EDIT: Actually, my Kira can't really wear it, as it gives rise to a few clipping conflicts (not errors, really, as I'm the one causing those, of course) with her particular hair style and the high rim on Aria's outfit. But who's counting, right? If it looks good, she'll wear it.

So I uploaded Shai and Liara's first kiss to youtube. I went into a whole lot of detail in the vid description. lol. I wish I could sit down and write fan fic, maybe I will but I'm a major procrastinator. Check it out if you would like. The way I roleplay Shai Shepard's story is that she never romanced Liara back on the SR1. She lied to Liara about her feelings and said she didn't feel the same way that Liara felt back then. She was scared to get close to her for fear of losing her. She's always had this fear ever since losing her whole family on Mindoir which is why she never had any close friends and never any lovers.
She is the one who ends up dying and when resurrected by the Lazarus Project, she is angry at first for being brought back to life. She always felt like she should be dead when everyone around her has fallen. Shai also has the sole-survivor background. She even angrily berates Liara for getting her body back. "You did this to me!" she shouts. Shai hates looking at herself in the mirror. She looks at her cybernetic eyes and the ugly scars on her face and feels like a monster. Her decisions became rash and she almost jeopardizes the mission from her anger. Cerberus decides to give her intel on where to find the SB's location. She had been angry at Liara for being so different from the last time she saw her and they hoped that they could help her resolve their issues.
During the mission, Shai feels increasingly guilty for being such a jerk to Liara. She may not care much for her own life but was amazed that anyone cared so much for her that they would risk everything to bring her back. Old feelings that she had always tried to keep under control were resurfacing. Liara herself was finding it difficult to let go of this special person. She had always sensed that Shai cared for her but didn't know how to show it. Back before she died, Shai nearly drunkenly admitted that she had romantic feelings for her.
And so after the SB's defeat, we see this scene that occurs. Shai ignores the thoughts in her head that tell her she is nothing but a machine and tool, and is in fact a human that deserves to feel. Liara senses there is something different in Shai. Especially since she just hugged her because Shai never makes any physical contact with anyone unless absolutely necessary. This is Shai's first kiss in her entire life.
A very beautiful and touching video! I'll quote the accompanying text in full too, as it's equally -- if not more -- powerful. You're an excellent writer; and the thought-process and depth of care and emotion behind the story makes me feel as deeply for Shai as I usually only feel for my own Kira.

Question. When developing the personality of a new FemShep, do you base her character around a specific personality trait, and then develop and elaborate it around that focal point? Or, do you create a general character with no noteworthy elements to her character, and then deepen and enrich her from there? I'm curious.

I've only created one Shepard. She's kind of just morphed as time went on. At 1st I just sort of when with the pre-defined characteristics coupled with my thoughts of how a spacer/war hero would react to any given situation. Over time I became more and more interested in Alex as a human being. What really made her think the way she did, What happened in her past that effected her so much in the present. She's taken on a personality all of her own. I'm finding out even more about her as I write things down. Stories and ideas come to mind, that I never would have thought of otherwise. It's been a really rewarding experience. Maybe not your typical approach but its worked for me. I don't know if I'd be able to use the same approach is I ever created a second Shepard however.

augmentations into Shai's personality. You make it mean something when
BioWare just left it as a random Deus Ex Machina device.
Thanks. Yeah, I had this image of her in my head of this damaged person and I feel like the scars and eyes add so much to her. Everytime I look at her, I just want to hug her but good thing she has Liara now.

@ chig - i love your flycam stuff. so awesome. it is hilarious to me that noah is a renegon. she's just so pixie looking. i now want to see video of her tossing mercs out a window or something. kyrie is paragrade, so she generally is a good person, but she has this hard edge to her that sometimes shocks me with what she says to people. but it works for RP.
armors? geh. what i really want is something that is mostly blue/gray and has blue lights on it.
the kestrel looks good for the glow effect

but given that she's an adept whose attitude towards armor is "i want to be able to move - barrier and cover is enough for me" it seems a little heavy.

^ that is like the armor i colored for my very first kyrie (see my current avatar pic) - and it was like the N7 stripe, just blue for the paragon. i liked it, but i want glowing stuff.
i may go for the hoplite:

only i wish it had blue lights on it. heh. if only the citadel had an armor shop. the normandy would never afford any upgrades ever and only 3 people would make it through the suicide mission.

I would say the first choice: I base them around specific personality traits, which I then elaborate on.
But it was also because I started putting more thought into my characters once I saw the extent of characterization some of you guys put into yours.
For my 1st Shep (Fem), which I am doing over, I played renegade just because I could. But I started playing with her again, and I needed to justify why she is the way she is--why she's an a**hole to everybody, why she doesn't save the rachni queen or the council. So I gave her the personality trait that she doesn't ever take responsibility for her actions, or have remorse or self-blame. She's kind of like Jack in that she gets warm feelings when she fights too, so that's why she joined the Alliance--she gets paid to fight, and she got out of a crappy life.
I made a ManShep that romances Liara, but as I was playing him, I kept choosing anti-alien choices. So, I made it so he only has an asari fetish, but he's pretty apprehensive of aliens and whatnot after the mess on Elysium and Mindoir.
For my 2nd FemShep, I played her through first because I wanted a paragon, Kaidan-faithful Shep. I'm redoing some of her choices, however, such as keeping the CB--she destroys it instead to get revenge on Cerberus for what they did to her unit on Akuze.
And sorry for rambling.

That's basically what I did with Noah. All I knew from the start was that I wanted her to be a survivor. With that in mind I chose her background (Earthborn) and her psychological profile (Sole Survivor). It just sort of went from there. She became a Renagon, which suits her just fine - she's pragmatic in her decisions but not without compassion. To say it with Thane's words (well, nearly): Survival is an art, and she is a master.

for me, characters appear in my head like actors showing up for a casting call - i have a general resume for them and a general sense of how they are, but they show me nuances for their personalities as time goes on.
...yeah. i don't ever feel like i 'develop' character when i write. i just succeed or fail at listening to the character and accurately portraying how they are in words.

Thanks! Don't tempt me - I just might do it. I have to admit that I never tossed that merc out of the window; I only ever gave him that speech about the sound his body would make if it'd hit the ground.

It's a really bad photo/description of her, but it's Zorya. Damn Xbox photos. And it's an older picture too.
I've changed her complexion (to look a bit older), her nose, lipstick, maybe her face structure....and now I'm thinking about changing her name to Zelda. I want to make her pretty, but not overly pretty too. She's an infiltrator, and she's been in battle, so I want her to have a bit of a battle-weary face.
I kind of prefer Zorya or Zora (since she's Ukrainian), but one name reminds me of Tali and the other of Zaeed. :S

I'm curious.
uh...okay. sure thing.
okay, i lost all my old ME1 saves long before ME2 came out. i recreated a face 7 kyrie based on what i remembered my old sheps looking like:

^ pretty standard. she's the default face w/ tweaks to blonde. she got pretty renegade by the end - just kept going psycho on me (i couldn't stay away from the interrupts)
then i made "sophia" shepard, who was a spacer - i think sole survivor? maybe she was a war hero. anyhow, i used face 1 for her - first time i ventured outside of the face 7 mafia. i also gave up on the cute upturned noses and gave in to the #2 nose which is slightly hooked and a little bigger:

i really liked her face, but i wasn't sold on her. she didn't fit the shepard i had in mind. mebbe because she wasn't a colonist and i had already fixed on the farm-girl turned marine thing. mebbe it was the eyes - as much as i was drawn to the BIG eyes, i could never feel like they were "my" shepard. i also had the feeling she wanted to leave kaidan for garrus. she got imported to ME2, but never left omega.

the hacked hair project kyrie ^ really blended the two. face 1, eye 1, actually. same eyebrows as before

i did a straight import of her- no tweaks - then hacked the hair. she looked very good bald, too. and by the end of me2, was looking very much like the shep i'd always had in mind:

this latest version of kyrie had only slight tweaks from the last, but she somehow "settled" into what felt right for her.

^ face 1, eyes are the defult (7, i think). i changed up the eyebrows - that made a HUGE difference. they're a little thicker - less sculpted, too. they gave her an "oh really?" sort of expression much of the time. somehow they made her look less overall b*tchy to me, but also more capable of loosing her temper. amazing how much eyebrows express, i think.

when i imported her to ME2 ^ i did a few small tweaks. a slight thinning of the cheeks, a slight shortening of the nose, and slight increase to the mouth, and a change of makeup to make it correct again (me2 makeup is all goofed up). the result made her look more like me1 than the straight import did (i think anyhow).
so, yeah. the final kyrie is prettiest, i think, but without looking any more "modely" than before. she's like a girl in a soap commercial, if anything. i feel like i finally got the blonde-marine-who-doesn't-realize-she's-pretty thing mostly down by now. that was the hope, anyways.
