There is nothing wrong with playing defaults. That's why they are there, after all. It's a matter of preference with everyone. I have a ridiculous addiction for making custom characters. That's why I have 12 Shepards. They are all different and I'm attached to every single one.

As for red-heads, they can be known for their fiery tempers (my Aunt automatically comes to mind). Or maybe it's the Irish, not sure in my family. Haha.

Not always fiery I have red hair and I only rage when some one calls me ginger hate being called ginger my hair is not orange thank you.

Where in that comment did I say 'always'? I said 'can be', and I was talking about my own family... not you.

Anyways, moving on...

Female Shepard is awesome, because her personality and what she represents shines through. That's what I love about her. Sage pretty much summed it up for me.  There are few games where I get to play a badass female character I can shape to my own liking.

Anyways, I'm going to go play Mass Effect, enjoy myself and stare at Thane longingly.

*ahem*  Did I say that out loud?  :?

Carry on.

Are you using the default Jane's facial texture, by any chance, though? I think she does look remarkably close to her.

By the way, I'm with those who said FemShep is a rare gem in today's games. It's hardly so easy to catch such a compelling female protagonist these days. The last I remember was Heather (Silent Hill 3) and Jill (Resident Evil 3), but other than that, not much. Faith from Mirror's Edge is an honorable mention, too.

My Adept was created in the CC, no mods at all.

They have the same hair.  XD  Other than that, I don't see that much of a similarity.

This is Jane:

Aislinn Shepard has the RED hair where Jane has the 'natural' red. Some would call auburn. She also had the number 5 eyes (I think that is the number) where Jane has 7. Not to mention they are also blue. Aislinn is so lovely, you're going to share more pictures of your explosive adept.

As for "pissed off ginger," it is what Jennifer Hale said about the New Jane when she seen her final look. "She's a pissed off ginger, and she's got a few freckles, which I love."

I toyed with modding my characters once or twice, but both of my mainsheps are pure CC, no gibbed tweakage. Although Mara did wear green versions of TIM's eyes rather well.

That is the point that i've been trying to make; only her hair and mouth are available in the cc. all of her other features are unique and cannot be replicated.

@AkodoRyu: is there a 2D/3D software that you like and would recommend ( body's anatomy; faces ) - that isn't too expensive and fairly accessible.(i'm familiar with 3d max but would not mind trying something else).

I've noticed that a very large part of this community seems to be playing ME on the PC. My question thus is, to what extent does the "Origin client may be required for playing ME3" (like it does for BF3) thing bother you?

Not, ME2 only needed to be connected to activate DLC, and apparently SWTOR doesn't need to be linked to Origin at all.
Plus I can't be assed to worry about it, I want to play ME3 so /care
How about you?

Heh. Serves me right posting a question last thing (local time) on a Friday afternoon.

I have ME3 on my wishlist at my local online retailer. I feel strongly enough about Origin's invasiveness to not buy ME3 at all if it (the invasive client software) is required in any form whatsoever. I also won't buy it for the 360/PS3 either. By giving my money to EA for ME3 (of any platform) if the Origin client is required for the PC is telling them that I find that kind of business practices okay.

So I'm hoping that like SWTOR it won't be required, as I do have a vested interest in ME by this point.

When you register your game on the Bioware site it's automaticly linked to Origins aswell in an indirect fashion, I don't see them having a need for an ingame 'live-connection' unless you need anything validated like the DLC and multiplayer.

It wouldn't be logical to me a predominantly single player game would require you to be connected to the internet. For some features sure, but not 100% of the time.

But yeah, we'll have to wait and see.

I'm not really an advanced user myself, but Blender is free, also open source, I'm using one of the older versions for editing, but I'm only porting models that are already rigged, so I can barely call myself an, uh... a person credible to recommend anything. Yet Blender has a lot of plugins and is enough to create/render/animate a complete 3D object.

And xNormal for textures. Also DAZ Studio 4 is for free atm.

Proportions changed a lot (and skin colour a bit since original looked a bit too pale in some light). It might not be obvious but the face code looks a lot different.

<-- Almost-default Femshep was not amused with voting choices.

I'm not sure if I'll get the Femshep box. Eventhough I never play him, Manshep looks cooler than the new Femshep...

i have a sheploo kristian that i will import. i will probably give the new generic* jane a try too. i just wish they weren't that many bullpup guns in ME 3. they will cramp deirdre's style.

*Feel free to elaborate on why you don't like the new generic femshep if you like. i'm listening ( reading ).

I'm all for the attention Femshep got. However what I don't like is the fact that old default Femshep looked like a somewhat older and experienced actual commander. For once the main female character of a game didn't have to be a pretty young thing, since serious, how often does that happen?
Then there were votes and all you could pick were 18-year old [insert hair colour and length] Barbies with a gun. The reasoning for this is obvious, but it does make me think if making a strong female main character was really anywhere on the checklist.
Manshep looks like a tougher badass than he was in ME1, but Femshep stepped in a time machine.

ps: No offense to anyone with young Femsheps.
pps: I am well aware of the fact that it's all "just" about the coverart.
ppps: I don't hate the new Femshep, but sometimes want to leftclick the people who made her.

Fighting, lying, and plastic surgery work wonders in maintaining youth. Besides, I'm quite sure that for any real media appearances, Shep would get stage type makeup. Real Life fighter pilot Lt. Kara Hultgreen got her call sign of "Revlon" after one of those episodes.

OTOH, I can now see many FemSheps complaining about the "Shepard's Story" movie being made about them: "Damn it, I never looked that good. And she's got ******'s almost as good as Miranda's for pete's sake! How can she run in those shoes? I should have never consented to that!"

Maybe it's my decrepit age catching up on me, but 29/31 looks young nowadays.

(That and human lifespan in Mass Effect's time period is supposed to be up to 150, so maybe that involves a treatment that slows down aging like prolong from the Honorverse.)

Yes, it's been a gradual process over the centuries. It's logical that 30 then will not be the same as 30 now.
Healthier living, longer lifespan. Evolution.

Having said that, 30 is far from old, and anyone who thinks being 30+ means your skin is shot to hell and you're wrinkled is just dead-wrong. On the bright side, if you'd ever try to guess someone's age, I don't think the average 40+ year old would mind you thinking they're 10 years younger.

Saying femshep doesn't look old enough to pass as a 30 year old makes asmuch sense as the following:

Assuming the average male is bald by 40, a similar statement would be to claim that all males past 40 are bald and using a model of a male that's NOT bald supposedly past 40 is unrealistic.

As to the old default, she was just flung together if you ask me, she looked good yes but definately wasen't a beauty queen per say, because she doesn't follow beauty standards in therms of proportion and spacing of facial features. Asmuch as that makes her look more realisic, it was also (as i'm guessing) not done on purpose. She just got little attention.
Now she is being well-designed and like Sheploo (who was sculpted after a dutch male model), she is now also getting a makeover agreeing with beauty-standards.
This is both logical, and on equal footing with Sheploo. Wether we pref this over the old default is something else altogether. And as to her looks, it's different, but in no way unrealistic for the pure fact everything is possible.

Soldiers (or anyone for that matter) don't have to look like they had an unfriendly incident with the front of a speeding vehicle.
