My screenshot folder is getting rather out of hand though...

I 've found Lair of the Shadow Broker has great lighting.  It makes femshep look really nice.

Wow... I'm so behind.

So, question to the screenshot flycam experts; is there ANY way to move the camera during cutscenes? I know there was an utterly awesome shot someone posted from the very opening of the Korlus mission, which had the camera moved to the side so femShep was crouching behind the barrier looking directly at the camera, with Garrus behind her, checking over his shoulder back the way they'd come. That shot is something I've tried to replicate and found impossible, because it's a cutscene that opens the mission so there's no way to move the camera.

I've had the same problem so...I'm curious to hear the answer to this as well.  In ME1, I think this could be done.  In ME2, not so much.

Since we've had games like DA, KOTOR, and ME especially (as in a game where being female is actually recognised in game and becomes part of the story etc.), do you guys now get put off by games that allow only male protagonists to be played?

I definitely find myself turning my nose up to games that dont allow me a choice.

(i know theres men in here too lol but you know what i mean)

You should.  I am so tempted into buying a better one but then I wonder if I should just wait til I can afford a gaming PC.  :(

Yes, I do.  I am so used to the option of playing as female now that I don't want to ever go back to the way things were.  I was very excited about the rumors that there would be female agents in Crackdown 2 but upon hearing that it wasn't true, the game only ended up being a rent for me.  :?

I noticed that at least Epic Games listened to its fans and added female COG soldiers to its arsenal.  Gears of War used to be a "sausage fest", if you know what I mean...lol.  I'm very excited for the game.  Anya Stroud is even featured in their advertisements.

I hope that more game companies will start to add more lead female characters or side characters to their games.  Commander Shepard has set the bar though.

Wow @ Anya Stroud. Looks like she could give even FemShep a run for her money. I'll have to look up that game

I definitely struggle with playing male PC only games now. No problem with it when i was younger but Bioware etc. have spoiled me <3

I imagine games like GTA, Heavy rain and Assasins creed with a female protagonist, and it'd just be awesome! They're so missing out! I doubt i'd even give them a second thought about buying them and just snap them up

Having the choice is pretty much required for me to getting interested about game. Specially if there's customize options for char then that should include gender too. If you can't customize your char at anyway then story matters more than gender of the character I'm playing. For example I liked Half-life and Halo. Alltho Freeman could actually be either one since he says so much in the games to give away his gender. :D

And I'm one of those odd male gamers who prefer female protagonists. Too many male ones there already.

I wonder if there are any 'Female Protagonist' groups set up, might help me find more games hehe

And there are definitely way too many male PC's!

I suppose as a male FemShep player it's not overly surprising that a game which forces a male protagonist isn't a dealbreaker for me. It's a matter that needs to be handled well or it's better you didn't tackle it at all, I feel; Epic is going to have to do a very good job with Gears 3 to convince me with this whole "female COG" thing.

Let me explain; I don't take the Gears franchise seriously. At all. I've played hundreds of hours of Horde, I've beaten the games, but on the whole I regard it as intellectually sound and worthwhile as a homemade Jackass knock-off. It's a complete space marine farce, all the better for being played in-universe serious; wearing a helmet actually does mean you get killed off, you have a chainsaw bayonet attached to an oversized SMG (sorry, the Lancer is a ******-poor rifle), everything about 'Cole Train', the fact that every member of your squad is built like a bar fridge with a head stapled to the top of it - it's completely ludicrous. The characters are already so completely beyond reason I don't identify with them at all - they barely even seem to be the same species - so I don't have any attachment to them regardless of gender. They could be completely mute and named 'Subject A' and 'Subject B' and I wouldn't be any more or less interested in them as individuals. Making one of them female - and 'athletic' as compared to the Marcus/Dom 'rectangle' body design - only makes it look like the setting is trying to make sense and the characters are trying to become sympathetic, which I simply don't feel the property is capable of. Really - how likely is she to be a well-developed character as opposed to one of the Female Soldier archetypes (as I think of them; the Vasquez, the Sex-Change Patton, and the Gunkitten)? I haven't exactly been impressed with the character writing to date.

Ultimately I prefer the female option as long as it's handled neutrally (Halo: Reach) or very well (Bioware, by and large), but if you're going to phone in a stereotype just work on the rest of the game instead. Besides - who's ever going to live up to FemShep?

(See how I brought it around to relevant at the end there?)

I definitely pay more attention now as to whether the PC is male or female, and prefer a female PC. At the same time, I wouldn't outright refuse to play a game because of a male lead - depends on the game and what else it's got going for it.

However, as Vralenalien said, if customisation is available, and you couldn't choose gender, then I wouldn't be interested in playing. No excuse for that.

EDIT: Managed to contradict myself...durr

I'd sure love to know why it didn't post my actual reply:
With Bioware's focus on characters, I choose to make that statement a challenge rather than a pronouncement of doom.

so, i was gonna take and then post some more screenshots, but i appear to have fried my vid card - honest to god. it had been acting up a bit anyhow. guess my ME habits sped it on its way. thank goodness i had pretty much everything backed up on an external hard drive. i and my screenshotting may be MIA for a while (sigh)

here's the last few i one i took before the card died on me. i guess it was just too hot to handle:

Ouch, sorry about the video card. Hopefully you get things up and running again soon. Love that screenie. They look like they are trying to dance.

@Jib
Wow, beautiful job. It really does look like they are both sharing a very tender moment.

@Jane
I really enjoyed reading Diana's backstory. My Shep is a Spacer/War Hero as well. I'm always interested in reading others interpretations of Sheps past. There are only little clues and it's fun to see how others shape a background with what little information we are given.

@Iwakura
Shep really is so darn expressive isn't she?

I've always had a soft spot for games that allow us to also play as a female. I think part of it is since I am a female, I can connect to the main character a bit more if they are also female. That doesn't mean that I downright refuse to play a game with a male protagonist. However, I find myself drawn to games that actually give me to choice to play as a female.

Thanks for reminding me that Shai needs to feed her fish.  She is going to have Liara up in her cabin once the suicide mission is over.  You just saved her some embarassment. :D
