As for me, in an effort to avoid spoilers and nasty fights on the BSN, I'm not leaving this thread until it closes.

This is my opinion, but much better worded.  I like my femshep thread and I see no reason to migrate to the other one.  :)

Yeah, just be more active. People respond to activity. Post pics, answer femshep questions, ASK femshep questions. We're not a cliq if so we'd shun people who weren't active or be accepting membership to femshep.com.

I dunno what you guys are talking about this thread being clique-ish? I'm probably one of the newest people here and I stepped in and felt at home right away. I could tell from the beginning that this community was tight but I found you guys very welcoming.

@100k- I've never really bothered to visit the Commander Shepard thread in the ME3 forum (out of laziness and general busy with real life-ness), but to build a community where ManShep and FemShep fans can co-exist harmoniously seems like a goal worth pursuing. :) I'll browse through the thread one of these days, see how things go down in there.

Very, very well said, sage.

Here's the thing though -- I have no idea what "giant pressure cooker waiting to explode" means! You seem to think that at some point, a boy is going to bash one of the girls in the thread, and everyone is going to take up sides and bull rush each other.

A "girl" get's bashed and everyone goes to help her ? Where'd you get that from ?

Worst case scenario? A younger trolling member starts a fight with a female gamer and her CC that lasts for maybe two pages. Half a dozen people report him, and tell her not to listen to him. The situation ends. Plain and simple. Mods will intervene LONG before a hypothetical explosion (whatever that means) occurs.

I don't understand why you insist in making this about the forum member's actual gender. If you read sage's post (above yours), you might see it's about a lot more than that.

And just for argument's sake, let's say mods will intervine before hell breaks loose. What's the gain facilitating a volatile situation ? Mods are trying to save up space in the database ?

100k wrote...
If all of the femShep members stick to their ME3 forum thread, then it will probably be like this one. Very intimidating to newcomers (like myself) because it comes off as a sisterhood, or clique.

The clique argument has been addressed many times here. I won't add to it.
All I can say is if there's one problem with an active thread like this the amount of people posting. Having two different groups sharing the same space will only make things worst. More chances of getting ignored in the shuffle

And you know what will happen to the Commander Shepard thread? It'll just turn into the default Male Shepard thread. And instead of it turning into a warzone -- well...just look at our current mShep thread. It's just...dead. Is that how we -- as collective fans of multitude of characters, all sharing the name of "Shepard" -- want to always do things?

If maleshep fans have no interest and no motivation to post in the maleshep thread, well, the thread dies. Just like with any other thread. What's wrong with that ?

Yeeaaah, see, the point is that this kind of thing just doesn't happen among us femShep fans in this here thread.  When was the last time a moderator got involved in this thread?

Oh, right.  Never.

I'm sorry to sound snarky, I know you mean well, but I cannot agree with you.  Those random ****holes that you mention keep running into the aura of warm-and-fuzzies we've built in this thread and do their bug-in-a-Texas-backyard-zapper imitation.  All it takes is one of them getting through and getting a mod involved to ruin the mood, unless the thread regulars are determined to maintain a certain atmosphere.

I don't hope the allShep thread implodes, if it makes it on its own, that's fine, but I want this kind of thread with this kind of atmosphere.  When ME3 comes out, if they still forbid us from making a femShep thread we can transplant to, I'm going to make a femShep.com thread instead (or at least urge Jaime to do it, since he started the website).

Let's all keep this thread warm-and-fuzzy.

Sisterhood? Oh my god, since when does dozen of men on here got transgender without telling us? :P

If you are that wise as you claimed with tons of experience on the net, you should know the more you speak of it, the more it shows what your true intention is. Drop it before it bite you back...

Btw, if you think keep ignoring my comment on you will simply keep me away, you better reconsider. I don't pick fight but I fight back very hard.

You aren't suggesting that only female gamers play femShep and that only females post in this thread, are you? Because that's kind of what it sounds like.

As for this thread being clique-ish... I don't see it. In my experience, this thread has one of the most pleasant atmospheres I've found on many forums about games and game characters. I've never thought it to be intimidating. Heck, I just started posting here one day, making a comment here or there, or photobombing the place, or whatever. Sometimes my comments and pictures are noticed. More often they are not (or at least not replied to). But I've never felt slighted or intimidated here. Folks here just go with it, and more often than not, it seems the general attitude is "If you can't say something nice or pleasant or constructive or funny, then don't say anything at all", which is to say that trolling and insults don't seem to make it far or be tolerated in this thread. And, that's great.

Does this mean I've already been indoctrinated into the clique? :o

Well if being nice and pleasant and sharing experiences about an aspect of gaming that we enjoy means being part of a clique or part of a sisterhood, then sign me up, even if my gender doesn't match. :P

Even Conrad agrees, right, Conrad?

y--y--yes, Commander.

:innocent:

(completely off-topic aside: I hate regional release schedules... All the N. and S. Americans get to enjoy Deus Ex: Human Revolution right now, while the rest of us have to wait 2 more days and some number of hours... it's sitting there on the hard drive, waiting to decrypt. grrrrrrr...)

And Yes! Us euro's always get the short end of the stick >< ALWAYS 2-4 days off with release dates.

And yeah the whole 'you girls' argument is kinda off, funnily everytime such a comment surfaces I've noticed that the number of active men posting at that moment was quite high. I'm starting to feel for them tbh =P

I find this paragrapgh confusing. It comes across to me like you're saying that fans of Male Shepard can't keep their own thread going, so want the FemShep fans to move to a combined thread in order to prevent that from happeneing? If Male Shepard fans aren't creative enough or active enough to keep their thread going then, as is the way with forum threads, it's going to die. Simple as that.

And to add. I won't be returning to the combined thread, thanks, as I want to avoid ME3 spoilers and I also prefer it here. Even if some people want to see it as some kind of intimidating cult.

And for your information, 100k, not everyone who posts in this thread is female.

This sums up my feelings as well, I don't find the thread to be cliquish and I haven't been in the femshep chat for months because I've been trying to avoid spoilers.

My experiences with the thread as a newcomer were the same, I just started posting one day and never felt out of place doing so.

If we're a clique then we'll have to pick a table in the lunchroom to be ours, I suggest the big one by the stairs. That way we can frequently say "Sorry that seat is taken" whenever someone new tries to sit down.

Didn't you do just that to 100K's post? You're selectively taking umbridge to parts of what s/he wrote and missing or not acknowledging large parts of his/her other points. Sure s/he used some bad examples of genderizing; we all fall trap to that sometimes. You're thinking about a femShep supporter and the next minute you're writing about that person (regardless of gender) as "she".

To try and succinctly say what I seem to have not managed 24 hours ago:
  • The combined Shepard thread is not as bad as a lot of us here claim it is.
  • Just because we can't have a femShep thread in the ME3 forum, doesn't mean a concentrated effort should be made to usurp to combined thread. I'll admit I may have read more into JamieCOTC post than what s/he meant.
  • Just because there are manSheps (or Sheploos) being posted in the combined thread, doesn't mean all the posters there are slavering *rseholes waiting for an opportunity to troll our custom femSheps.

As for a general comment or two:
  • Some of us here feel that this thread is a little cliquish (sp.) while others don't. Those that do could not have picked up that feeling out of thin air, could they?
  • Yes, not all posters here are female, but for goodness sake when someone makes a gender mistake on a faceless internet forum, don't be so quick to take offense.

Please also note that I don't get a lot of time to respond here, and if I'm not responding to your response to my post (sometimes for up to 48 hours even if it happens to be on a Friday) doesn't mean I'm ignoring you. I say this because this specific post might stir some responses I might not be able to attend to before tomorrow (my local time).

I might come off a bit harsch in the next bit, but i've heard your argument before, and it annoys me:

If I choose not to expose myself to possible negativity with reason, that is my right.
I personally think shooting off negativity towards people that are (obviously) proud of something is rude, unfeeling and very unnecessary. If someone would specifically say "Hey, this is my Shep, what do you guys think?" then sure give CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. In any other situation it's, in my opinion, uncalled for; internet or not.

In my mind the idea behind a fan thread is the fact we all fall under the same header of loving commander Shepard, whether that is him/her in general or more specifically our own incarnations of it, negativity towards people that come somewhere for the same reason you do kind of breaks the intention of the thread doesn't it? I don't think I'm wrong here.

The negative toning on this entire forum does my head in anyways.
I couldn't give a ****s handle if it's 'that way everywhere' and we should 'have a thicker skin' when we can choose what we expose ourselves to, and that's what I'm doing.
If everybody wouldn't be such a ****-bag because they think spurting their negative opinions is something that people will appreciate to hear, I wouldn't have to limit myself to the more civil parts of these forums where people treat each other as regular human beings, with real feelings and all that jazz.

Now this is all I'll say about this issue.

No problem. Posted Image I didn't see your reply as harsh at all. I don't agree with all your views, but I don't disagree with all of them either. Just to let you know, as I owed you a direct reply (even if it's a day late).

Compared to what Jane looked like at that point, I don't see a lot of renegade scars on the Shepards in this thread. Are they all a bunch of vain women who always take Chakwas up on the 'corrective surgery' option? Or are they all paragons of (lost) virtue?
