Indeed. Here is the definition I am applying here:
b : expressive of affected, unwarranted, or exaggerated importance, worth, or stature <pretentious language> <pretentious houses>
They are similar, but I was criticizing the act, not the individual. For example:
"Sable Phoenix was being pretentious." This is what I am saying.
"Sable Phoenix is arrogant." This is not what I am saying.
If I remember correctly you actual words were " I could hear your pretentiousness from across the internet". That implies that the vastness of the web was no match for Sable's attitude -- which implied that she had quite a lot of attitude, which gave the impression that you were telling her that she was being overtly arrogant/pertentious to the point of bellowing her high class and status.
In such a case as this, the the act of Sable being pretentious is completely tied with her individuality -- as you cannot have one without the other -- in most people. Therefore, I concluded that you were calling her (and everyone who made similar choices) arrogant, and that their reasoning for doing so was petty.
I then told you that you could just as easily try to copy her, and in so doing make your own masterful creation, even if not completely accurate, you basically said that making your own creation would require "jumping through hoops" -- which implied that opening up the CC and working for a few minutes to a few hours was a task of incredible difficulty. Later, you seemed to belittle the apparent difficulty of these actions by saying that in the end, it was litttle more than numbers and letters.
So you'll understand if some of us are angry that you couldn't just say your piece like many other posters -- even those that shared your opinion, and let it go. Arguing hasn't yielded the code that the other guy wanted, and its not going to make others want to give you their codes more. Arguing
has, however, yielded a surprising number of members who are willing to share their codes with the public -- and some who are willing to share with people they like/trust.
Huh...guess this thread is pretty "encompassing", since it encludes a plethora of
both kinds of people.
