Maybe it's because the brunette and redhead spots are already "taken" by Miranda and Kelly. A blond femshep may be a fresh look for the voters. At least that's why June Shepard dyed her hair for a while.

She'll probably go back to her natural color for the "f--- it, I don't care, I'm doing whatever" play through. :) Fits that messy shoulder length style.

The fact there arnt any Blondes at all really in Mass Effect makes me think its part of the reason why she's so poular.  They really are under represented arnt they!

@Cypher:  I really like her, her eyes are very striking and she really suits the scars :)

Edit: top o' page Default femshep!!   ;)

Or perhaps is because of Ottemis pointed out.
There's only one blonde shep, 5 non-blondes. Everybody that prefer blondes have exactly one option. Easy to agree.
If they put out 5 blondes and only 1 brunette, brunette wins.
I mean, 43% for blonde means that 57% prefers other things.

Armor gains a 3.5 second delay in all male Human and Batarian merc aggression. Armor gains a 1.5 second delay to all male Turian and Krogan merc aggression.  (Note: It is not known if the delay in Turian and Krogan aggression is caused by an elevation in hormonal activity at the sight of exposed female human breasts or if they merely think the suit is ridiculous.)  Armor gains a .5 second delay in Asari merc aggression due to admiration of said armor.  No delay is granted to Vorcha or Salarian mercs.  Human female merc aggression is increased by 2.8 seconds.

WARNING: Instead of charging and biting as per usual, all male Varren charge the wearer’s leg in an attempt to straddle and “hump” the wearer’s leg.  The same activity has been noted in Vorcha as well.

Armor also gains charm points with all male interactions. Intimidation points decrease in ALL interactions.

I know! There was a lot of emotion running through that article.

I do agree with her that Bioware could have been a bit more adventurous, however they were tbh! They included six options a couple of which were different and unique. Thing is its the fans choosing to play it safe with the blonde #5.

There's no changing the results. "Diversity" is spread out in 5 options. They made it easy for blonde shep.

Guess thats much the point really isnt it.  Everyone has an opinion and by doing a contest like this it would be inevitable.  As much as I like Ottemis's idea, its a lot of effort with rounds and kind of drags it all out.  Additionally you will forever be tweaking and people will still be disappointed if blonde eyebrows were replaced with black ect. There a flaw with every system like this. Here at least Bioware have presented six options and said choose for better or worse.

Anyway its still only for the trailer, the CE and other small snippets of media.  The CC will still reign supreme im sure and most of us will be playing our imported sheps for months before the newbie gets a running.

Shepard: What do you want to do about Blondie Shepard, Miranda? You're the one who's going to be overshadowed. I'm a custom job.
Garrus: I do like her fringe.
Miranda: That's it. She's dead.

The flipside to that argument though is to say: "Well what did you expect?" I'm personally under no illusions that the reason Number 5 looks the way she does is because Marketing did their research and listened to the people who called Sheploo a boring Marketing constuct. They know many people out there like that stuff and find it "badass" yet they now manage to, by making it a vote shift the "fault" of us getting such a femShep onto the fans. It's a win-win for BioWare Marketing, they get something that's easy to market and we get to hate ourselves and the "fans" for it.

I am not personally bitter about this, since I am just glad that femShep is getting some more recognition but I do wish they had gone for something more original and unique.

EDIT: What I meant to say is that all the six options were probably designed with Marketing in mind, not just Number 5.

~holds Meghan back from a murderous rage~

Posted Image

What gets me is the idea that pretty girls (and therefore blondes) are automatically labeled as less tough and less "useful" than other women. That they're somehow boring. (And yes, if my husband and every other person of my acquaintance is to be believed, I qualify as pretty.) I really hate this stereotype. I've been denigrated for being pretty, I've been underestimated for it, I've been disregarded for it. And before anyone tells me it ain't no picnic for the other side, well... adolescence wasn't kind to me, either.

Looks in either direction have nothing to do with a person's competence. And the sooner we stop perpetuating that bull****, the better.

From that linked article:
So it breaks my heart that the mass public have gone for such the wishy washy, Barbie faced personality vacuum that is Shep 5.

WTF? Since when does being blonde mean you have no personality? I'm sure Kyrie would be amused to hear that. I know Meghan would be laughing her ass off. Star's Tris would be equally amused -- and then shoot the jokester.

Denigrating a blonde for being a blonde is no more productive than dissing anyone else for their looks. Nor is it any better than dissing this Shepard for her skin color:
