It's overly simplistic (and IMO, a tad childish) to blame lack of sales on one aspect of VG.

Yes, that was quite a herp derp response.
Shepard is not impressed.

No Halo for the PC, but Fallout:New Vegas will be out soon. Looks like I might enjoy that one. I wonder how the female PC has been taken care of in that game. I don't expect great cinematics, but I do expect a great sandbox RPG.
Unlike in Mass Effect where it might take me hours and hours but I'll still pull it off, I cannot design attractive people in a Bethesda (or Bethesda-inspired like this one) RPG to save my life. Male or female.
Those linked sliders are damn frustrating. And good lord, the tiny little blurry image we get of our toon in Fallout 3? <_<
Hope Obsidian came up with something different. Still gonna buy it though.
Same issue. Hope if they make elder scrolls five they'll actually make the humanoids in it attractive...
Cant wait for new vegas. If fallout had romances, it would very nearly verge on perfection.

No Halo for PC? Oh well, won't be getting that.
Fallout: NV - Preorded the CE. I played both male and female in Fallout 3 and honestly there wasn't much of a difference. I think the Dad gives you a different pet name depending on gender and the female gets hit on a couple of times, but that's about it. Oh yeah, you wear a dress rather than a suit and tie when in civvies.
I don’t expect much difference in NV as I think Obsidian is trying to stick as close to Bethesda’s vision as possible. And, yeah, the character creation is retarded.

To be fair, FemShep isn't that great either when it comes to character animations. Wearing a dress and trying to walk is awful. So, my FemShep never wears that, unless the Kasumi DLC forces it upon her. If something needs to get attention in ME3 then that is it.

Still I am interested how she evolved this time, Jamie. Well, we know for sure after release. Wasn't the skin color of your family matched in FO3? Did't try that, but I thought I read something about that. Nice touch.
Yeah, it was. Will be the same for DA2. I did a little digging on NV and apparently there will be both male & female prostitutes in the game. No romance, but heh, it's Fallout.

Dragon Age: Origins, while a very different game, at least did a good job distinguishing between the genders through plot and dialogue. If ME had no VA of the main characters, there would barely be any difference at all. That’s one of many concerns I have about DA2 going to a default character ala Shepard. But that’s another thread.

Am I the only one who liked the Fallout 3 character creator? I tried to get the Lone Wanderer to look like a younger version of my FemShep. I guess I partially succeeded.
Pretty close.
Fallout 3 character creator was LEAGUES ahead of Oblivion, at least. I actually ended up using one of the defaults. The great thing about FO3 (and Oblivion, and New Vegas when it comes out) is it has a huge modding community. Pretty much anything I didn't like in the vanilla games had a mod to change it.
Fallout 3 did a good job with their female PC (Black Widow perk!
I don't think it's a good comparison for a game like Mass Effect though. For one, you don't really get a defined character, and it's a sandbox game so you aren't hemmed in by story. Mass Effect requires Shepard to fit within certain parameters and within the story. She is a defined person whereas the PC in other RPGs is not.

I think I read that DA2 Lady Hawke gets her own animations/rigging. Things already looking better for her than FemShep I think. There's that, and we got a screenshot. So, progress. Yay.

Well it is closer to release time for DA2. I think more devs for that game are online and gathering feedback. So in a few months from now, I'm pretty sure we can rally the troops to try and get the same.

As a male gamer I've never understood why they stick males on game covers if they try to target male audience. I really prefer to watch female heroine if one is available and I also prefer to play female heroine if it's possible.rynluna wrote...

I think Buffy series is major reason for that. There is just something really enjoyable to see female heroine beating the hell out off bad guys and saving the world.

In that I'm sick of seeing Whedon's 100 lbs. model-thin girls using martial arts to take out combat trained, fit men in fair fights.
Granted, FemShep's badassery is much more sensible and established than any other contemporary popular female heroine I can think of, save Summer Glau in Sarah Connor Chronicles since she's a cyborg.
/that's a Whedon rant though, not a criticism of women heroes in general or Femshep
//lotsa ways to write strong female characters without dropping suspension of disbelief out the window

Look at Kasumi's loyalty mission... Shep is not a woman who likes dresses and high-heels. She's not going to move like a runway model or society princess. She probably prefers a sipping whiskey and the occasional Neo-Cuban* cigar to gossip and lip-gloss.
1) Obviously, it's an RPG, your FemShep can like the latter just fine and it's no skin off my nose, I'm just giving my impression of the character.

It's funny you mention Buffy, because Joss Whedon's persistent reliance on the Amazon feminine heroic archetype has actually contributed to general preference for ManShep.

I actually don't care much for Whedon... his heroines seem to kick a lot of butt in a highly unbelievable manner, right up until he needs to throw some drama in and then they're helpless for just long enough to get to where he wants to be in the story. Bleah.

what is everyones issues with Halo's story???? it's very good for an FPS it jsut gets outshined because after a few weeks everyone is all about achievements and multiplayer, if Mass effect had multiplayer I doubt everyone would be making multiple shepards and jsut shooting at everyone elses. /rant.NamiraWilhelm wrote...
Halo reach as female? Wow, not sure if i'll like the story but i might have to give it a shot
I also wish female pcs got more attention, being able to be female makes games a lot better for me (being female). Mass effect did after all have a default female.
Also, i feel we're so lacking of heroines. And the sad thing is we're likely only having femshep for one more adventure. I just wish we could have a woman as admirable as femshep, with adventures that spanned the likes of what lara croft has etc.

Indeed, I already have my next screenshot dump ready. I'm just cunningly waiting for the next page to start. Because I'm evil.
