Re: Why FemShep?
Well, in KotoR 100% and TSL 99% of my characters where Lady Revans/Exiles, due to the lack of proper beards (in K1). I'm not sure, but I think I tried creating a ManShep first but on the low level of details I had to run the game on at the time berads look awful... and then Jennifer Hale just got me hooked.
I tend to try games with a male character first if I get a beard that can rival that of Oghren or at least Gordon Freeman.

But I think the game that really started my preference for female Charactrs was Champions of Norrath, for reasons a look at these wallpapers should reveal.

@Scamper...eww...Ash is not attractive...even if it is girl/girl action

She's a soldier through and through, but I think Ash is easily one of most beautiful women in the game. She's attractive without it being forced onto the player or as "in your face" as say Miranda.

So I'm guessing that sentiment excludes your Shepard?

^_^Haha, I kid but really now, you were kind of asking for it, calling Ashley ugly and all...... Ashley's not too conventional in appearance yet she is still appealing.

Uh...were you talking about my comment? Because that was obviously a joke I couldn't help making given Chugster's earlier remark. If so, lighten up.

This!
I remember reading back before ME1 shipped that with Ash they were going for an "attractive co worker" look instead of uber videogame-babe. You can see the change in attitudes when ME2 comes along...
I like Ash, character-wise and design-wise, and if I ever get my own dudeshep through ME2 I probably will just leave him faithful to her.

I know. I can appreciate Miranda's unique look, but it's not personally to my taste. I understand that other folks may feel that way about Ash, but I think she's goddess beautiful...

As for the men in the game... I find Kaidan super attractive, but he has some shots in ME with really bad lighting where he looks pretty strange, which is unfortunate. Jacob's a cutie, I think, but I've never romanced him because all my Sheps are Kaidan or Liara loyal. Prefab ManShep has features that are a little too chiseled for my tastes... And secretly... I think Conrad Verner is hot, that is, until he opens his fool mouth. Sigh.

The thing is... this is all pretty subjective. And I wouldn't ever want to try to impose my tastes or preferences on others. I don't personally find turians physically attractive, but I like having Garrus as a squadmate and I don't want to kill the buzz for those who do want to romance him. There's more to a character than looks-- see my Conrad Verner example above-- although looks are clearly emphasized in a video game since they are so carefully designed.

I agree, avalon. I just want to clarify that I do think Miranda is beautiful in her own way but I simply have a girl crush on Ash. (;

Umm... Yeoman Kelly looks OK. Jack is not attractive (in a traditional sense). Samara is a matriarch and as such "dressed for her role" (-> Lorik Quiin (probably mis-spelled)). So I guess you're referring to Miranda.
Miranda was designed for perfection, of which she is fully aware and she also admits being "cocky".

I don't hesistate in criticising Miranda's looks only because she is set up to be the "perfect" woman in both appearance and skills. While her face is interesting and for the most part, well designed, they should have gone with the more conventional ideal of beauty--that of a more slender jawline which a lot of people here seem to prefer. Miranda looks better in the iPhone game; Jacob is vice-versa.

Kaidan looks average to me (but I still love him as a romance option) as does just about every other character in ME1......which is something I have come to love in comparison with the over the top, above-average characters we see in ME2. And yeah, Conrad Verner ain't too shabby.....I guess I should feel a little embarrassed for saying that!Posted Image

Oops!? What happened? Did I miss something?

Not sure what transpired here exactly (but then again, I'm kinda daft in these matters); but I'd rather we all just stay. I like to think of our Femshep community as High Brazil in the movie "Erik the Viking": we're all just terribly nice to one another! :) Usually, at least. I hope you'll just stay.

Oh I know, but like I said it's a stylistic change they've deliberately pursued going into the second game. Samara would be every bit as capable (and attractive) with her outfit zipped up, for example. I'll agree that Yeoman Kelly is attractive in that nice girl-next-door way, and Miranda's perfection didn't neccesitate spandex. I actually like Miranda as a character, but sometimes the outfit does make me laugh a bit.

Wha!? What do you mean Ash is not attractive? LOL. I think she very good looking, actually. Not totally 'hot' per se, or refined pretty (like Kyrie, for example) but Ash is certainly a fine looking woman; sexy in many ways. And a great and loyal buddy to bring along!

AFAIK Miranda's face is a carbon copy of Yvonne Strahovsky, so tweaking that would be weird.
I personally believe that that "perfect appearance" thing referes to her boobs (can I say that here?) and booty.

And I think Jack is incredibly beautiful... I don't know exactly how to speak to "attractive (in a traditional sense)." If traditional sense means "has long hair and no tattoos" then, okay, that's a point I'll concede, of course :)

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I personally think Ash is very attractive. She has sort of a ruggish beauty to her. If that makes sense. I love that she has such a strong personality. It suits her so well. She's my Sheps partner in crime after all.

I agree, but not only the female squad members suffer from this. Jacob is also glued into his "armor", Garrus walks around with a hole in it, Thane's outfit exposes vulnerable areas to the enemy (even though that was now explained somewhat in his dossier). Sometimes I felt like Shepard was the only one suitably dressed for combat.

I'm glad that they didn't go down the same path with Liara in LotSB.

Re: FemShep

When I first picked up ME1 in the shop I knew nothing about it, but it sounded interesting and was on sale, so I bought it. When I got home and found out I could play as a female, I was pleasantly surprised as my usual style of games generally featured a male PC. As soon as I started playing and heard Jennifer Hale speaking, I was sold. Had no idea who she was at the time, but she brought such depth of emotion to the role that I was immediately immersed in the adventures of this strong, capable and frankly kickass woman. After that one playthrough I had no desire to even try playing as MaleShep. As far as I was concerned, Commander Shepard was female, and that was that.

I think the characters designers did it on purpose to elicit just that reaction. I'm looking forward to seeing what sort of comic relief he'll provide in ME3.

Apparently the art team wanted total control over how the party members looked in each scene, that's why we weren't allowed to equip them with armors...

The weird thing about Jacob's outfit is it's like half a one. The upper part looks like it might have some protection, shoulder pads and all, but then the bottom is like he's just wearing jeans. I agree with you, though - for a game supposedly about people fighting in potentially hazardous environments it does feel really weird that Shepard is the only one who dresses for the role.
