Strongly inspired by this piece of art here (ie. shameless copycatting), and just so happening to restart in ME1 with a neutral military-minded Vanguard I intend to take through the whole series, I had to create a new Sheps. The credit obviously goes to sagequeen for the portraits below. I haven't managed to make a single Sheps I'd like as much as this one since years back when I made my first one for ME1:

Alright, time for me to jump on the bandwagon and show off my canon Earthborn War Hero Infiltrator Paragade femShep.  Yes, I realize she's got the infamous Face Structure #7, but I couldn't make the combination of other features I wanted work together otherwise, and the choices for the nose, mouth and eyes are all among the lesser-used options (especially the equally-infamous Mouth #1).  In my head she's of Arabic extraction, hence the olive skin and aquiline profile.

yup. you inspired me with your marge shep overhaul. i had my original kyrie, an older version, and a new version based on my own face. i merged the three codes again and again until i got it just the way i wanted it. it wasn't enough for me to get a good screenshot or two. i wanted her to look perfect animated from every angle. took frickin' forever. the hubby thought i had gone insane, i think.

Favorite Combat Ability or Abilities:  Singlarity. Barrier. Pistol.
Combat Style: Makes things fly and then shoots them out of the air. Kaidan freaked when his superior officer suited up for Eden Prime with nothing more than an old pistol, but soon changed his tune.

Garrus: urged him not to kill Sidonis; didn't want to aid a murder and didn't think it would really help him cope. felt a little bad for her interferrence, though.
Genophage cure data:  Saved it because Wrex was still around. If he hadn't been, would have tossed it.
Overlord:  Set David free. Hates cages of any kind.
Kasumi: Kept the files. Curiousity caught the cat or something like that.

Personal stuff

Romance:  Kaidan
Why Shepard and her LI are such a great match:  I could go on endlessly about this. Kyrie and Kaidan aren't actually a perfect match, but that's why I love it. Long story is my fanfic (see sig). Short story - both came to see each other as people first - people that aren't completely alike and don't always see eye to eye, but who always treat each other as people. And they're both good at friendship but completely clueless about love. It's funny, actually. And Kyrie finds Kaidan to be completely hot.

Re: Horizon - kyrie is SAD about that, but honestly found kaidan's conviction and principles to be oddly reassuring and kind of...sexy? she derped, because she gets tongue-tied when overwhelmed. she blames cerberus most of all, because she sees them as completely setting her up to separate her from kaidan and the alliance. she is PISSED about that. the Alliance saved her butt twice (Mindoir, reinforcements on Elysium), but the events of ME2 shake her faith in them. she sees the suicide mission as a deal with the devil and is eager to get the hell done with it so she can move on with her life. When it comes to Kaidan, she's kind of ditched her pride and is ready to fight for him. it's one of the many things that makes me like her. 

Best Friends:  Kyrie is aloof (Elysium was not good for her personal life), but really bonded with the SR1 squaddies. Kaidan is her best friend, Ash was also close. Garrus was somewhat close. By the end of ME2 though, she comes to really like Miranda. One ice princess can respect another, in spite of the difference in their wardrobes. As Kyrie told Miri, "You're sort of like the prom queen and I'm the girl who set fire to stuff in shop class."

Personality:  Aloof, icy, but this is a learned trait after Mindoir and Elysium. In really has a very sarcastic sense of humor and a hot-burning temper. Hates injustice of any sort - gets mental about slaving. 

Kyrie also HATES the press. Post-Elysium she got made into the poster-child for the Alliance: everyone expected her to be the pretty face for the recruitment posters sent to the colonies. She responded by going into top-secret special ops missions to stay out of the public eye. She is more baffled than anyone at her notoriety. She really would rather stay out of the spotlight. The whole Cerberus thing just makes her insane.

Three fun facts: 
1)  Three-sport athlete in school: softball (pitcher), basketball (center), and football (running back)  - credits softball with her accuacy in throwing down singularities
2) Coffee addict. Bitoics burn through it pretty easily. also eats MASSIVE amounts of food, but always stays pretty lean and lanky
3) Didn't realize she was vain about her hair until Wilson shaved it off when resurrecting her.

Femsheps walk and animations don’t bother me either I like how she stomps around, gives her more appeal as a solider sure there are some things that had to be changed for example sitting in a dress, which was addressed in lotsb which proves that Bioware listen to us. It's a pain to go through the process of importing ME1 Shepard, then get past the long introduction, then look at the code, then start the game again, import ME1 Shepard, then go through the long intro again, then select custom character, then enter the code, then fix the tiny little mistake ME1 Shepard has .... *sigh* << did i make any sense at all??

The problem is, that code is wrong and has nothing to do with the actual face.

Why do you think so many people hook their femSheps up with Liara? I'm guilty of it too. Doesn't seem to matter if the player is straight or not, but my impression is that the majority of femSheps romance Liara. It just strikes me as interesting and unusual.

class: Infiltrator.  Nothing more satisfying than a good headshot.  ME1 does not deliver, thankfully rectified in ME2.

Mass Effect 1
Mostly paragon: She was not exactly trying to atone for her past as much as distance herself from it as much as possible.  Sometimes violently (she shot Finch at Chora’s Den.)

Threatened Conrad Verner: Partially to make ME2 make sense, partially because she has very little patience for idiots.  Shooting him in the foot in ME2 was hilarious, in the end though she lied to him to spare his feelings

ME1 council dead: Chose to focus on Sovereign, in the moment thought the risk needed to protect the Destiny Ascension was too great.  Came back to bite her in ME2.  Ingrates…

Mass Effect 2
Mostly renegade: save for a few decisions (she set David free in Overlord)

Reasoning: She is quite bitter at being cast adrift by the Council and the Alliance, as well as being forced to work with Cerberus.  Sole survivor Shep is not happy.

Romance: Gar-bear
Why Shepard and him are such a great match:
Teag has some major trust issues.  She learned not to get too close to anyone growing up on earth, and remained fairly closed off after she joined the Alliance, maintaining friendly or professional relations only.  She became involved with Kaidan on the SR-1 (hey it was a crazy time) but was once again burned for getting too close to someone (see: Horizon.)  Because of her history, she isn’t exactly the forgive and forget type.

However, she trusts Garrus.  They share the same ruthless results at all cost mentality (in my Uni Garrus is renegade.) and because he’s not human she believes his feelings are genuine and not driven by ulterior motives.  She didn’t expect to fall in love with him, but came to the realization she can’t imagine not having him around.

Most of her bitterness has waned by the end of ME2, she has reconnected with Liara who is one of her closest friends, she is hopeful for a future with Garrus, she has cut ties with Cerberus (hopefully with some ammo saved up to use against them in the future) and the base is destroyed.  So I’m predicting a return to paragon Teag in ME3.

My response to this will probably be oozing with bias but I'll give it a shot.

I think it has to do with the dynamics of it being a lesbian romance.  Chud can keep spitting his nonsense about the Asari being asexual, but Liara is a woman.  You don't see very many lesbian relationships in entertainment media and it is most certainly a rarity to roleplay a lesbian romance in a video game.  Plus, Liara is just that amazing.  I see both genders, regardless of their orientation enjoy the romance.  The one thing that irritates me is the idiots who think the players romance her for the "Lezzie action".  If you want action, you are not going to sit through both games to get very tame love scenes.  Loading up a 10 minute video elsewhere can give you that.

Edit:  And thanks to everyone who has shared their Shepards backgrounds/stories so far!!  Very interesting!

I will add to this that femshep/liara have amazing chemistry. I'm straight and play the kaidan romance every dang time, but seeing youtube vids of other possibilities, i cannot deny that femshep/liara is awesome.

personally, i think that a lot of it is this: IF you have femshep, who on earth would ever 1) be good enough for her 2) be able to deal with her crazy life 3) be able to attract and retain her attention? in short, who would be a good romantic match for femshep?

liara clearly would. she is more the traditional "feminine" role in the relationship and that suits shep's more traditionally "masculine" role (total gender stereotyping going on there, i know).

me, personally, i like the awkward fit of kaidan/femshep best, just because he's this guy who is so badass and yet slightly old-fashioned, knight-in-shining-armor-type and in any other situation would be the breadwinner, dominant masculine hero in his own right. and yet, he's having to deal with the fact that he felt for a woman who is more badass than he is and as likely to save his ass as he is to save hers (slinging him over a shoulder on virmire always made me laugh and cheer at the same time). and yet, kaidan takes this strange role re-configuing in stride and has the confidence to just be himself and be with shep anyways. i think that's awesome. that takes a very secure man to do what he does and just be himself and let shep be herself and just be together.

Noah understands his passive nature and his “always leaving a way out” –  even if it is sometimes infuriating for her.
Best Friends:  Ashley was. They clashed at first but came to respect each other the more they talked. She took her death on Virmire hard and even though she told Kaidan that only Saren is to blame, she does feel responsible - Ashley was one of her crew and she left her behind.
Now on the SR-2, she likes to keep Thane company in the Life Support – be it to talk or just to enjoy some quiet minutes. Noah also greatly respects Samara. Zaeed and his stories have also grown on her.
Personality:  Noah grew up on Earth and running with the Reds has made her overly suspicious of others intentions and develop a sardonic humour that shows itself at odd times. She can be brash and cold at times.
Three fun facts:  1. Hates the colour orange 2. Had a cat back on Earth 3.Gives her weapons pet names

Why Shepard and her LI are such a great match: Honestly Shepard only initially entertained Liara's affections because it wasn't against Regs but grew to like her, but didn't like the Mirror image she saw when she returned from the dead (Hell lol) so she broke it off with her but said she'd help with the Shadow broker (hasn't played the DLC for her just yet) Jacob on the other hand was a shoulder to lean on when times got tough, not to mention he was a soldier and could relate on how the Allince dragged their feet before it was too late. She also likes his sense of humor and giggled when he said "but the Priiize" and rewarded him for his bravery to sneak into her quarters.
Best Friends: Until horizon Ashely was her go to Gal. but upon meeting Kasumi (and having a shared intrest in Jacob) they clicked, plus she loved the challenge of fighting in a dress. She is also best friends with Wrex and is the only alien allowed to have input on clan urdnot when neccessary.
Personality:  Kallen was always aggressive because of how she lived on Earth, alone with no one to back her up so she basically ran the reds before joining the Alliance to get away from all of it. Torfan was a breaking point for her as she spent a good two weeks in depression after the assault because she let her agression could her judgement and lose 3/4 of her squad until her promotion to XO of the normandy snapped her out of it.since then she's managed to prevent her anger to could her judgement and always preaches getting the job done to her crew but not costing lives unneccesarily.
Three fun facts:  1)  Beat Wrex in an arm wrestling contest on the SR-1 and is now the honorary second in command of clan Urdnot  2)Has plans to take over Cerberus once the Reapers are dealt with and not make it a complete failure of an organization.  3) Even though she broke it off with Liara she still asks her where her little blue daughter is.

Yeah...so I'm mainly a lurker but thought I would give this a shot. Embarassingly enough  I based a Shepard off of me. Just started her play through actually. So I guess my info on her is kind of incomplete. Maybe I should of posted my other character Nyla instead!

Best Friends:  Ashley was a good friend to her, but Garrus was a close second. It was hard for her to make a choice on who to leave behind on Virmire. It's something she thinks about.
Personality:  Projects a real tough persona to all those that aren't close to her. Secretly a huge romantic at heart with a streak of optimisim. Kind of bossy and take charge. Not afraid to get right up there and 'fix' things.
Three fun facts:  1)  Loves to read.  2)  Hopeless romantic.    3)  Loves to bake.

Personality:
Very determined. She might do everything to get the job done but not at the cost of innocent lives.
Very persuasive, she can turn an harmless krogan into a mighty warrior or ****** off a Spectre  to the point that he gets out himself a bullet in the head.

Three fun facts:
1) She loves Brussels waffles. 
2) She sometimes hides in the men's restroom to smoke a cigarette of her favorite tobacco. She threatened several times to unplug EDI.
3) She often organizes headbutt competitions with Grunt and Garrus in the cargo bay.
