Shepard’s War - The best article on BioWare's femShep marketing campaign.  (IMHO)

Fortunately, it's more about the happy accident that is femshep than the campaign itself.

Great article Jamie, Thanks for sharing.

Nothing would ruin Shepard like ramping up the more traditional ‘girl
power’ elements instead of simply letting her have power, full stop,
stemming from her ability to save the universe twice before breakfast.
Nothing would be more annoying than her losing either her friendly side
or her authoritarian side in some focus-grouped attempt to create
another Strong Female Character. She’s exactly right as she is right now
– the beloved dark horse of the franchise who manages to have her cake,
eat it, smash the plate into some alien ****’s face, then head back to jam with Joker, cheer up Tali, and sell out on the Citadel.

This pretty much sums up my feelings about FemShep. She is not exactly a femme fatale (though she is indeed a 'deadly woman') She isn't a Spice Girl 'Girl Power.' Nor is she a raging feminist. She is a smart, tactical genius who happens to be a woman. She is cousins to Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor (Who FYI happens to be blonde too.) Really she isn't Female Shepard to me, she is Lieutenant-Commander Shepard of the Special Tactics and Reconnaissance, a Special Forces N7, Hero of the Citadel, and the person who is going to give the Reapers a military-issued boot in the ass in ME3.

Ah Crap ToP, searches for screenshot... TADA!

I had this brief tweeter exchange with him:

I think we're relatively safe though. Aside from a couple of moments, Both Sheps have had the same lines in ME1&2, and there's no reason why that should change now. So whatever they write for Femshep must work for Manshep, too. That's a guarantee.

I think that was the whole thing we pointed Patrick when we didn't wanted FemShep "girly". I trust he will take good care of things.

Anyway for those who havent seen it yet, heres a new Jen Hale interview =)

http://www.rockpaper...er-hale-speaks/

RPS: So do you ever play any of the games you’ve voiced for?

Hale: No, I’ve never played a game really, until I was just interviewed for the New Yorker. I think it’s the issue coming out this week or next week. Tom Bissel, who’s a wonderful writer – he wrote a book called Extra Lives: Why Videogames Matter – I guess he mentioned me in there and it ended up being a story, and he made me play Mass Effect. I’d never played a game before!

Made me giggle. xD It's awesome that Mass Effect is Jen Hale's first game ever. Also...

RPS: So do you have a preference?

Hale: I like the one with the freckles!

RPS: But none of them have red hair, and that’s what Shepard looks like!

Hale: Yeah, see, the one with the freckles has a bit of red hair. It may not show up in the artwork, but the pictures I saw this weekend at ComicCon, she’s a red-head.

HALE LIKES REDHEAD SHEP AAAA! I... I think the bitterness just went away a little. <3 And apparently #2 has freckles.

If I make another Shepard, she'll have to be a red-head. That's all I used to make, so I got tired of them, though.

I like that redhead Shep has freckles, I hope it's a feature we can give our Shepards.

Yay David answered my question.   Well not to me, but we both asked the same thing!! :)

"Any chances of wallposters of the FemShep options on Bioware store ;)?"

"not a bad idea. I'll look into it."

Insanity I know!!  :crying:

David Silverman is by far my favourite Bioware employee!

I mean without him and his Twitter would femshep be where she is right now?  Not too sure...  :?  Either way hes listens and has done a lot for the community overall, not just for us femshep fans.   He embodies the Bioware spirit and continues to openly listen to all feedback and suggestions!

David I salute you!  B)

The bumper sticker question.

"My other car has a thanix cannon"
"I'm Commander Shepard and this is my favorite car in the galaxy ... so get off my ass!"
"I <3 Asari"
"Battlemaster on Board"

From that article:

"However, [speaking of the female NPCs in ME] things like outfits and bits of their backstories do frequently make it clear that as a rule, Bioware took the approach of designing them as strong female characters, as opposed to strong characters who are female. This isn’t in itself a problem, don’t get me wrong, but it does instantly draw a contrast with Shepard, who wasn’t[/i] written this way."

Yep. Exactly.

Nice article.

A CC like that would be great! Even more diverse characters and it gives us the chance to make our character even more as we want

That's all some real interesting news. I'm of mixed opinions about the VA becoming more prominent in games. To an extent, it might make good VA's like Ms. Hale too expensive for all but the biggest games.

OTOH, having good acting on the character voices would avoid things like Benny in New Vegas who was flatly voiced.

So the first thing altered was the size of her breasts

Other then that, its a very very impressive Character Creator!! :)

Oh and Bumper sticker Question:    "Warning I have a Fare Meter!!"

Clearly a guy was playing that. I remember watching some other pretty impressive CC, and there was a guy narrating it. The first thing he said was "What kinda breasts do we want? The big ones!"
I laughed.

Wow... I have no words... That's a fantastic CC! <3
But I would not change my imported character in any game. Except for the hair... well, may be...

With a CC like that, it would take me months to start a game. Or I would pay an absurd amount of money to someone to do it for me.
