 Random pic bomb incoming...

*awesomepicsnippage*

Also as randomly, a pic of femshep sort of inspired me to write a blog post this morning about being a girl gamer. I tweeted it, but I'll mention it here, too. As I've said, I often wear my N7 hoodie around town, but no one I know gets it.

I can relate to that blog post in quite a number of ways.  I'm not a mom, but I'm a 34 y/o dad to 3 girls (ages 15, 13 & 8) and one rambunctious little 3 y/o boy.  The sheer TIME it takes to be a good dad, not to mention a good husband to my wonderful wife (who does not get my gaming habit at all), that time does severely curtail my gaming hours.

A great read Sage and a nice followup by khevan.   Its the time factor that rings out most to me.  Even though you have alot on your plate being a parent and so many things to do you still make time for it because you love doing it.

As Sage pointed out, the idea of what we consider a gamer is changing.  I think in part the Wii (love or hate it) has also helped broaden the market.   I was at uni when it came out and I knew girls who would never touch a game suddenly become really interested and a few went out and bought one.    A few weeks later she would come round to our house and play Halo with us.  :D

so true. that one article i mentioned i think really nails it, and you do too, capt: platforms are opening up that weren't there and that opens up gaming in general. the idea of buying an x-box with all the buttons and knobs and bells and whistles seems intimidating and wasteful to non-gamers. but if you already have the i-phone and are bored, or if you can justify gaming by getting wii fit to 'lose the baby weight' and end up playing games instead (nuttin' wrong with that! ;)), then that opens up gaming to more people, even 'non-standard' gamers like moms. the interfaces and HUDs and commands are also getting more streamlined, too, so it's easier to get into a game even without reading a 10 page manual and training your thumbs for months on end on how to just just right.

and then the new gamers get drawn deeper and deeper into the abyss.... muahahaha!

ahem.

and then there are those of us who started out with king's quest on the PC and remember the days of inserting endless floppy disks just to walk through the game world. true, i was only 6 then, but it still makes me feel dated.

and let's not forget: New and awesome heroes like FemShep make people want to play games where the same ol' big-guy-with-a-big-gun bored us before.

@ khevan: cheers.

Far too true.  I don't like games where I can't play as a woman.

I've gotten to the point where I just don't buy them. I only budget X much for games, so I have to be choosy. Since I generally prefer play as a woman, if a game doesn't give me an option to do so, it goes WAY down on my wishlist. Conversely, games that let me build custom characters and choose multiple story lines go way up, since they have more re-playability.

Exactly.  Which is why my husband keeps accusing me of being Bioware obsessed.  LOL

The Wii as a gateway drug?  I can imagine the advertising campaign now, with the hand controller morphing into an assault rifle

@Sage - nice blog post, I enjoyed the perspective.  "... there's nothing quite like having your ribs kicked from the inside out while trying to line up a perfect headshot or quell darkspawn..." is not something I would have ever imagined during all my hours in front of a monitor, but I don't think it's something I'll ever forget now that I've read it :)

@ Findas: lol. false contractions are fun, too. nothing like playing da:o and sympathizing more with the BroodMother than the Warden to make you feel all kinds of wrong.

I'm glad I'd swallowed my Coke before I'd read that.  I'd owe my company a new monitor.

These are....amazing f1r3! I like them a ton, I think they are wonderful, and showw just the romance between Jolene and Liara, very well done, and an awesome pair they are.

If you had to choose someone's femshep to tag team in your femsheps universe, whos would it be and why?

Hm....there would be a few I could pick from. Rah's Sarah would be one, and f1r3's Jolene, Mizz's Jennifer as well, a few more as well. As to why, I know for fact they would get along with Lili.

MizzNaaa wrote...
FemShep question time.

Your Shepard's reaction after abandoning Earth?

Lili's reaction, eh? "To leave now and let humans die, but leaving to band the species together, humanity may suffer, but it's humanity or all. I must leave for the fate of every one, including myself." <- that is her reaction. She's fine with it, knowing that it's either some of humanity dies, or they all die, it's just that simple.

I think Shadows Lili or Hyper's Velina or Mr.V's Maddy would be the three Sarah would have most fun with and work together with and i can't forget Naa's Jennifer, they would also have a lot of fun

And since I already had pics of Kyrie, Mackenzie & Moira from making my class wallpapers, and they were fairly quick to make... well here you go. Enjoy and do with them as you please. ^_^

Apologies if they take a while to download. I had to save them as PNGs to make them transparent, so they're quite big.
