she considered herself quite unlucky to get into all this beacon-Reapers mess.

and she considers herself even more unlucky in ME2. her main thought during the game was 'why me?'

so to answer the initial question it's just a ton of bad luck. including the Akuze incident

Edit: okay, i feel like elaborating a bit. i love to roleplay characters who just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. so despite their overall grudgy mood and attitude they do what they do because someone has to do it. this way i escape the usual super-hero picture in my head

Nah, I think Shepard is a walking disaster in ME2. She killed more than twice as many people as she did in ME1.

@ Mash
If you finished the game with her, then she is still a badass.

@FemShep artists

I have started a new project of sorts.  I need some FemShep artists who want to show off their work in this project.  You won't have to do much, I just don't want to say anything here as it's still in its beginning stages but if you PM me, I will give you the details!!

Just wanted to note that "PlayersOnly" works in ME1 too. I bind it under F8 usually:
Bindings=(Name="F8",InputMode=BIO_INPUT_MODE_NONE,Command="PlayersOnly",
Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)
(I broke the line before Control, be sure to unbreak while pasting to BIOInput.ini)
Anyone who's interested might want to know, that "freezing" the game doesn't stop Shepard's face animations, which can result in hilarious/disturbing glitches.

Okay, so I really have enjoyed reading the bios, but I have a question to add to them:

What drove your femshep to become femshep? By that, I mean what is it that drove her to become the one who saved the galaxy - twice? Just dumb luck? Determination? With that is sort of the question of why did she continue on after dying. Anyhow, curious as to what made your femshep become the badass woman she is.

As to the first, if you save the galaxy once, you kinda build a reputation. Enough for Cerberus, at least, to realize Shepard was the one person required to save it the second time (canon).

As to why she continued after dying? Well, why wouldn't she? It's like Sigourney Weaver said when she's was being confronted about having died: "Yeah, I get that a lot." I mean, what do you say to that? All you can really do is live on. And it's not like Cerberus would let her retire just like that. She's got a purpose.

Perhaps I would have like to have seen a bit more internal turmoil from Shepard; after all, you usually only die once, and she was bound to have a question or two (the least of which would not be about the meaning of life). Canon makes it so that she simply gets to have no time to deal with her scars (literally, but also the mental ones, of course): she's simply thrusted into the fray, and more or less forced to move on.

So, as far as my Kira is concerned, she did indeed spent time pondering on the meaning of life after her miraculous resurrection. In the final analysis, though, she realized the magnitude of having been given a second chance, and simply found herself 'galaxy-bound' (mind you, not 'Cerberus-bound' per se) to serve the universe a second term too.

Name
: Danielle Shepard
Background: Colonist / Ruthless
Alignment: Renegade
class: Vanguard
Favorite Combat Ability: Heavy Charge

Decisions, decisions, decisions . . .

ME1 Council:  Despite constantly fighting with them she saved them, has yet to see decision pay off.
The Rachni:  Toast.
What happened on Feros?:  Used grenades until they ran out shot the rest.
Virmire:  Ashley sacrificed, Wrex spared.
Conrad Verner:  Gun in face, plus lots of yelling before hand.
Noveria:  Helped Gianna Parasini take down Anoleis.
Bring Down the Sky:  Shot Balak again and again, she doesn't like Batarians.
Anderson or Udina:  Anderson

Posted Image

ME2 and the Council:  Took it since licence to kill is handy, however she won't follow their orders anymore so once they wise up I'm sure they'll take it away.
The Collector Base: Blew it up.
Suicide Mission casualties:  Thane killed on the attack run and Jacob during the mission.
The Geth:  Re-wrote the heretics.
Tali: Shouted the Admirals down, Tali not exiled.
Genophage cure data:  Mordin shot Maelon, cure was kept.
Overlord:  Set David free.
Kasumi: Made Kasumi destroy the greybox.

Personal stuff

Romance:  Liara in ME1 and ME2.
Why Shepard and her LI are such a great match: It's as much a story of Liara getting stronger and more independent as it is of Danielle learning to be a bit weaker and trust in another someone else. Plus Liara is interested in Danielle as a person, not as a symbol like Cerberus or as a mad dog to unleash on problems like the Alliance.
Best Friends: Prior to ME2 she would have said that she was friends with most of her crew of the Normandy, after being called a traitor on Horizon and generally unwelcome by everyone she's met she's reverted back to having no real friends. Though prior to LotSB sitting down to talk with Samara was the best conversation she had with another person.
Personality: Torfan turned into a bloodbath because of her personal feelings about what happened to her family, the attack was for all intents and purposes suicidal. She's been isolated ever since, having no friends or meaningful relationships since Torfan is all anyone wants to talk about. She's distant from nearly everyone around her, some don't trust her others she pushes away trying to project the image of a model Officer. The galaxy is a cold dark place and any emotion is weakness which in turn leads to death the reason why all things end. However over the events of both ME1 and ME2 between Liara and extraordinary circumstances she's trying to be a better person than she's been.
Three fun facts: (1) Had a picture of the Turian councillor on the wall of the SR1's captain's cabin, she threw darts at it. (2) Wears an Alliance Officer's uniform just to spite the Cerberus crew of the SR2 (3) Has used her Biotics just to pull things over so she didn't have to get up.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Never did one of those, it was pretty fun. Kept me from falling asleep anyway which is a major concern right now.

I used the Mass Effect Wiki biotics talk page discussion of Shepard's secondary eezo exposure for partial inspiration for Gwen's backstory:  http://masseffect.wi...ki/Talk:Biotics

Gwen was fourteen and being bounced back and forth between her divorced military parents when she and her father were in a space shuttle accident that exposed them both to eezo.  Gwen's father developed cancer, and died several years later, while Gwen was seemingly unharmed by the incident, until her biotics manifested themselves at seventeen.  She and her mother, Hannah, both felt horrible guilt about the accident and were already wary of biotics, so Gwen did not want to be trained to use her abilities.  Finally, after going to college and trying to live a "normal" life, she decided that she didn't want her father's death to be in vain, and she followed in her parents footsteps by joining the Systems Alliance military.  Hannah was proud of her daughter, but worried for her, because she knew that the military was not an easy life.  Since then, Gwen has sought to be the best at everything she did, and has accepted that her biotics helps her help people, which has always been a strong driving force for her.

After her death, Gwen has become more focused than ever on defeating the Reapers, because it's the only thing that gives meaning to everything that has happened.  She is still very unnerved by the idea of coming back from the dead, even after destroying the Collector's base, and she doesn't know what to say to her mother, or anyone else from her "former" life.  Keeping her mind on the mission stops her from thinking too much about the other things that she can't fix.

My fan letter to Jennifer Hale:

Hello!

My name is Kathryn and I wanted to tell you that I am a huge fan of
yours. I'm not only speaking for myself but on behalf of the Female
Shepard community!

I first took notice of your amazing voice work in KOTOR. Bastila
has always been my favorite character from that game; I had so much fun
teasing her! When I heard that Bioware was going to make their own
science fiction RPG and that I would again have the chance to play as
female, I was definitely excited. Then when I heard that she would be
voiced by the same woman who voiced Bastila, I was beside myself.

It's been a couple of years now and I still can't get enough of Mass
Effect. I would never be able to enjoy it this much if it were not for
the talented voice actress who breathes life into her. These are not
just my sentiments. I am a regular at the Bioware Social Network site
and I see people saying the same things, actually I’ve seen this across
the net too.
“You have made Commander Shepard the iconic hero.” “All
hail, Hale!” And one more of my favorite quotes:

“"In a male-dominated entertainment medium, your fantastic work
voicing the female Commander Shepard breathes life into a fantastically
well developed and interesting female protagonist in a military sci-fi
setting. Thank you so much for lending your considerable talent to
voicing Shepard, Jennifer! It is very much appreciated!"

I have started a "campaign" of sorts on the Bioware website to try
to gain more recognition for FemShep. This discussion thread I created
is a place where we discuss ways we would like to see Bioware promote
more FemShep for us before Mass Effect 3 is all said and done. It's
also a place where we can all gather and appreciate the amazing
performances you give us. Women and men alike prefer the rare chance to
have their female Commander pick up a gun and save the Universe.

http://social.biowar...8/index/3171265

Speaking more for myself, I didn’t think my fangirlism could grow
any larger for you but it has! After playing Lair of the Shadowbroker
for the first time, I was in tears. You added so much emotion to my
Shepard. You made her human again by showing weakness. Hearing her
voice uncertainty in those lines of how they were going to pull off the
fight with the Reapers made me want to give her a warm hug and tell her
that I was pulling for her. Good thing Liara was there! If I didn’t
know any better, I would think that you and Ali Hillis actually voiced
the lines right next to each other in the same room. You two have so
much chemistry. You have made the romance between my Shepard and Liara
the most special one I have ever witnessed via any entertainment
medium. Your “marriage and little blue children” line was delivered
with so much bona-fide love for Shepard’s girlfriend! I also never
cease to laugh during the car chase banter between the couple!

I have tried to keep this short but I just wanted to tell you that
you have scores of adoring fans that appreciate the work you have done
over the years. Personally, it’s going to feel like a part of me is
missing once Mass Effect 3 is over. I am very much dreading that day
but until then, I am going to keep replaying the story of the woman who
put it all on the line to save the Universe and no one could have made
her into the iconic hero/badass better than you!!

And Jen's response:

Wow Kathryn thank you so much.  it means a lot that the Female Shepard
has connected with people and i love that you guys are bugging bioware
to give her more recognition, awesome! So glad my work is working for you.  All the best to you and see you out in the universe!

This.
I think I would pass out if I ever heard her voice a trailer for FemShep.  It will probably never happen and maybe that's a good thing since I don't wanna die.  :o
