See, that whole "not as good as I wanted" feeling is something I experienced a lot when I was finalizing Jessica's design, and it always hinged on the nose. Most of the noses in the ME character creator are really wide. If you look at most of the human NPCs in the first game, you'll find a majority of them have an East Asian cast to their features or have a skin tone in the olive-or-darker range, and blondes are very rare (this is oddly absent from ME2, I guess all the white people headed to the Terminus Systems for some reason). I think BioWare is subscribing to the idea you find in a lot of science fiction, that humanity is homogenizing and that the Nordic and Anglo-European phenotypes are being bred out of the majority of the population (although realistically Mass Effect takes place too early for this to have started happening already, give it another three to five hundred years to really kick in).

Unfortunately, this creates difficulties with a lot of the facial structure choices, which already have wide noses built into them. On those faces, the majority of available noses are really really wide, and end up being too large for the rest of the face. This kind of restricts you to a choice between five (maybe seven, again depending on the facial structure) of the available noses, which is less than half of them and really heavily influences the look that so many Shepards seem to share. Sage's Kyrie Shepard is one of the few non-black Shepards to use this and make it look good, which is one reason I admire her design so.

Anyway, there's my rant on character design, at least for femShep. I think dudeShep has fewer nose choices overall, but they fall more into the median range. I don't know for sure, the few times I've tried making one I always end up with the same nose, there is only one that looks good to me in the entire male face creator. I do appreciate that femSheps get far more customization options, a small benefit thrown our way to make up for the fact that we don't have a default faced based on some real-life model.

Whoah, she looks a lot like my Renegade Adept Alexis.  Who is still sitting in Udina's office after Eden Prime.  Hrmm...

Anyway, very nice face!  The combination of that rarely-used brow choice with that mouth shape give her a unique expression.

She's a Vanguard, btw; a bit of the best of everything, I reckoned. I hope you like the armor. As you know, I love to color-coordinate. :P Dark red looks good on her, I think.

Oh, and here's one for the road:

(She hasn't been at Kasumi's party yet; so it's 'Kelly-wear' for the time being)

Vanguards are fun!  Red does look good on her.  I don't mind what you put on her, she is kind of yours now. :lol:
Whenever I have to put the dress on her, I can imagine her feeling very awkward.  She's a tomboy, in my world anyway.  But have fun with whatever outfit combos you think fits her in your playthrough.  It doesn't bother me.

I think I need to get a second hard drive. I never realized how much space all these videos and images of Alexandra Shepard was going to take. I'm only through my first mission (rescuing Liara) and I already have over 100 gigs of video and about 1 gig of images :blink:

Edit: Hayley looks great. Those are some awesome images. I always wanted to try that renegade punch. Have yet to do it though.

Hehe, I could never really bring myself to punch her lights out, either. :) I'm just a softie, LOL. Seriously, though, I thought the Paragon way out of that interview was very smooth; and not just slick, like a politician (think Udina), but genuinely a good and honest answer. In fact, I based an entire little work on it once:

That is a beautiful wallpaper! Hale's delivery during I Remember Me is some of her best ME work, IMO.

I hope you added that piece to the Wallpaper gallery in the FemShep, DA group! : P

I love giving my character's scars. I think it just adds so much more depth to the character etc. I'm a dork about it too and think up a whole story behind said scars. It was fun seeing the new scars in ME2 but since I've always been Paragon, they are generally non existant pretty early on in the game. I'm with you on the whole new scars for ME3.

I really like that one...

Speaking of the interview scene. I also thought the paragon speech was well done. In ME2 as well. Especially if you saved the council. I love how Shep can name every Alliance ship that was destroyed. It was such an elegant way of putting Al-Jilani in her place.

Yes, I Remember Me is one of the ME1 missions which touched me the most. I see it as being about making a real difference to people around you; not just about saving a nameless galaxy whole. Part of what I liked about that big TV interview is that it felt honest. And I think it's being held right after you successfully talked down Talitha (at least, it was so in my case). And I realized the great truth there: that being in the limelight is one thing (heck, every one-day fly artists are too); but to have it really mean something, and have it last, you have to be the genuine article. We see Femshep be in the spotlight, whilst Talitha dwelled in darkness; that's life. Yet Femshep does not squander her good fortune in vain. She uses honesty and kindness in her life, and so becomes a light herself. To Talitha, for one. Cardinal rule, though: no bull. You have to be real; otherwise it doesn't work.

Oops, that was perhaps a bit TMI (it's all part of my internal 'canon', though). Anyway, hadn't submitted it. Didn't want to overflow the group. But it's on its way now. :) Thanks.

Same here.

And I have to admit, I'm not very impressed with the ME2 "scars". At first I thought they looked pretty cool but then it just fell in with the superhero costumes of most of the squad members and it was just meh.

Well think about it, I don't know about you, but I think my Alexandra easily picked up a few Scars between waking up and destroying the Collector base. Heck even between the Collecter base and wherever we start ME3. Obviously her old scars are gone, but I'd be beyond thrilled to come up with a story behind how she got her her scars :)

I did 'I remember me' yesterday.   I only did it once before and forgot how emotional that scene was.   It was dark and powerful in showing with words the clear and obvious abuse Talitha had.  So much so you knew that she would never again have a normal life.    Really sad :(

@ jt walker - i like. those eyebrows always make shep look very sympathetic...like "i understand - it will all be okay."

@ jane/sable - noses are HARD in ME. i always had to go with the first one or two on the slider to make them look reasonable.

part of why i settled on my blonde femshep being a colonist was just for that "all the white people went to the terminus" reason. kind of like how there's such a disproportionate number of blondes out in US farm country - same idea.

@ chignon. that is lovely. it is making me totally nostalgic.

"I remember me" gave me chills because I thought of what could realistically have happened to that girl...I was aiming for a renegade since it was a colonist sole survivor shep I was playing with but I couldn't in my right mind use the renegade options on that girl.

Thanks sagequeen, Sable , Valagil

It was hard making Hayley. It took 3 attempts.
I used ME2 char creator, so I get a face code, and then used the ME2 - > ME1 converter. I even played Lazarus project and Fredom's progress. I decided once I got on the Normandy. There you have several cutscenes, only then you really see if the face is really "working"....

For me, most of the noses are too small.  Probably just me, I like prominent noses.  But then the problem I have with those ones is that the nostrils are way too large.  On the small ones, you can't see the nostrils, on the large ones, they're as large as the bridge itself.
I'm trying to redo Zorya's design--maybe even change her name--but I keep having problems.  Such as her nose.  I want to change it, but I really liked it on her in ME2.  I think it might just be that ME1 face creator though.
But I think what some of you guys have said is right, it takes a few cutscenes to determine if the face is really "working."

It's likely just the differences between the two builds of the UE3 engine that Mass Effect uses. The first Mass Effect had a really terrible lighting system and some very low resolution textures, BioWare seemed a bit out of their element working with Unreal Engine. In ME2 the lighting system is radically overhauled and the average size of the textures is double or quadruple the size of the ME1 counter-part. For some Shepard designs the difference between ME1 and ME2 can be dramatic others not so much it just depends on how the lighting and texture systems interact.

This is my character Danielle in ME1
Image IPB

And Her in ME2
Image IPB

Not a big difference I suppose she seems a little younger in ME1 but It probably has more to do with the hair cut than the differences between the two engine builds.

 Over the past few weeks I started two new femSheps and I wonder if others in this thread have felt conflicted by creating multple characters. A couple of things I worried about are:

1. Creating a face that I find as satisfying as my original Shepard. The character creator is a bit of a crapshoot forcing you to cross your fingers when pressing the confirm button. I also worried about not having the ability to create another face that I would consider "good."

2.  Seeing the new Shepard as a separate character from the one I have used these past two years.

3. Worrying that I will see the new character as the official Shepard....that must sound real stupid but I can't put my finger on why I would find that a little troubling. :mellow:

 Anyhow, here's my official Shepard, Devi:
Image IPB

  She's a pure Paragon and one who I designed specifically for the soldier class. I think of her as a somewhat aloof yet compassionate idealist who can be conservative, but not in a politcal or prudish way.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My second Shepard, Indra:
Image IPB
 For all things renegade I turn to Indra. She's aggressive and an unashamed bigot towards Batarians.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

My third Shepard, Nemain:
Image IPB
Image IPB

  I love how Nemain turned out and she comes fairly close to replacing Devi as my main Shepard. I have several more pics of her in this album:  social.bioware.com/1562460/albums/893032
