It was. He read each paragraph with a different accent.

Also I completely agree with you Ele. And 100k, we have been playing our foxy ladies for 3 games, the likelihood of us all suddenly feeling the need to completely change what Shepard looks like is very little. Let's all be happy that all our hardwork has paid off.

All I have to say about this "What Shepard Should Look Like" argument is thank God 1 opinion equals 1 vote and then it will be over. If I had to listen to it much longer I'd open my skull with a ball peen hammer.

It's not bad Luna, you've certainly got the ability to put this stuff together and get it to blend properly. Hey and someday you might even be able to please yourself! :wizard:

Also by extension I'm quite fine with whatever design wins, they'll all look pretty cool on my CE edition.

The fact that many people are arguing about how FemShep should look like shows how much people care about her, so while some arguments can take a nasty turn I can't see it as a bad thing entirely. :) The rise of FemShep is a pretty big deal not just for Mass Effect fans but for the gaming world as a whole. You can't blame people for being concerned about how it should be handled, though some express it in a more destructive way than others.

I'm not going to add fuel to the fire here and detail more of my opinions on the femShep marketing strategy. I'll just say that I'm just glad that BioWare is making an effort to get her the recognition that she has always deserved.

FWIW, I'm definitely not complaining (and apologies if I gave that impression). I'm merely commenting.

I am, of course, quite happy that FemShep is finally getting the exposure she deserves. I'm quite looking forward to any FemShep promo materials when the come out (can't wait to hear Jennifer Hale's voice coming out of a Mass Effect trailer).

But overall, I haven't really been paying any attention to whatever the marketing strategy is or any of the hubbub about it. I've got my femShep, and whatever BioWare does with there's, it's just another FemShep that's not mine and so has little bearing on me. ;)

Hey, just a quick question, does anyone have a link the Facecode to ME1 sliders thing here?

I'm running my Renee through the whole darn thing again here, and I'd like to get her through with the same face through all the games!

Thompsmt you can do it the unlazy way. Count from 1-9 then A, B, Cs for the sliders. That is how the ME2 code can be translated back to the ME1 sliders.

I find it problematic that some people seem to be disliking some of these designs because of preconceptions of how smart and capable they think pretty women are (or are not). I also find it problematic that the designers chose to exclude a design that looked anything like original Jane, as better rendered hair and possibly a face model to ratchet up her detail to Sheploo's level would have sufficed.

Instead, we seem to be getting a lot of hoopla due to putting these appearance options to a public vote in a less than stellar forum. I'm loathe to start actually counting the sexist comments under those images in Facebook; I can barely go five comments down without skimming through 'I pick this one because she looks like X celebrity who I want to have sex with' or 'this one has short hair and therefore looks like a lesbian, therefore I hate it'. Weird at best, creepy at worst.

I mean, I get that we'd like more people to play with FemShep. I'm totally down with that. I'm just not down with the kind of people who are going, "Well, we'll only deem her worthy to play as if she's a total hottie." Yikes! That kind of requirement isn't placed on Sheploo, regardless of how hot one thinks he is. Why should it be placed on Jane? And setting her looks to a vote does have that kind of effect, especially when 1) one of those looks stands out as hitting most of NA's stereotypical beauty standards, and 2) the votes are being cast on a forum whose lowest common denominator vastly approves of NA's stereotypical beauty standards. It just feels a little off to me, personally.

Not to say I don't like the designs. I like them all and actually voted for them all. And I'm sure their intent was simply to make the players feel like we're involved. It just... doesn't come off that way sometimes.

But maybe it's a contextual thing: I don't trust Facebook, I don't agree with stereotypical beauty standards, I thought making Jane a redhead in the past was a bold move, I wish she'd have had as much facial detail as Sheploo, and I usually don't trust a marketing ploy as far as I can throw it. No offense to Silverman, mind you. Dude's a sweet adorkable guy, and I don't think he's got a bad bone in his body.

It's a little late and I'm losing my ability to string words together into coherent sentences, so I'll stop before I start babbling. Er... or KEEP babbling, anyway. Uh. Here, have a Jei to distract you all! *runs*

Meh. I agree for the most part. It is important to note that the original Jane WILL be in ME3 as, from what I understand, another default model.

But like I said, most of us shouldn't even really care one way or the other. In the end, femShep will probably get two or three trailers at most, while mShep will get six or seven. This isn't so much about judging (/not judging) these character designs, as it is about simply choosing which one will be representing the femShep PC in trailers. I guess I shouldn't speak for all of us, but I for one will probably NEVER play as the new femShep--because her new render, model codes, hairstyles, etc will be limited to ME3. So, unless I decide to play ME3 as the "entry point" into the series (which sounds about as appealing as jamming my head into a sealed plastic bag, while having someone tickle my feet) I don't really care.

Its a great announcement. It's great that they are letting us decide (more devs should do this). But this "quality default femShep" is just...too late. Too late into the series for her to have any real impact for anyone but new players.

Hello Female Shepard fans. I always play Sheploo but I think my next Shepard will be a Female (and my first Renegade too). Thing is, I'm not fond of the default face and in every game where there is a Character Creator, I always make crap faces so I turn to defaults (in ME = Sheploo).
Anyone have a good looking face recipe for a Renegade (going for Infiltrator if that helps).

Did you check out the ME2 faces database yet?
Lots of lovely faces shared there =)

How do the recipes there work? Looks like numbers and letters...

When you start a new custom shep in ME2, in the bottom of the Character Creator you can input that 'code' and it'll give you the face specified =)

If you want to use a custom shep for ME1, you can use a conversion tool Tup3xi created. You input the facecode from the masseffect2faces website into the tool and it will generate a textfile that shows you the sliderpositions for the ME1 Character Creator. You can find that tool here.

I checked the site, liked these, in no particular order:

http://www.masseffec....php?faceID=531 (this one just the face, would tweak hair; in fact, most of these are just for the face)
http://www.masseffec....php?faceID=286
http://www.masseffec...php?faceID=1812
http://www.masseffec...php?faceID=1472

Anyone else think they look nice?

Huh! Didn't know original flavor'd default Jane would still be in -- I was under the impression that  trailer/boxart FemShep would be the new designated Jane. Pleasantly surprised. Though also slightly confused as to why we're voting on a whole other FemShep flavor anyway. Ah, well.

I disagree with the amount of impact FemShep will have now (color me a little too optimistic in that regard, I know), but I do agree that it would have been much more of an impact if this would have been done two games ago. And I hope they prove us wrong in the amount of FemShep material they'll be putting out versus the inevitable mountain of Sheploo material. I don't hate Sheploo by any means, though. Just, y'know, gimme lotsa FemShep lovin' too.

I'm thinking I'll probably use the new default in ME3, in addition to my current Sheps, just for fun.

The main reason I'm really happy with a real default though is not to use it in-game, but for the promo material.  Even with just the reveal of the 6 potential options, we get to see the female version of the ME3 armor (I love it!)

In the trailer, we'll get to see female animations, and hear Hale doing the voiceover.  And that's what I really wanted anyways, some pre-release material to get excited about, and get a preview before the game comes out.  I'm okay with however they make her face look.

The fact that it will be the face used for not just a character but a group of people in the gaming community who has been underrepresented for such a long time gives people more reason to care. If we're going through with this we might as well put our best foot forward, right?

I most likely won't be using the new femShep either, not unless she can be ported into the first two games somehow, in which case she'd be PERFECT for a Spacer/Ruthless Shep I've been thinking of running (assuming blondie Shep wins). I tweeted Casey if this can be done, so far no response. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed. >__<
