You missed the point the point is we are all happy with the default Jane and we didn't need her to be changed into a
constipated looking Barbie doll who looks like she would cry at the first sign of battle because she broke a nail.
And I did mention before we only really have seen concept art and promotional art I said I might like her in game appearance but I haven't see it yet, we all know in game models look completely different to the artwork.

Right well, in my opinion she doesn't look like that at all. It's also rather offensive.
The point was the negativity around her is pointless, waste of time and energy, there's a CC for a reason.
So why rage? What's the point? None.

You say I am  raging but what happens if they change the default male Shepard to some one who looks like well vega or someone who is much more muscley and they did a vote on who finds him the most attractive. I admit Sheploo is attractive but least he looks like he fits the roll.
They could just dressed up the old Femshep instead maybe give her new hair and a little more colour. What outrage me the most is that they put her to a vote and the only reason why they did change her was to appeal to teenage boys really, she meant to be 30 but she only looks like she 20ish. Anyway I am done nerd raging criticise what I said if you want.

Yeah, this isn't raging at all.
Heroes are people that stand up when they're needed, they're not selected on what they look like. How she looks doesn't change what she stands for. Anyways, don't want to perpetuate this discussion.

Feel free to elaborate on why you don't like the new generic femshep if you like. i'm listening ( reading ).

I'll try.

I actually don't dislike her. I don't like her. I feel nothing about her at all, really, which I suppose is what I'm saying.

Default Jane was my placeholder: she was the gal that popped up every time I hit the CC and tried to perfect my *own* Shep's look. I never used her, but I kind of got used to seeing her as 'that shepard gal'. i was sad her design did not seem as well-thought-out as male shep. she always struck me as a little too, um, 'forgetable' is the word i want to use. she didn't have the oomph i wanted. but she WAS jane all those years.

MyShep is my own (<--not sure I like that abbreviation, but there it is). In my case, that's Kyrie, and I'm growing fonder of my renegade alt, too. But MySheps are mine. I'm never going to see them on a cover. No one is going to know them but me and perhaps the people I share them with might care to know them. But I really don't care if they ever get recognized. What I *do* care about is that there is enough RPG in the bioware games for me to flesh them as characters and enough and graphic design goodness to make their looks a good counterpart to their personalities.

^Since NONE of that will ever translate to a marketing blip or a trailer or whatever, I don't pay much attention to the marketing. I read a Kotaku article that pointed out what's best about bioware games NEVER translates into their trailers. it's the hidden stuff you could never market or even explain to non-fans that I adore (mordin singing gilber and sullivan; bullrushing al-jilani at last).

So no matter what shep they pick as poster girl, It's not shepard to me. not really.

Custom Sheps are often amazing. Even if I like my shep best, and her story *is* shep's story to me, there are so many awesome custom fan creations - ESPECIALLY for femshep, who never really had a sheploo-type following of the default jane. As i peruse the galleries of femsheps, deviantart, and yes, even playing a bunch of these gals in recording that femshep vid, it struck me how much care and love went into the development of those femsheps. their personalities informed their graphic design: they were painstakingly crafted in the limited CC over dozens of playthroughs in some cases. the time and effort shows. each of them ARE femshep - they are a take on the woman that femshep might be and how the galaxy shapes around her. it's written on their faces, and it really, REALLY shows.

NewShep was designed by committee. (like a camel)  No, not even that. She was picked by hordes of people - many of whom do not even PLAY as femshep. many of them were men who openly said things like 'she's hot' and 'i'd hit that.' when voting. then the outrage was that the blonde, fair shep won the first vote (the horrors!) and since that was too barbie-like and not soldierly enough (and really, what did we expect given the comments of many people voting) a re-vote was held to determine coloring. hence we pull back to redhair/greeneyes defaultish jane.

now, don't get me wrong. new jane does look good. only, frankly, she should have gotten this attention from a design team years ago and NOT have been subjected to a vote.

That is my opinion. I am not trying to say the result is not a nice-looking shep. I am also THRILLED at some recognition for femshep. Only a vote-in beauty contest, on facebook, voted by people who largely would rather 'nail' femshep than play as her or acknowledge her as a legitimate version of shepard. well, frankly, the whole thing left me thinking... Meh.

It's amazing femshep is getting recognition at all, given how sci-fi shooter games usually market women. But still, it was hardly the great step forward for women protagonists in video games that it could have been.

Also, the resulting fan art - the one where NewShep is falling back on her butt - well, i wasn't so impressed.

Image IPB

She looks hurt and pissed off. It's hardly the 'I'm always standing and I never fall look at how many guns i have' image that Sheploo always projects. Think about it: you put Sheploo in that pose and he'd look like a wuss. Put femshep in and it's...sexy? Bah.

So, there. that's my 2 cents/five bucks, whatever.

I don't dislike HER, but I was less than blown away by the progressive manner in which she was spawned. I was not a huge fan of default jane from before, but neither did I dislike her.

In short, this new jane is not shep to me. All the custom femsheps are. And to me, MyShep is always the 'real' Shepard.

Well, we're pretty much on the same page. the only difference between us is that my canon has the former default face[ that i wish i could customize (eye and hair color; chin)] other than that i love how she looks. i do have a bunch of other femshep with cc faces though.
But i see the point you make about the new default and more or less agree.

Well, even though they changed the 'default' your import will still be the old one and from what I've heard, imports will be (parially) editable in ME3.
I'm rather pleased with that.

as long as i can name her Archibald, i dont really care if people like her or not, but i must say that the pic they released conveyed what it would like. by picking a redhead, they already locked in the fact that guys would love it(because all men inherently have a redhead thing), and with the posture and tone it perfectly sets up that, yes this person is attractive but also about to shove her hologram blade(seriously, how does this work? hardlight? mass effect fields? a wizard did it?) up some geth's syntho-pooper. why i dont really get why people will hate on it, i know fuming will occur, but honestly the only people who roll default are dudes who just want to roll a femshep to see if the convo system is much different. so, meh no real need to hate on it, because everyone will be rolling their own stuff

because you making so many assumptions your argument seems if not flawed, at least very questionable; it could hold if backed by actual facts [regardlesss of my opinion on the subject].

Its funny that you took that post seriously sense, you know, Lish used the words 'syntho-pooper' in his post.

Legion:  "Shepard-Commander, please clarify the term 'geth syntho-pooper'."

H. Shepard:  "Ummm... Well, it's..."

Legion:  "Geth do not have the need to excrete solid waste.  That is an organic function."

H.  Shepard:  "It's more an insult than anything else."

I've said this before, on the Reaper-butt thread. For Synthetics, waste management is a crucial issue often overlooked by the organic community. A 'geth syntho-pooper' may seem humorous now, but when waste gasses and power supply exhaust build up, it can produce an explosive result if not vented carefully.
Therefore, I humbly request Geth and Reaper toilets in ME3.

Re: the "fallen down" bit.

Odd, I like that image of Shep (Fem or Bro) hanging in mid-air as the platform in the Council Chamber falls out from underneath her or him. Then the "oh... this is going to suck" look as Saren's corpse turns into RoboSaren. Need more of that in ME3.

There is nothing wrong with playing defaults. That's why they are there, after all. It's a matter of preference with everyone. I have a ridiculous addiction for making custom characters. That's why I have 12 Shepards. They are all different and I'm attached to every single one.

As for red-heads, they can be known for their fiery tempers (my Aunt automatically comes to mind). Or maybe it's the Irish, not sure in my family. Haha.

Speaking of red-heads, I'm doing a playthrough with my Adept atm:

I didn't realize the default FemShep looked that good in game.

Still wish she and the new FemShep were customizable in the CC. Well I'm assuming the new one isn't since the defaults never are.

I really hope ME3 lets up uploads our Sheps to the BSN so we can use them as our user icons like you can with the DA characters.
