Two different teams with different project leads, Mass Effect's leader is of course Casey Hudson while Dragon Age is headed by Mike Laidlaw. They're aware of each others work but each team has a very different feel to them and I don't know how much they concern themselves with what the other guys are doing. Besides I believe EA largely runs BioWare's marketing department now . . .

Dang. Well, here's hoping that the ME team takes a few cues from the DA marketing team.

I plan on getting loud in the coming months.

Roar!!!

I also need to start reading the Lady Hawke thread to see if I can gather ideas.

Oh, I see.  Thanks for clarifying this.  So, do you expect 'business as usual' with ME3's marketing?  By this, I mean that it will be the same as ME2's marketing (i.e., absolutely 0% FemShep).

My assumption would be the mainstream marketing push won't change when they ask Blur to make a CG trailer for ME3 Sheploo will be in it, period. All the videos will star Sheploo and the majority of the screenshots will have him in it. That's just the marketing fact, he's the "brand" of Mass Effect and they will use him as such. Dragon Age: Origins has a "default" Warden called Malcom he is in every screenshot of the game and all the trailers dispite not being a preset in the actual game.

The Dragon Age team in general seems more involved in the community of their game, the Mass Effect team seems a bit aloof they don't make regular appearances in the forums or answer questions from the fans. However if any change is going to happen it will be on the smaller community like these forums, since there the risks are much lower financially. Posting a screenshot from the latest build and having a dev answer some technical questions is something EA's big marketing department won't care about, to them that's pointless. However that's the best shot at success, by engaging on a smaller scale you shift the balance of power and probably could see some FemShep stuff prior to launch. That's what the LadyHawke people did, they just made it clear that they existed and they wanted information. It's far easier to ignore a silent minority than a vocal one.

Yeah, I definitely expect all the trailers/marketing vids to have Sheploo in them.

It may then be a good idea to recreate a thread similar to this when the new ME3 forums inevitably open up, after that game is officially announced, similar to what the Lady Hawke fans did for DA2. We may get something for this community on these forums then, as you mentioned adneate.

Exactly don't fight a battle you can't win, asking them to redo a Blur trailer with a female Shepard isn't ever going to be something they'd take seriously. Asking to see screenshots of the female versions of armour and asking if FemShep has her own custom animations and rigging is something they can do and would be hard pressed to explain why they couldn't. It neither costs anything nor spoils anything and doesn't ever have to leave these forums and "derail" their careful marketing scheme that we should point out doesn't do anything for people like us since we don't need to be sold the game we want information about what's different and improved from the last game.

I actually have hope for that plan, then. Just look how large and active this thread is now, and we are in between games. Forum activity will increase immensely when ME3 is announced, so we should be able to draw in even more FemShep fans who will lend their voices to the cause of getting small things like some screens of her prior to ME3's launch.

Well, I thought I would try and re-ignite the discussion over a "better" FemShep experience come Mass Effect 2 DLC's and Mass Effect 3.  I was filled with pride to see that FemShep finally sits proper-like in LotSB.  I hope that this has been implemented into their engine and will stay this way

I've never had a problem with most of FemShep's movements, they mostly suit the character as presented, IMO.

I believe we still need to voice our concerns over her movement animations though.  She had her own in Mass Effect 1, why didn't they take the time to do this for her in ME2?  I doubt we will ever get an answer to that, but I hope that if we continue to try our best to be heard, that we will see her walk like she did in ME1.  I have to admit that I am nervous about how this will go.  I read in an article that they have already started working on ME3.  I know that even months before this thread was conceived, I saw many forum goers express their dislike of her "hunchback walk".  I'm only nervous because I hope it is not too late for us to take action.

Sheps of both genders have a really strange walking/running motion when they don't have a weapon at the ready -- male and female Sheps all duck their head and look a little to the side when running, for example.

Yep, the good thing is we are establishing a good base of operations here and in the group. I guess I shouldn't worry so much! ; P

Your campaigning and advocating of FemShep has not gone unnoticed, ryn! I mean, just look at how the thread was mentioned and linked to in that published article that was posted recently. People are noticing, so I don't think you should worry about your support for FemShep and Jennifer Hale being insufficient. Not in the slightest!

Femshep for life. I could never play a male shep; I got bored of games with male grunt protagonists so long ago. Now it's femshep (with her Shep-Miranda-Samara squad of course) and Samus saving the universe ;)

And of course my female Nerevar from Morrowind.

More female protagonists for the win.

Truth be told, the movement animations don't bother me enough that I can't play the game but I seriously miss how she had her own unique animations in ME1.  I still think it is an important issue that needs to be adressed, as I've seen too many people on here address it themselves.

The difference between this group/thread and other character threads is that we do not just support a single character or crew member, but we support half the face of the game. The poll is doing great and FemShep seems to be very popular, but there is a movement on these forums that for some reason wants to make life for FemShep very hard and takes pleasure in that. I want to urge you to spread politely what rynluna posted several hours ago to the forum in the future. Of course having fun conversations about FemShep like here in this thread is certainly not to be forgotten, but looking after the goal of having a better FemShep in ME3 is something we need to do more often. Be creative about it and jump in when you think you can. I hope you'll understand what I mean. FemShep is cool now, but a better FemShep in ME3 would really be the crown on the last part of the trilogy.

I am for a well done femshep in ME3, with specific motion and no more limping!

I'd also like some unique FemShep animation for ME3. The way she sat down on her bed during the LotSB DLC was a start though.

Have a FemShep:

Well said.  I need to try and be more active in other threads where this issue crops up.

Nice articles, Jamie!  They both provided a good read.

I think fighting a giant space ogre unarmed is more her style.

Haven't been on tonight, so trying to catch up. I got bored so I decided to draw Jen (very hastily!)

Anyway in the times its taken me to get through the pages (so nice when a thread makes this much progress!) and what with drawing, its already bedtime!

And to restate the restated: FemShep wallpapers, armour screenies and general acknowledgement for the win! And maybe an action figure, wouldn't mind it being the default, I could keep the helmet on and it would be nice just to have one with the extra plastic on the upper body region you know.

Night all.

There are people who are anti-femshep?  What... how... why? I mean I know this is the internet and so filled with trolls, but still I like to think we live in a relatively enlightened age.

She is looking great, Shotty! (hope you don't mind me calling you that).  Thanks for lending your voice on a better FemShep for ME2 DLC and ME3!

You would be surprised at the things I have read over the several months I've been here but those are not for this thread.  They are not for FemShep's eyes.
