agreed. chan is adorable

<3^_^

btw, I never see pics of Chan from ME2. Do you have any, fireeye? or is she me1 only?

I only play ME1.  I found that I don't enjoy ME2, gameplay, characters, or story, so I consider ME2 discontinuity.

Besides, I can play it as a dream or as a near-death experience, but if I try to play ME2 straight with her, she'd rather shoot herself than go with Cerberus.  Playing ME2 with an empty character gets depressing fast.  :crying:

@ fireeye - /sadface

i can see that, though. i had to resort to fanfic to try and explain to myself why shepard was still the same person from me1 that i had come to know and love. and i'm still explaining, so, there you go.

i find i 'headcanon' a lot of stuff since everything to do with cerberus is crap. i sometimes forget that my conspiracy theories about cerberus are not actually from the game, i've so come to think of them as canon.

Indeed.  And I think you do a really good job of it, for what it's worth.  ^_^

Personally, I started off with a mentality of "Okay, it's not great, but I think I can work with this" and tried to make sense of things, but the more I tried, the further away from canon it got, so eventually I figured I may as well just do my own thing consistent with ME1 rather than try to reshape huge blocks of ME2 until they were barely recognizable.

I do have a ME2 XBox completed save, on the off chance I change my mind and ME3 turns out to be my type of game, but I'm trying to withhold judgement until I hear more about it.

Yeah I ran into 'WTF?! My paragon, solo survivor, Alliance loyalist would never work with a black ops organization!' thing. They really should have explained why she would do something like that better. At least have Shepard say, "I hate you, you hate me, we would probably shot each other if we in the same room but bad stuff is happening too innocent people so fine...******..."

well, @ fireeye, red, i cannot imagine the sole survivor oversight. i had to go colonist partly to explain joining cerberus. but that sucks that ME2 pushes one whole background into that position.

i just keep wondering what chan would look like in some of the me2 shots, is all... :)

changing the subject, i had someone respond to my youtube vid with this comment that they thought not typing out "female shepard" was lazy. i also saw another post somewhere where someone called it insulting and sexist.

dunno about you all, but i always took it to be a fond nickname.

i replied saying:

"FemShep" is actually a term that fans use on purpose. It's not meant to be lazy or disrespectful - on the contrary, it's a term of endearment and/or respect. It's a nod to the fact that Female Shepard is more than just the girl version of the default character. She's a character in her own right, however you might design her looks or play her in game. Thanks to Jennifer Hale and the BioWare writers, she is both avatar and character. She is FemShep, our favorite hero. femshep.com"

^ had to squash in the plug for the site to do space restrictions.

anyhow, wondering your thoughts? i guess i came to the term 'femshep' here with the fans, so i think of it as a fan thing.

Just finished my last ME2 run (or have I? =p). I imported an old paragon game from ME1 and just kept playing her as a paragon, mainly to hear the other side of arguments, to make choices that I hadn't done in other games (turned in the evidence on Tali's father and lost her loyalty, for one). I also romanced Garrus because he was the last LI left. If I have any regrets about this playthrough, it's romancing Garrus as a paragon. I felt that I'd groove with Garrus a lot better on a renegade. (I almost switched to him on my first game until Kaidan surprised and impressed me at Horizon.) Maybe I'll redo Garrus' romance after the holidays with a character that looks suspiciously a lot like my canon, time allowing. =p

Edit: Hmm. I do recall not liking "femshep" when I first heard it. It originally felt like a flippant term, but after seeing it as part of board culture, the word seems normal and not at all insulting. If anything, it probably brought more attention to playing as a female Shepard in a good way. Definitely didn't like the early trend to try to call female Hawke a femHawke because it felt like it was infringing on a mass effect term. Go find your own DA lingo! =p Much prefered her being called Lady Hawke as it kept that character feeling unique and separate from femshep, if that makes sense. No problems with femshep but I do remember my early irritation with the term so I understand any kneejerk reactions others may have.

Edit 2: I had typed this post up while waiting for end credits to finish rolling on ME2. Came back to find all the fishes in my tank dead after the suicide mission.

The irony is he misspelled Shepard... *slow clap*

About the solo survivor background, it always bugged me to no end when you talk to Miranda about Cerberus' questionable past: turning colonist into husks, using rachni, putting biotic children into camps, etc, you can't say anything about your unit. "What the hell did you do to Toombs?" "Why did you do this to me and my unit?" etc.

@Fireeye, Chan is freaking adorable. Seeing her in ME2 would be interesting, but I totally get why you aren't a fan.

@Fire that makes me sad. Even with my most pro alliance (spacer) Shepard's they feel slighted that the council and allaince deny everything that happend in ME1 about the Reapes. I R Sad we no see Chan in ME2. T^T

I've considered making/hacking a run as far as Horizon just to nab me some Kaidan hugs.  And it can be somewhat interesting if played as Shepard's Total Subconscious Nightmare From Hell (granted, I probably would have added some fluffy man-eating bunnies somewhere or something).  So maybe someday.  Just not today.

Re: "FemShep."

I kinda get the notion that it could be regulating her to "the other Shepard" if you were to just call Male Shepard "Shepard," but I find "DudeShep" and "FemShep" useful distinctions, especially anywhere "Shepard" would be bring up the mental image of Sheploo.

"You expect me to work for who?!" -okay, Colonist Ruthless, though she's trying to get over the Ruthless part.

Cerberus has a history of experiments biting them in the butt. Why not the Lazarus Project?

@fire

This is how I put my Shepard through 'working with Cerberus', she works with them base on the following thought:
1)There are human in need of help, so she help them from the resources she has in hand
2)She doesn't feel it is a payback for Cerberus to resurrect her, because Cerberus needs her as well, so they are even
3)By any chance if there are hard evidences which can take down Cerberus, she will gives those intellengce to Anderson, not Alliance but Anderson since she can trust him
4)She is confidence to somehow take over the ship if she plays the chess right
5)Threat from reaper is too great that she couldn't just ignore, nothing will likely survive if she acts stubborn on her morale/loyalty. The needs of many out weight the needs of a few or the one, right?
6)She wouldn't do anything as mention as above if it isn't Miranda told her there is none control chip inside her

That was how I pull it off from working with Cerberus, or I should say she is actually using Cerberus to carry on her fight against reaper

So here you go :3

ME2 - There wasn't enough confrontation between Paragon Shep and Cerberus. I can't recall where I read it, but one of the devs responded to that fact in a very roundabout way. "You couldn't really confront Cerberus in ME2, but in ME3 you get to fight them." (or something like that).

femShep - It's just a description to differentiate between the male and female Shepard. I don't get why people would consider it lazy or demeaning. That said, I think it has become very symbolic descriptive term. As Gilsa pointed out it probably helped the "cause" to have a quick reference term for female Shepard And for the record, Gilsa, I agree on femHawke. I like LadyHawke much, much better.

femShep is also Jennifer Hale approved.
