I needs to play ME1 again...I still need to reverse engineer my ME2 face code from my import so I can replay ME1 with my original face for Rachel. I didn't write down the ME1 sliders :(

jlb524:

Do you know about the me2 to me1 face-code converter website?

http://kenerd.com/se...1/me2tome1.php?

It works like a charm. :)

Yeah, I will have to use that as well.  I don't have the ME2 face code, as she was an ME1 import.  I can get this the hard way by reverse-engineering ME2 sliders from face morph data found by the Gibbed Save Editor.  Then, I can go into ME2 and use the slider values to get a face code, then convert that to ME1 slider data (I'm not sure if the ME1/ME2 sliders are an exact match, so I need that extra step).

I know this was like 20 hours ago but it was directed at me so the least I can do is try to answer the question. I've never given out my face codes for ME2 and upon seeing this face (took some digging though) it's not that much like mine the codes are pretty different though both start with 7 and end in 76 and that's pretty much where the similarities end. As for handing out codes and morphs it's always sorta weird for me, if only because I have had problems in the past with people ripping my work off wholesale, reuploading it and saying it's theirs. Which is always super strange for me because I never really think my stuff is worth stealing in the first place and I feel somewhat silly being protective of what essentially is a bunch of computer code that produces a face. Not that I don't want to be a team player and help people out it's just a somewhat awkward situation for me and I'm hesitent to give away "Trade Secrets" so to speak.

Edit: I should ask of those who make custom faces how do you feel about sharing codes? Do you hand them all out or keep them super secret?

Alrighty, I was jiust wondering. The name and the red hair just reminded me of yours, I guess. As for giving out trade secrets, I can certainly relate - I haven't given out the template for the femShep I posted on page 300 yet, and I doubt I would start. I just so closely associate her with my playthroughs. Of course it's a non-issue for me right now as I'm around 5000 miles away from the computer that has that save file on it and will be for a few months more.

I read those instructions on going through Gibbed's... I feel for you. Good luck.

@scampermax: That's a real useful tool. Thanks for posting the link. :)

If I wanted to reduce the cheekbone depth for one of my codes without sitting through the intro, is there a chart that shows which number in the ME2 code corresponds to certain features? Sorry for the off-topic question everyone.

I have a sort of chart I did for my character sheets, but it's in InDesign - not web based. Cheek bones are the seventh number/letter in the code string. Hope this helps.

i have been asked personally and felt okay giving it out in that case. but i have been unimpressed with the behavior of people frequenting the face database project and the threads, so i have not been inclined to post new kyrie publicly.

but for me, creating a custom femshep that i like this much is like i got to be part of the design process. it's like there's the AWESOME game with cool characters and amazing art and then for me to create a shep i love and that looks like she fits the world, it's like i EARNED some little corner of Mass Effect and earned the right for my shep to be there. it's like she can romance kaidan and befriend ashley and shoot balak and make her paragrade decisions and all and it's okay because she belongs there.

okay, that probably sounds totally insane and delusionally fangirlish, but that's totally how i feel about it. i worked hard enough to create a character that felt part of the world, so the hours in character creator screen probably fried my brain.

=]

going back to my playthrough.... :bandit:

ME1 and ME2 sliders are identical, ME1 has one extra slider for facial scars but otherwise it's the same system. As you mention ME1 imports have to do it the hard way by getting the raw data out of the save files, however the code system for ME2 is fairly straight forward. Every slide starts at 1 (there is no 0 position) and then goes up to 9 at that point any value higher than 9 becomes a letter so 10 is A 11 is B and so on. So you can convert slides to codes and codes to slides fairly easily once you know the system they are using. Backporting a ME2 face into ME1 is not too hard it just requires you to pay attention carefully, you turn your code into slide numbers then count the clicks in the CC menu remembering to start at one (all the way to the left) and then count the first click as two. I managed to get the indentical facial structure in both games which I thought was pretty cool.

I feel kind of silly now. I always counted the sliders with a 0 and the first click to the right, 1.

@Sagequeen: Like you I used to feel a little possessive over my original character but when I took on the challenge of recreating her face, I figured why not? I'd like to think I'm adding just a little bit of diversity to the site and if someone tries to take credit for something I made (like that will ever happen...) then I have the timestamps for all my images and videos to prove otherwise; as silly as that sounds.

I made the same mistake too! I spent 10 minutes carefully counting the clicks only to have the face look off in ME1.

@ flies: that makes sense. i guess i am...emotionally preparing myself to let kyrie go onto the site? ha! actually, i haven't imported her into ME2 yet, so i need to make sure she makes the transition gracefully.

I really do like Kyrie, by the way, and I think she would be a great addition to the site. I also understand why you may not want to post her so baby steps.......baby steps.

Having had my work ripped off before I'm much more cautious about sharing stuff like that, if only because for me it's a lot of work I spend hours working on a face design trying to get it right. The most recent and most blatant example was when somebody took every single preset I had made for Dragon Age, changed the hair and re-uploaded them as their own even going as far as to copy the way I named the screenshots for the project. I was lucky in that I didn't have to get in there and prove to the mods that I was telling the truth, they banned the guy and deleted the project before the end of the day. However I've heard the "horror stories" from other people I know, everything from people saying they made your stuff and trying to get you banned to jerks coming on telling you how much you suck and everything you make is garbage. It's changed my view of things, I know first hand how much work goes into stuff like this and how some people can have nothing but contempt for you and everything you've done. Not to discourage people, just that it's not wrong to want to spare yourself the headache of the general public.

I don't plan on ever posting Jessica's face codes anywhere, whether for ME 1 or 2. She's not so unique she doesn't have lookalikes, but she's still mine, created through about three false starts and partial playthroughs to get her just exactly right. If anyone were to ask me for them in person, I'd be happy to share. On the other hand if someone wants to go on about how much my stuff sucks they can take a long walk on a short pier for all I care, so it's not criticism or anything that I want to avoid. I guess sagequeen already put how I feel better than I could (I guess that makes me insane and delusional too?); Jessica feels like she fits my little corner of Mass Effect. I figure if someone wants to take the time to ask for permission to use her, they're honoring that, as silly and baseless though that feeling might be, whereas putting her out in public is... I dunno, almost feels like whoring her out. Using her to try and get attention or something. I don't need that kind of attention, so I'm happy to keep her to myself and just post the occasional screenshot.

Edit:  Wow, when I read that over it really doesn't make much sense.  Hey sage, uh, you don't happen to have another one of those white jackets with the really long sleeves, do you?

Want me to make yous an offa you can't refuse? :P

Also, am playing Shadow Broker.  There's something about the camera on Illium that makes Jessica's face look a lot softer than normal.  Not sure if I like, actually.

Jessica is still frustrated at Liara's cold shoulder. She even got her hair styled!  She figured with the Collector base dust now, she had time to get it put back the way it was on the first Normandy.

Probably late to the debate, but here goes:

lovely as your guys' FemSheps I don't think I could ever ask for the face code or slider numbers.

There's a beauty in being able to play through a character you create for three games(as sage eloquently mentioned).

Of course coincidences will occur, certain features/combinations will be inspiring, and as somebody mentioned quite a few pages ago, a lot of Sheps look alike because certain features are more popular. But if I were to ask the slider numbers and face codes to make my Sheps identical to yours, then I wouldn't feel that she was my Shep. She's just a copy of somebody else's.

I've been totally and completely flattered when I've been asked for my face code. I am proud of my work and for others to recognize that I've done a good job is just like I said, flattering. I've used other people's face codes before just because they were for my non-canon Sheps. I've had so many Sheps. I think I am okay right now with my current two, though.

why do you assume i have one?

*hides straightjacket in the closet*

um, but yes, i agree - asked directly, yes, but posting it to a database...maybe when i have gotten sick of ME and no longer feel any connection at all to my character.

so, not likely.

and randomly, i loooove talking to shep's chosen LI. just some of the best convos are there. i sometimes wish there was a way to do multiple convo threads at once so i could get all the possibilities at once. i found that if you push a renegade "all turians are the same" line on kaidan, then back off at the last minute, he says "i'm here. i'm not going anywhere" in this really cool way - like he's comforting shep when she's frustrated. awesome. however, i cannot bring kyrie to say all turians are the same - she's suspicious of the council, but not blind. clearly garrus is okay. besides, that seems like such a selfish thing to say after kaidan's confession about his past.

bah, i'm rambling. anyhow, femshep ftw. i want more talk with the LIs and friends.

I've never given my facecodes to anyone. Like some others here I kind of feel they are mine. I took time and lovingly made them to fit image I had of her on my mind at the time.
If someone askes directly that would be different. It wouldn't be some faceless monstrous database. My Sheps aren't geth and they don't belong in databases.

Rambling is good from time to time. Specially when you go and say truths like FemShep ftw after it. :D

And I agree 200% with the part I bolded. More talks with LI:s and friends would be great.

Time to post pictures of how Jennifer is doing in ME2.

She helped Sergeant Chatka to fix the gunship. He didn't even thank her...
Posted Image
She also met Jack, but wasn't too impressed about her
Posted Image
In citadel she got to know that council were still bunch of idiots.
Posted Image
And sometimes you just have to stand still and listen. (I like this picture. She looks so formal.)
Posted Image
Sometimes you just want to smile. (One of the nicest pictures you can get is when you talk with Shiala when she touches your cheek.)
Posted Image
And ofc I like the impression of Shep when the asari with poetry reading Krogan problem says about sticking with humans for century and then they die.
Posted Image

So, that's what Jennifer has been doing. She's still single and kind of pissed that she didn't romance Liara.

You and some of the other regulars were so helpful to me over on the DA:O character showoff thread. It really sucks that anyone would try to rip off your hard work or try to trash it.

I'm a little ambivalent about sharing as well. Mostly because I become attached to my characters. The only one I've shared is my avatar, Andromeda. The rest are mine alone.

My Shep does look similar to the default. At first glance, I'm sure a lot of people would think she is just the default. I've made a lot of small tweaks. Like many others, I spent a long time "perfecting" her look. Even though she closely resembles the default, I don't think I'd ever be able to post her face code online. I'm attached to her and I don't think I could just give her up like that. Now if it was a different face that I just made for the fun of it, sure, I'd be willing to post that, but not Alex. She is too much apart of me, as dumb as that might sound.

On another note, have any of you ever re-canonized your Shep? I was playing ME2 as a Sentinel and now I'm actually thinking about going through on ME1 as a Sentinel and then importing that game into ME2 and making that my new Canon game. I think it suits Alexandra's personality better than Soldier.

I sometimes think of doing that. My canon is adept, but in ME2 I really enjoy playing Vanguard and at times it feels it would be better suited for her. I have one playthrough in ME2 with her as vanguard, but she's not changed to my canon, yet atleast. Ofc that would mean I'd need to play ME1 through as vanguard also or it wouldn't be 'true' canon. Which I already have done atleast once since my renegade is vanguard, but once more wouldn't hurt wouldn't it? Little bit more Hale's voice acting wouldn't be bad right? :D
