Hoooo, genius may be too bold; I'm learning the capabilities of ME2 modding as I go. I am, however, involved in a project to create step-by-step tutorials for people who want to start PC modding without plowing through the unwieldly threads on the subject. I'm writing the last of the introduction articles tonight before I start on Kick Ass And Look Good Doing It, the Shepard Dress-Up tutorial.Iwakura-Lain wrote...
Please, do! What I could really need is hearing from more geniuses like you, as I generally really suck at modding (I can only do it when someone really lays it out for me, step by step). I never understand how you people figure out all that cool stuff anyway.

That sounds good because I eventually plan to buy a new PC and of course both ME games. I want to mod Kathryn Shepard to the max but it always sounds so complicated. It was tough enough for me to figure out how to mod hair and eyes on the 360.

Wheeeeee!

Here is what I was able to come up with for you, Señor Simian Santa... I think it's pretty close, even given the limitations of the character editor:

Yes, I'm a Dune nut.
And incidentally, I just finished testing the use of GameEffects tags on the Aria costume, and +50% Shields worth of tags resulted in +50% Shields in-game. Time to write me a tutorial - there may be some delay before posting since I'll have to tackle the night's paperwork in about half an hour, but I'll get it up ASAP so Shepards in personal wear can still be as combat effective as their counterparts.

For once I can't tell what she's thinking, but she seems pensive, even a little sad.
Other nice ones, where I can tell what she's thinking:

"Oh, that's not good..."

">sigh<... here we go again."
Something tells me it was just not her day.

Looks good Sable Phoenix. Don't think she looks sad but distant, definitely like she's in thought.
Yes, good expressive shot! (I'm thinking Citadel, Reaper-invasion time, right after you crash with your shuttle and find the city burning. Could be entirely wrong, though; it's hard to tell, of course; but yeah, she would have had a lot to think about then).

Here is the new and improved Alexandra Shepard. She is essentially the same Shepard I've used in every ME1 and ME2 playthrough. Only this time around I've made her an Engineer where as before in ME1, she's almost
always a soldier. I changed the scar for the 1st time ever. Now I have to think up a good backstory for that one, lol
She just found out this whole quest for Saren is going to be filmed and she's not thrilled about that.

Since I vastly increased the damge on assault rifles (sort of a realism project) I find myself longing
for stronger shields.[smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/unsure.png[/smilie]

Same here. I think I slip into my Shep's skin rather than creating her as a possession. If I were her, I'd basically do everything I already do in the game, including going for Liara.

I think you just hit the nail on the head. I play my Shep the same way. I essentially become her. There are very few characters I've been able to connect with to the same extent as I can with my Shep.

idk if this is new to anyone but playing male shep and femsheps close to each other made me see something. when Shep gets woekn up by miranda at lazerus station my femsheps eyes are never fully closed, while my maleshep eyes are. I can still see some of the whites of Kallens eyes, but then when it's adam's turn his are closed shut. not really an issue just an observation.

Eh, for me that's just my response to any good RPG. I always end up becoming my character, which is why I can never go the evil route through any game. It's also why I remember the twist of KOTOR as one of the most stunning plot twists I've ever experienced; I found out everyone through the entire game had been lying to me, that my whole existence was a fabrication, that I had been the one that had lit the galaxy on fire and nearly driven the Jedi to extinction. It was something that had never even entered my mind as I played, because there was no way I could ever do that. It literally paralyzed me into rocking back and forth in my chair for a few minutes, unable to continue. Good thing the game didn't progress in realtime through the conversation, because if it had been real life Malak could've beheaded me right there with no fight. It's also the moment that Reven became irrevocably female in my head, LucasFilm 'canon' be damned. The story's far more dramatic that way, anyway.
It's also why Planescape:Torment remains the crowning jewel of all CRPGs to me, no other game has ever made me feel that I was the main character more completely than that one. As cliche as it is, putting you in the role of an amnesiac is a very powerful storytelling technique in RPGs, because you have no choice but to relate to the character as yourself from the beginning.
I don't identify quite that strongly with Jessica Shepard, due to her established history and predetermined voiceover, but her actions are still my actions. When she sacrificed the engineering team and fought Balak, that was my decision, as was the, to my mind, completely just vengeance of shooting him and letting him bleed out. When she berated Mordin at every opportunity for his work on the new and improved genophage, that was because she gave voice to my feelings, and yet she then stood in front of the computer and agonized over whether or not to save the cure because I myself was wrestling with the implications (I still don't know what the right decision is for that scenario -- best loyalty mission in the game). That pervasive feeling of isolation and loneliness that I felt throughout all of Mass Effect 2, that constant sense of loss every time I stepped onto the copy of the Normandy, was because that was how Shepard felt about the situation, and that was why she ducked her head and charged off after the Collectors like a pitbull to keep from thinking about it all.
It's one reason I love fiction, I can't help but get inside the skin of the characters. They're not dolls or constructs to me, they're people I empathize with.

Well said. I agree with a lot of what you said, especially in regards to Mass Effect. It can be said for any game. I tend to play the same way. I put myself in my characters shoes. What would I do if that were me? I never had an issue with Shepard being voiced. It was so well done, that for me, it was not a distraction.
I've never been able to play an evil character. I have a hard time really getting involved in a game in which I can not identify with the main character. It is also why all my playthroughs are very similar. Every playthrough on Alexandra Shepard has almost been identical. I may change her class. My canon is soldier but I've completed the game as a vanguard and sentinel as well. I also have an adept playthrough in the works. With that I will bring different people on the missions to compliment my abilities. However, outside of that, I tend to make the same choices. I may go a slightly different decision, but they are always minor differences.
In Dragon Age, it was the same way. I still generally made the same decisions, I just created different characters and brought different people along. Although because the Warden could be various races and classes, I sometimes had a harder time connecting with my character. Human Noble and City Elf are my favorites and have always been the easiest for me to identify with.
Like I said, I always try to identify with the main character. Whether that character be from a game or even a book. A well written story has the ability to completely suck me in. That said, I don't think I have ever been so engrossed in a story as I have Mass Effect. That is largely because of my character. If she hadn't been so well written or well voiced, I don't think I'd have been able to play through either ME1 or ME2 as may times as I have.
