There was nothing wrong with the Mako, the issues were with the crappy map layouts we had to drive on in ME1. The Hammerhead was a nice idea, but was poorly designed.

Now in ME3 if we can get something that is a mix of Mako resilience and Hammerhead movement, Bioware will have a winner. As it is, the Mako is the better vehicle.

Scamper posted a pic of Jih on th previous page of Jih contemplating her retrieved helmet from the dog tag mission. It made me wonder how my Shepards would have reacted to finding that helmet. I think most of them would have looked inside after much anxious thought, worried there may be remains of her head inside. They would then search the area to be sure there were no other pieces of her former body laying around. She is still not convinced Cerberous isn't lying about the reconstruction. Has anyone else considered how their Shepards reacted to that moment?

Quick question about the annoying reporter in ME1: Are her questions limited to the last major mission you complete only, or does she cover all the major missions if you've done them all?

Random forehead shot frowny face to keep on-topic:

I loved the Mako. There was no problem w/ the rover itself. The terrain was the real problem. The Hammerhead, on the other hand is a piece of crap, but after I had Garrus fix the shields it's at least bearable. (I hacked the ini file and modded the shields to where it's about on par w/ the Mako.) :P

Where do people leave the marker? I tend to go with the bridge area. I blame Pressly's log, I've played that mission a dozen times and it still never fails to choke me up.

Erica always placed the marker next to Ashley's station, (her best friend). April always placed the marker at Kaidan's station, (her LI in ME1). UJ typically places the marker next to Pressly's data file. Like Quething said, I like to think of this as Shepard's loyalty mission.

Hrist placed it near the remains of the crew deck, where you get the flashback of either Ash or Kaidan. She sees her crew as her family, so placing the marker in the place everyone would come together seemed the most fitting location to her.

This. Always the crew deck, always near Ash's station.

It feels fitting to leave it to her memory, as symbolic of everyone else who was lost.

<3 the Mako.

Really, the driving wasn't bad and neither was the terrain.  Even uphill, almost everywhere you could hook the wheels into a crag and keep your traction.  There were like, one or two places you couldn't get it up, where you didn't have to go anyway.

I would play an entire game of Mako and Uncharted Worlds.  :o

Anyway.

Ehhhhh.... Mako.

I'm sorry, I came to hate that thing beyond all reason. I did not mind the Hammerhead as much because

1) it was used sparingly. I only had to pull it out on some missions, and then it made for a nice change of pace. It also could FLY.

2) it was not required to get to every dang side-mission in the story.

I liked the side missions in ME1 for how they added to the story, and there were some fantastically fun moments there. But for the most part, it drove me NUTS how long it took to get places, the stupid scanning of minerals, and since I tend to be OCDish about games, I just had to get out and kill stuff on foot to get max XP. I have several friends who I've gotten to play ME2, but they will never play ME1 because they hated the Mako so much.

So yeah, that's me. I hated the Mako and the ME1 side quest system. I felt ME2 vastly improved on that. Now if ME3 can just bring back the good stuff like squaddie banter, comm-room debrief, and KAIDAN, then I think it will be a nigh-perfect game.

Kaidan: What the h*ll? Is that thing gonna attack the Mako?
Shepard: Dude. Have at it.

IMHO, the Mako was a great idea (Let's give our S-F hero a light AFV to run around on planets with), but some of the maps were horrible. I do agree many of the Planetary exploration maps were FUBAR, but there were ways around it.

Also, it added to the real feeling of the game. It looks like a futurized MOWAG Piranha or similar wheeled APC/IFV.

@Red: No problem. Enjoy. :)

The Mako? No thanks. I was glad to see the back of it.

As Sage said, the side missions in ME1 were interesting, but having to drive that... thing around to get to every single one was an absolute nightmare. For a heavily armoured "tank", it was incredible light and bouncy and the thing could do a 720 spin, with a twirl from driving over a pebble! Seeing it beeched on a rock in the Crash Site DLC  brought a smile to my face. :D

Now if Bioware can combine the handling of the Hammerhead with the durability of the Mako, that would be a good vehicle to have in ME3.

Oh, I instantly knew what Jessica's response to that would be.

Yep. Yours should definitely be the default for ME3. I've seen a lot of excellent Shepard's out there...but yours captures everything about all of them, especially in this pic. DEM EYES.

Awesome pose. Absolutely awesome pose. Where was this taken? I would love to shoot my FemShep in this pose.

That looks like the Colossus armour, so I'm guessing this is ME1, or is it a modded Shep running on ME2?

ME1, eden prime near the spaceport. Shep is crouched and 'stuck' to cover, screen angle taken with flycam. Shep moves her head according to where the selector is and where she is in cover and which direction she's moving, then it's just a matter of pausing and taking the shot.

Again, where was this taken? Looks like Tali's loyalty mission, but that isn't a pose I remember. Modded somehow?

This is Tali's loyalty mission, but the sitting takes place off camera. It happens when you first talk to Veetor, and can be seen by panning out with flycam.

On the topic of the Mako: I have to admit I HATE the Mako. Easily the worst thing about ME1 for me. It's the one thing holding me back from playing the **** outta that game. I just can't stand how clunky it is and that it's required for just about every side mission.  Most of the time I just don't even care about the enemies and just pass them by.  Trying to aim with the Mako is a **** and it slows down the gameplay. The only thing I use it for it to get from point A to point B and it doesn't even do that well.<_< I'd be happy with no vehicle at all for ME3 honestly.
