BETRAYAL AND MUTINY
(
starting off with two screenies that I'm ridiculously proud of, both staged, one photomanipulated)

Back on the Normandy, Jessica somehow makes it through the debriefing.  She tells Kaidan not to blame himself for Ash.  It's all lies; she blames him too, but she blames herself more.  At the earliest opportunity she retreats to her cabin...

Image IPB

... and there, for the first time since before she left Earth, she weeps, the feelings Saren stirred up getting all twisted together the loss of the closest thing she ever had to a sister.

Image IPB

She gets herself under control just in time to get up to CIC and hear Joker relay a message from the Council.  They're finally prepping the fleet for Saren.  Jessica is steel.  Saren has made it personal, and is beyond forgiveness.

Image IPB
"I want the Normandy at the head of that fleet, Joker."

Things can't get any worse, right?  Yeah.  When she gets back to the Citadel, the Council and Udina ground her.  She surprises herself by being more disgusted than angry...

Image IPB
"Stupid politicians."

... at least until she gets back onto her ship and finds out she can't even open a locker door.

Image IPB
"I am going to kill them!"

And then who should show up but Liara, who takes over the role of itinerant psychologist that Shepard usually plays.  At first Jessica snaps at her for her attempts to help, then apologizes, covering her feelings with a platitudinous white lie.

Image IPB
"I'm... just tired, Liara.  I'm sorry."

Liara offers her encouragement and a hand up, and the situation abruptly takes on a very different tone.

Image IPB
"Oh... uh... thanks."

Which is promptly interrupted by Joker.  Jessica finds the rapid shifting of moods humorous.

Image IPB
"Just what did you think you were doing, Doctor T'soni?"

The news is finally good news, though.  Anderson's going to help them commandeer the Normandy and, incidentally, save all life in the galaxy.  It seems to take forever, but finally the light turns green.

Image IPB
"Get us the hell out of here, Joker!"
"Aye aye, ma'am!"

And the Normandy burns for the Mu Relay and Ilos as fast as it can.  If only they can get there in time...

To Be Continued...

Holy wow!  One of the most amazing screens I've ever seen.  I know it's manipulated but it's fantastic.  I would imagine many Shepards would do the same after Virmire.

Magnificent artistic expression on the first two. Chapeau! Very emotive work.

Followed by a majestic screenshot on the third. :)

Just to interject, in case someone else wants to try this out. It is possible to draw your weapon while in your BDUs on the Normandy. There's a small glitch that you have to time perfectly to get this. Basically, you go stand with your face against the doors leading to the stairs out of the CIC. Only these doors on the whole ship work for this, because they are the only ones that don't open automatically when you approach them. You then use the button to open the door, and the instant the doors start opening, hit crouch (by default, the left CTRL key). If you time it perfectly, you will go into cover against the opening door, drawing your nonexistent weapon (which will show up on the HUD with an X through it, amusingly). Now you can walk around the ship in combat stance, with no armor or gun. I discovered this trick by total accident, and used it to position Jessica in her quarters for the first two screenshots of the Betrayal And Mutiny photojournal here. It's the only way you can get Shepard to look at the floor while using the flycam.

@Sable Phoenix: I love that screenshot of Shepard lowering her head. I also like how you designed her face. She has a sharp, hawkish air to her.

I named mine Naomi, after another Hale voiced character, Naomi Hunter. Nothing special :)

:wizard:

You're also a Metal Gear fan? I love Jennifer Hale's work voicing Naomi! She does so fantastically well!

I am, and she's sublime. All the more reason I hate how that whole thing ends in MGS4 <_< Come on, Kojima - give the poor nerd a break after you spend the entire Act 3 mission briefing showing how they're eachother's One True Love *grumble*

@Sable Phoenix: I am completely loving your photo journal here. You're managing to put more depth and vulnerability into the character with a few short paragraphs than BioWare, with all their flashy cutscenes managed in all of ME2.

ILOS

The Normandy is on a twelve hour run to Ilos, hoping against hope to catch Saren there before he uses the Conduit, whatever that is.  Jessica retreats to her cabin again, attempting to get some sleep, knowing she won't.  There is too much on her mind, her past and her loss not least among them.  As she sits brooding in the dark, Liara comes to her... and offers herself.

Jessica is no stranger to sex; as a teenage girl growing up in gangs, she has experienced plenty of it, much of it against her will.  But she has never made love before.  The asari meld intrigues her, and Liara has been in her head twice.  She likes her a lot more than she has any right to, she trusts her, but she is still, quite frankly, scared.

Image IPB
"We're going into battle and you want to do this now?"

In the end, though, she has been lonely her entire life, and she is hurting, and she believes Liara when the asari says she can help her.  At first, Jessica only feels vulnerable, and since Liara has never done this before she is nearly as hesitant.

Image IPB
"Just... give me a minute, Liara."

Slowly, though, they ease into mutual comfort and security.

Image IPB
"You know, Dr. T'soni, this isn't so bad after all."

After that, Jessica proves to be a quick study.

Image IPB
"Goddess...!"

Jessica ends up actually getting an unexpected few hours sleep afterwards.  All too soon Joker alerts the ship that they are approaching the Mu Relay, and the new lovers put on their clothes and their roles and prepare for the final confrontation.

There's nowhere to land on Ilos.  At least, nowhere any normal pilot could put them down.  Joker assures Jessica he can pull it off, and she gives him the go-ahead.

Image IPB
"Joker, drop us right on top of that bastard."

Ilos proves a disappointment; geth are everywhere, but Saren is already gone.  Jessica worries they'll get nowhere, until suddenly, all the answers fall into her lap, thanks to an ancient VI.

Image IPB
"Well... that was unexpected."

The VI tells them exactly where to go and what to do, and without further delay they head to the Conduit, hot on Saren's heels.

To Be Concluded...

THE BATTLE OF THE CITADEL

The arrival through the Relay Monument is not auspicious.  Plus, the Citadel is burning.

Image IPB
"Well, crap."

After fighting through lots of geth, taking a spacewalk on the outside of the station, and cutting their way into the council chambers, they arrive just in time to see a glimpse of Saren.  Jessica hesitates, suspecting a trap.

Image IPB
"C'mon out where I can plug you, you bastard."

She doesn't have to wait too long before Saren obliges her.  Explosions ensue.

Image IPB
"Ouch."

Long story short, after lots of explosions both inside and outside, Jessica and her team finally bring down the zombiefied Saren, causing the barriers on Sovereign to fail and allowing the Normandy to gut it with a single torpedo.  The predictable result is large pieces of Reaper hurtling every which way, including towards the Citadel tower.

Image IPB
"Everyone out of here now!"

It's quite a while before C-Sec comes digging through the chaos to find the survivors.  Liara saw the wreckage come down right where Jessica was turning to run.  She is injured, but she doesn't care.  She feels like an empty shell.

Image IPB
What do you do when your world has been destroyed?

Slowly Anderson and the C-Sec officers help Shepard's injured squad pick their way through the wreckage.  Suddenly, behind them, there is the unmistakeable noise of something scrabbling over metal.

Image IPB
"Hey.  You guys forgetting someone?"

Liara's expression speaks for all of them.  She very nearly sheds tears of relief.

Image IPB
Suddenly the light comes back into the world.

And Jessica limps down from the fragments of her conquered enemy's corpse to join them...

Image IPB
"What, you think you can kill this grin just by dropping a Reaper on it?"

... and hopefully, to get some much-needed, and much-deserved, rest.

The End

I return after an hour or so and softpoan has been posted.:o  :D Great picture series, SP!

Anyways, I've been trying to improve the freckles texture via Texmod. Here is what I've managed so far by upscaling to 1024x1024 pixels with increased contrast and sharpness + unsharp mask (GIMP). I might try to blur some regions like the nostril shadows.
Image IPB
I'm open to suggestions.

Question for you all: How do you come up with names for your shepards? Or for RP chars in general. I find I use the same few names. So bad at naming characters...

Abby =  'Abigail'. King Diamond's studio album. I really liked that one (many years ago ) Also, 'Abby' is the goth chick in NCIS

Hayley. I got that one for Hayley Stark, Hard candy movie. Didn't like the ending though. But Patrick Wilson's and Ellen Page's performances were superb. Hayley = ownage.

I don't know how I missed this one. I'm horrible at naming characters. All my DA:O characters for example are the defaults for each origin.

With my Shepard, I wanted her to have a strong name. I felt that she needed something other than the default name. That was when Alexandra Shepard was born. Alex is stron willed and independent and I felt the name suited her perfectly.

You guys should all be in advertising. Or BioWare should use your screenshots.
It was one of sage's pics that convinced me to purchase Overlord, despite knowing the story and hearing how great it was.

Doesn't the game display them on the Squad screen, when you have Shepard selected? I think they're in tiny print in the top left corner.
