'good enough' as in I could put up with it until the end of my playthrough.

I got through one playthrough as a Vanguard. I was a little intimidated at 1st because of the whole melee thing. Wasn't as scary as I led myself to believe it may be. My 1st playthrough is always as a soldier though.

I played Vanguard once. All I can say is that I'm the polar opposite of a close-range fighter. But it was good enough a class for me to play a complete playthrough.

I can never decide what class to be until I get about halfway into any game I'm playing. I though in DA:O i'd love mage. I could not get enough of rogue duelist. I thought I'd love druid in nwn2 - i went for bard. I thought i would love vanguard, but adept just grew on me. i've played every type of class there is and other than a tendency to play healers in mmos, i really can't think of any one style i like best. it totally depends on the game.

biotics + pistol is just so awesome. the shotty seemed superfluous by then.

Les, think about it

vanguard is a force of nature

nothing better than a girl with a big boomstick

vanguard is as much a part of my mainshep as, say, her sideboob

XD

I may create a secondary Shepard that is a Vanguard, and give the class a try. I do love Adept FemSheps, though. Even if she does forget that she is a biotic during cutscenes!

You could literally go through the entirety of ME2 using only the Phalanx and biotics.

That pretty much happens to every biotic.  Except when you take Liara to Noveria and she flares up during the stand-down with Matsuo.  Even Kaidan uses his gun.

And don't get me started on Horizon.  He could've used biotic barriers.

But, back to FemShep.  I really like the engineering class for her!  I need to get more photos of my Sheps!

Hah, you sound as bad as me. I used to play warriors in mmos and then I discovered the joy of healing, Now thats all I play. I tried to translate that into single player games and well, that didn't work very well. In DA:O, I thought I'd like to be a sprit healer. About 1/2 way through I decided to roll a duel wielding warrior. In ME I was going to specialize as a medic... Again about 1/2 way through I re:rolled. This time as a soldier. In my case, I know I should just stick with the "warrior" type class but I always end up thinking I might like something else better.

Too much to keep up with! Argh! That artwork of the Vanguard femShep is very nice. Also, I think my favorites of all the new screenshots are the introductions to Vralenalien's femShep. She looks tough enough to pistol-whip a krogan, but manages to still be beautiful. Very good work!

Re: classes, I thought I would stick with Adept, cause I always play the 'wizard' class first in any RPG, and my first complete playthrough was indeed with an Adept, but that first playthrough left me cold on Mass Effect as a whole and I didn't go back to it.  Oddly, Infiltrator was the one I ended up cementing as my 'canon' Shep once I came back to the game; turns out I just love sniping stuff in the Mass Effect games, and more than any other class, the Infiltrator is defined by her main weapon, which for an odd reason appeals to me.  I like that Jessica can go through an entire mission with her signature sniper rifle, and that she's good enough with it (i.e., I as the player have had enough practice) to use it in any situation, whether it's the intended sniping role, medium range engagements, even clubbing someone to the ground and shooting them in close combat.  Sniping from cover, sniping on the move, sniping open-sight, Jessica can and has done it all.  The concept of someone just being so good with a particular weapon that they can use it even in situations that it's not intended for has a very martial-arts feel to me that I really enjoy.  Infiltrators are the ninja of Mass Effect.

Heh. I focus almost exclusively on biotics when I play my Adept. I rarely, if ever, fire my pistol. If you utilise your squadmates' powers effectively whilst playing the Adept, the pistol is almost completely superfluous. Miranda is almost a permanent fixture in my squad, due to the fact that she is so versatile and is able to handle virtually any situation. My other favourite squadmate is Kasumi, as Deadly Shadow Strike works wonders on minibosses like Scions, YMIR Mechs and Geth Prime. The power actually distracts them for a few seconds, allowing you to fire a well-placed Singularity or Warp at them.

Plus, FemShep, Miranda and Kasumi is like Charlie's Angels. XD

Oddly enough, this does not bother me as much as it realistically should do, mash. I mean sure, my Shepard will start randomly bludgeoning the Shadow Broker with her magical assault rifle, but I just ignore it.

Besides, I prefer it when FemShep uses a pistol.

I have never tried an infiltrator. You're description has almost sold me on trying it out the next time I go through the game. Right now I have Alex going through ME1 has an Engineer. It's been fun so far. Taking me some getting used to though.

I've never used the sniper rifle much. I'd use it from time to time as a soldier, but it was rare. Hmmm, yeah, I think I will try Infiltrator next.

"We're both f***ing biotics. Why the he** did we even bring these things?"

Apparently only asari remember they are biotics come cutscenes. Though on Feros, I took Tali for the first time on an actual mission, and laughed my head off when you take on Jeong. Kaidan pulls out a pistol (DUR!) - and she shakes her omnitool. I was just rolling. Had never see that before.

"FEAR ME! I am a teenage quarian with MAD TECH SKILLZ!"

But I digress.

I think I'd like Infiltrator, but adept is "canon" for me now. However, I think all the classes just rock. ME did a FABULOUS job of creating interesting skills sets (biotic, tech and guns) and mixing them up in interesting and well-balanced ways. Seriously, it's a big chunk of why these games are so full of win.

That and femshep, of course.

Yeah, I know. But like I said, it doesn't bother me as much as it should do. It would be nice if an Adept or a Sentinel uses her biotics in cutscenes, and it kinda sucks that Shepard uses assault rifles in cutscenes regardless of her class, but I understand that there are limitations from a game design perspective.

The fact that Kaidan uses an assault rifle, and forgets that he is a biotic whilst on Horizon is infuriating, though.

Okay, that has got to be the best quote of the day.

I usually bring Tali and Liara along in ME1. Mostly cuz I almost exclusivly played as a soldier. I don't think I ever noticed Tali pulling out the onmi tool. Thats just too funny.

I use Heavy Reave as a sort of Warp substitue with my Vanguard, I lean a bit on Biotic side rather than the weapon side. My Assault Mastery power is Champion rather than Destroyer for the cooldown bonus, which allows you to have a Vanguard be a very aggressive power caster. By the end of the game I can spam Lift with the best of them and strip Barriers and Armour with Reave at range, and if I'm ever in trouble I just charge the nearest enemy to restore my Barriers.

That's how I play it anyway, I go for maximum aggression!

Edit: I should say there are times when playing a Vanguard that just watching them fight is very elegant, since the transition from Biotics to Weapons can be seemless and fluid. At least on PC I don't know how hotkeys work on the console version of ME2 when I played ME1 on the 360 there weren't any, you had to pause to cast powers.

Not necessarily. You can still have them. Vanguard has pull and you can bring Miranda and/or Thane to detonate baddies.
But since most of the time you'll be unloading your shotty on people's faces with inferno ammo... you won't care much for warp explosions.

Hey, it's the least I can do after you so graciously gave me her face code. You simply deserve to see her in high-res every now and then. :)

She's a Vanguard, btw; a bit of the best of everything, I reckoned. I hope you like the armor. As you know, I love to color-coordinate. :P Dark red looks good on her, I think.

Oh, and here's one for the road:
