced by her psychological profile, though, so it carries more weight for her.

Okay, i was gonna quote your whole wall o' text, but i won't, but i still read it and i think it's awesome. while everyone is entitled to their own shepard, of course, for me, femshep IS shep, and the game always felt to me like it was 'meant' to be played with a female lead. i just adore it that way. and i'm happy that you are having fun (if a little "arrrgh!" thrown in there) in figuring out your perfect canon playthrough.

and i agree that the kaidanmance is something pretty spectacular. can't wait to see what they do with it in ME3 and i hope it lives up to the awesomeness that is femshep's and kaidan's respective characters. (edit: and maleshep, too, if this ever happens)

I don't favour one over the other. They're both equally important.

agreed. i mentally had to shift the war hero story in my head though, because while you get constant props for it, i imagine it would have been just as gritty as ruthless, though perhaps less so than sole survivor. while the outcome was hunky-dory, or so the alliance makes it out to be, but i imagine the actual fighting would have been brutal, and shepard was probably a pretty vicious a killer to get through it. that is my take, anyhow. in my head-canon, kyrie was pretty battle-mad throughout the ordeal.

Psychological profile, I guess.

Mindoir was formative, and not to say that it didn't hurt, but it just kinda happened.  Akuze redefined the person she was into the person she is.

Honestly, I suck at story telling, writing stuff, background stories and everything related to that. I do have something forming in my head but I dunno if I ever have guts to write it down... But now that I think about it, I hardly think about psychological profile. Much more pre-service history related things.

Today I was at one of my best friends weddings. Apparently they had to pick the hottest day so far. Many hours at >30c in black suit (I don't have anything else - just swapped the tie) was pure torture. The wedding was great, though. It's still a bit funny, wedding after funeral...

So, yeah...I'll end this rambling monstrosity here. Thanks guys, for helping me see the awesomeness that is femShep!

This is awesome. And I totally understand where you're coming from, it took me several playthroughs to nail down Shepard, to say nothing of Jessica Shepard herself.

Yeah, I shouldn't have any issues with Kat figuring her out. Like I said, the story itself for "Shepard" is pretty well set in stone for me. Certain decisions, certain lines in conversations, etc. are all pretty much figured out. There's some wiggle room, for certain, since Kat is a different background/psych profile, and I've already found a couple places where a couple of conversation options were a little different, but I can tell that the main "meat" of the story is gonna go a certain way that I find the most satisfying. But thanks for the comment!

Captain Crash wrote...

Its a great feeling isnt it

I think a few of us have had similar experiences. I had three main characters. My first ever playthrough as maleshep. That was quickly forgotten after I played femshep. Who then became my next main character.

Then recently I created a new Shep who rather lovely so now she my main girl It can take a while to get right but its a good journey

I'm glad I'm not alone in this boat, just a little late to the party. But hey, better late than never, right? And MAN, what a helluva party!

nranola wrote...

Sorry for the snip, it was way too long to quote lol. I read it all though.

I started Mass Effect with a female character straight away so when I say that manShep doesn't feel quite right to me is extremely biased (I tried but stopped halfway through Eden Prime), but I'm glad that you feel that way about femShep! It's always a pleasure to know that she's being recognized. Best of luck with your canon playthrough!

Oh, no worries about the snip. If everyone had quoted that mammoth wall-o-text, we'd probably have crashed the server! (I keed! I keed!)

I'm glad you figured out your Shep so early on. I thought I had too, and then FemShep smacked me upside the head for daring to think her male counterpart was "canon*! lol Seriously, though, it's a wierd feeling having my entire view of the story change, but it's a good kinda wierd, if ya know what I mean. I mean, maleShep is awesome, don't get me wrong, but having played femShep, she's just more awesome, because she's that rare female protagonist who's both strong without being overdone, and tender without being a damsel in distress. I like that about her. I think Kat's story is gonna be the most awesomest thing in ME history! Except...for your guys' femSheps that is...lol

Akari Tenshi wrote...

Welcome to the club.

It took me a while to find my Shepard too, but it was worth the wait. I have others but Hrist will always be Commander Shepard to me.

Yeah, Kat seems to be the one, so far. Everything about her just seems to fit the story so much better than I'd have thought at first. I, for one, cannot be more glad to have been wrong!

Yeah, I think Ash's romance (by itself) is still my favorite, but after playing through Kaidan's, Ash has some serious competition. Add to that the fact that femShep is Shepard to me now, like you said, and Kaidan is now the "canon" romance for my Shepard by default.

And the "Arrgh" you mentioned was more a joke on my part, plus maybe a bit of sadness that Rani is over with. I really liked her, but she's just not right anymore. Ah well. Kat looks like she'll make up for Rani in spades. I've spent a coupla hours on her in the CC, and I think I'm close, if not there. I'll take some pics soon and see what y'all think. Plus, her background and psych profiles are different than my maleShep, so while I have Kat's playthrough planned out for the most part, there's still some wiggle room for her to surprise me and keep things fresh.

--o0O0o--

wow, that's alot of replies to reply to. Thanks everyone for commenting. I swear, this has to be the friendliest thread on these boards, and a great group of people to associate yourself with. Thanks again!

Question tangentially related: Does anyone have a handy way of generating the RGB numbers for modding makeup and stuff? I got the tutorial to mod here, but I have no clue how to get the values, haha.

Luckily I wanted dark red vampy lipstick the same colour as the dark red armour so I just jacked the values from that.

Gratuitous Shepard for relevance:
