There's only one blonde Shep out of the lot, but there's also just one redhead. I guess a lot of people just really like blondes? Or... the hair? Gah, I don't know. xP

I feel really bad for #2 having such a low vote count lol. And to think her colors were the majority's choice on Twitter.

I guess it was inevitable if BW decided to make a default shep other than our usual, default Jane. Aaaannnddd this is why I like that we can customize Shepard. The same thing would have happened if they'd only just announced Sheploo - you know it. People would be saying 'death to blue-eyed shep!' and 'Is this the man who saved the galaxy or a fashion model?' (and we know the answer to that.)

anyhow, too bad the negativity has to happen. i think femshep can and should look like whatever the fans want - and if default becomes a blonde by majority preference, whatever. that's what the customization of the CC is for. i DO object to boob armor, however, as that is degrading and silly.

anyhow. just another reason i love all the custom femsheps here. (wraps herself in the warm blanket of femshep fandom)

What gets me is the idea that pretty girls (and therefore blondes) are automatically labeled as less tough and less "useful" than other women. That they're somehow boring. (And yes, if my husband and every other person of my acquaintance is to be believed, I qualify as pretty.) I really hate this stereotype. WTF? Since when does being blonde mean you have no personality? I'm sure Kyrie would be amused to hear that. I know Meghan would be laughing her ass off. Star's Tris would be equally amused -- and then shoot the jokester.

Denigrating a blonde for being a blonde is no more productive than dissing anyone else for their looks. Nor is it any better than dissing this Shepard for her skin color:

You make a very good point. All this negativity is to be expected when introducing the "official" female Shepard after two games. Everyone has their own notion on what she should look like; one way or another someone's going to get butthurt.

Yep, pretty much. It's like the 'real women have curves' debate. Some do, some don't - they're both still women. Blasting any one physical type is just as ridiculous as holding another as an untouchable ideal.

Ok, um I must say, wtf? Blond Sheps are kickass, just like all others. I mean, really? So she's winning, I voted for her, to be honest. But maybe I am bias, I have a few blond FemSheps, so that may say something in itself, of course. But blonds are smexy, Sage's Kryrie is one of the very first blonds I think of, and I think she's badass hot. My own Lili is blond and kicks ass. My niece's very own Varis Shepard is blond and badass. Really, I see no problem with blonds, I really don't.

I really don't understand the hate for the blonde Shep.  I guess the world at large, like the writer of that article, didn't know about the Twitter voting a few months ago?  I wish I could find the tweets, but BW basically said FemShep would be caucasian (apparently before they decided to give us six options to vote for).  Because of all that, I was fully expecting to see only one FemShep default: pale-skinned, red-haired, and green-eyed.  Is a blonde-haired, blue-eyed FemShep really that different?

While I agree that there are some valid concerns on how BioWare has handled the whole femshep reveal, at least she is finally getting some much deserved recognition. And no matter which Shepard gets picked, once she starts speaking in Jennifer Hale, I would hope the debates would quiet down considerably.

I got half way through the article and couldn't be bothered to read it anymore. It's full of utter rubbish and every negative comment comes down to the fact that Shepard #5 has blonde hair. All six options have more or less the same face shape, the only thing that changes a significant amount is the hair style/colour, eyes and skin colour.

I'm sure if you changed #5 to a redhead or a brunette the same person would be singing her praises.
