Alchera is awesome. It's so haunting and empty, but in the good way. Only thing that would've made it better would have been an extra scene on the Normandy afterwards, of Shepard saying her goodbyes.

Aside from that people chose their sheps for a variety of reasons, the actual hair STYLE rather then their ethnic persuasion or hair color also being a mayor contributor, there are too many factors. Though looking at the sumup I gave uptop should already illustrate how devided voting really is. In the end though there are 4 dark haired options and only ONE blonde, so whoever wants a blonde goes for that ONE shep (aside from possibly picking the hairstyle) while anyone going for a darker haired Shep has four, and a clear 'ethnic' Shep has two choices.

First off, I enjoyed your post. I thought it was really interesting and brought up some points I certainly had not considered. I think you're right that hairstyle matters a great deal to people, plus the fact that there is only one blonde option. That being said, I understand completely why blonde shep is in the lead - people want to see the shep that reminds them of themselves - however, I still wish one of the ethnic sheps would win.  And it's certainly not that I hate the idea of a blonde shep. Hair color is perhaps one of the least important factors (in reality, but not to people voting obviously) because hair can always be dyed a different color.  I would prefer to see Bioware use their influence and power to promote an image of racial equality.

If I could talk to everyone voting I would say that it would be better (and more socially responsible) to vote for someone NOT like them.  Fact: most of the gaming community is male, yet we (most of us being female, and then our male supporters as well) want to see women represented equally. We are the minority, but we maintain that femshep should be seen as equal to maleshep and not a sex symbol.  So who better to not only be the face for female diversity, but also ethnic diversity than femshep?  I would rejoice to see femshep as that symbol - the face that all of us in the minority can rally behind (a stark contrast to the white, jarhead male default).

And I know that most of us will not even play with the default shep. We will use the customization option, we will import our own sheps, and we will have no reason to look at the default femshep.  And therein lies my ultimate point.  The default femshep will be a face of female shep for advertising and to the public.  She, as an ethnic female, has the power to show all miniorties that they are welcome in the Mass Effect universe.  Then, if you are white and want your shep to reflect you (which is perfectly understandable) you can make your own shep.  Most women will probably make their own shep regardless of their own race.  But the important thing is that everyone was shown that they are represented in Mass Effect.  I think it would be a good thing for Bioware, and I think it would be a good thing for all of us.

I'd rather have had it be one of the ethnic ones too tbh, I voted for 4 and 5 initially with a pref for 4, then added 6 to it in responce to ELE's larger image of her. At any rate, yeah they could definately have handled this better but then that's in hindsight I suppose. As it is, and as I've (and others) stated before, I kinda like them all, so meh /care.
One note though, for me picking a Shep in my own image is something I'd earlier avoid then go for hehe, but I reckon that rlly depends on the person.

I do aim to play with the default, as I'm feeling now. And it could have been any of the 6, because well, they all look ace to me.

I think it's a fallacy to assume that we voted for the blonde Shep because she looks like us. I happened to vote for her because she was the only one that even vaguely resembled ANY of my Sheps.

And no, I don't look like Meghan.

If she be renegade or paragon or renegon or paragade. If she's colonist, spacer or earthborn, and ruthless, war hero or sole survivor. If she is  a engineer, vanguard, soldier, adept, infiltrator or sentinel. FemShep is FemShep, and may I say FemShep is a smexy badass soldier who kicks ass while looking awesome. Choose the file and select upload now

scroll down and you will see "Links to share your image"  and copy and paste the "forum code" link into your post and it will appear like this once you post hopefully

(but hey shep sure does have a lot of stress in her life)
