I reloaded after talking with Jacob for the first time. Never talked with him again, except for getting the upgrade. It's not Jacob that puts me off, it's how my Shepard acts around him right from the start, how she leans against the table, the whole mannerism and her voice- no, just no.

I talked to him the other day, before even doing his loyalty mission, then I saw the "I make you nervous?" option and immediately quit the conversation. Never again, Jacob.

It's just so crazy talking to this guy as a FemShep. Zero dignity.

Awww. I guess my FemShep's the only one going to "spill some drinks" with Mr.Taylor. I guess I've built up a tolerance for sultry FemShep.  Not sayin it's good or anything.  Curse these completionist tendencies.

I love Jacob.

My only guess is that Jacob's romance was made for guys who play FemSheps and don't want to romance aliens.  I had no problem with Jacob as a platonic friend, but it was hard actually talking to him to get to that point...I felt like FemShep's tone and posture while just chatting was entirely inappropriate.

I think Kasumi's crush on Jacob (he's perfect!!!) is an in-joke about the complaints about FemShep's tone; obviously he's just so dreamy that our characters could not help ourselves, and we sounded flirty whether we wanted to or not.  Irresistable Jacob is canon!

I used to do that, but now I just pretend I have the friendship convos with him without actually having them.  Of course, in my head, Rachel doesn't sound like she wants to eat Jacob.

They are both excellent, nuanced, intricate and well-written characters. The scene on Horizon does neither character justice at all, and the opinion of any individual that has yet to play ME1 regarding either character lacks credibility, to be honest.

Ashley was/is a grunt; she's funny; hot even (from certain angles); and I almost always took her along in ME1. But when Ashley made her re-appearance in ME2, on Horizon, and it became clear the relationship with her couldn't simply be picked up where we left off, I felt relieved. Why? Because I think Bioware did the right thing.

I say Ashley's refusal to accept the new Shepard, working for Cerberus, is in complete alignment with her personality. Ashley is an Alliance gal (and pro-human at that, and not too keen on aliens); things are pretty black and white for her. Under Shepard, in ME1, she occassionally voiced her somewhat controversary opinions about aliens, but was kept in check by Shepard; and she accepted that, as Shepard was her Alliance Commander. For Ashley to have accepted the new Shepard, though, working for Cerberus, it would have been grossly out of character.

And that's why Bioware is to be lauded for letting the relationship with Ashley die: they made a plausible role playing game, not a  'take whatever hottie you want to the party' game. And that's why I felt satisfied seeing things go nowhere with Ashley. Sure, I felt a momentary pang of sadness, as I had certainly developed some sort of bond with the Ashster, or at least had grown rather fond of her. But when I saw it was over, and realized the reasons why, it felt right. Sorry.

Doesn't mean Ashley can't return in ME3; like once she realizes you're not on the 'wrong' team (in her eyes).

As for Kaidan, by the time folks stopped posting in the ME1 forums, half the people there still didn't even know how to spell his first name properly (Kaidan/Kaiden). 'Nuf said.

Thane is the polar opposite of Jacob, period.

now we only need to find a test subject, willing to romance Jacob

I can't, all my Shep's romance Liara and I could never cheat!  I'd weep for weeks and have to perform self-flagellations in order to remove the guilt.

I agree. Jacob's treatment of Thane during the debriefing didn't help his case either. I trust Thane to have my Shepard's back - Jacob not so much.

This. I can't picture anyone but Liara for my Shep, especially after the DLC. Plus I personally dislike Jacob a great deal so I just get him killed on the suicide mission to spare myself the inevitable facepalms in ME3, harsh I know but it's the only way. I think he should just be replaced with the Old Spice guy in ME3, take the joke to the logical conclusion.

FemShep actually makes a really hawt face when checking them out too during the love scene. 

Jacob's romance lines are terrible. The forced romance is terrible too.
But the worst thing is the guy thinks he's not good enough for Miranda, but good enough for Shepard. Screw that.

I'm hoping for an epic FemShep/Kasumi catfight over Jacob in ME3

This is the only catfight I support...I'm completely against LIs fighting over Shepard.  That I find distasteful.  But Shepard herself getting into one...could be interesting.
