Damn.
That black armor really looks good. I should try it for Abby.
But I'm lazy and all that modding thing sounds complicated.
What about stats ? you lose them all ? Not that they make a big difference, but she's a vanguard and having a 45% boost in melee damage comes in handy.
You can add stats. Hypothetically, you could add all the bonuses of all the armors to one piece, but it's not something I personally ever tried, so I'm not sure if there'd be any glitches if you did so. I imagine not, but...

is that the updo + a bun? that must have been a pain to hack. i only dabbled in hacking the upswept styles and it made my head hurt.
It wasn't that bad. I picked the tight high bun in the creator, so all I had to change was the hair model to the regular bun. Didn't mess with the scalp textures at all.
Okay, so is the hairstyle MODEL actually just the bun, or is the bun two separate models, one for the hair on the scalp, and one for the bun itself? I've seen one NPC wearing the bun hairstyle with no bun, making it just look like a really close-cropped haircut, and I wanted to mod that onto Jessica for her "hair-growing-in" look after she spends some time in the medical regeneration equipment, instead of using the curly "pixie cut" model. Is that possible using Gibbed?

Also, Teagan is even more stunningly gorgeous now, if such a thing is possible.

Question. When developing the personality of a new FemShep, do you base her character around a specific personality trait, and then develop and elaborate it around that focal point? Or, do you create a general character with no noteworthy elements to her character, and then deepen and enrich her from there? I'm curious.
That's basically what I did with Kira. I went with Sole Survivor, Colonist, because I figured that particular psychological profile propels one, par excellence, towards wanting a favorable outcome for humanity (and the galaxy as a whole), and would make her mentally ready to fight for said cause. In the words of Anderson: "She knows how tough life can be out there. Both her parents were killed when slavers attacked Mindoir."
Overwhelmingly Paragon, she does exhibt traits of the Paragade/Renagon at times. Helping Talitha was one of the most giving moments in her career (and it really helped to resolve a few of her own issues as well). Yet she shot Balak point-blank, without blinking or feeling bad about it, even. As the good Doctor Mordin put it so succinctly: "Lots of ways to help people. Sometimes heal patients; sometimes execute dangerous people. Either way helps." She also handed Jacob's father that gun (so he could kill himself and regain at least some dignity). And the guy who wanted to start up Jack's facility all over again, he didn't live to tell about it, either (although, in hindsight, she feels kinda bad about that; sure, re-opening that place was a sickening prospect to her, but he was, after all, a victim of that place as well).
My Kira is full of compassion, really; she will go out of her way to help those who genuinely want to be helped, but she's got exactly no time for games. If you're outright scum, like Balak, you just die -- clean and simple. If you're Talitha, she will sit with you, for the entire day if need be, and try and talk you down. Kira is not a softie you can hope to take advantage of. She's a person of compassion and care -- there's a difference. And those who didn't understand that nuance, like Balak, found themselves at the wrong end of a bullet.

yes, it is. and you can see it all the time at the kasumi DLC party. i think it requires the following codes:
************
Under the morph head tab:
Hair Mesh = BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.LowBun.HMF_HIR_Mbu_MDL
Under the Textures tab:
0 Scalp Diff = BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.Pulled.HMF_HIR_SCP_Pll_Diff
1 Scalp Norm = BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.Pulled.HMF_HIR_SCP_Pll_Norm
2 Scalp Spec Shift =
3 Scalp Spec Shift 2 =
4 Hair Diff = BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.MidBun.HMF_HIR_Mbn_Diff
5 Hair Norm = BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.MidBun.HMF_HIR_Mbn_Norm
6 Hair Mask = BIOG_HMF_HED_PROMorph_R.Base.HMF_HED_PROCustom_Blank_White
7 Hair Tang = BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.MidBun.HMF_HIR_Mbn_Tang
…
20 Scalp Spec = BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.Pulled.HMF_HIR_SCP_Pll_Mask
21 HED Tang = BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.Pulled.HMF_HIR_SCP_Pll_Tang
****
^ not sure about #20 and 21 there, but i'm pretty sure how you do it is to set the hair mesh to a bun style with the above codes. midbun is the one used on the messy bun and the french twist. then you just set the spec shift to "None" so that there is no bun sticking off the back of that particular mesh.
that is my understanding, anyhow.

I can verify with my saves the Hair Mesh is the actual bun only. So if you set Hair Mesh to "none" you will get the hair without the bun.
The part on the head is a texture (these are the values I pulled from a Teagan save)
HED_Scalp_Diff = BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.Pulled02.HMF_HIR_SCP_Pll02_Diff
HED_Scalp_Norm = BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.Pulled02.HMF_HIR_SCP_Pll02_Norm

HED_Scalp_Spec = BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.Pulled02.HMF_HIR_SCP_Pll02_Mask
...
It is confusing. There are two sets of scalp textures. sagequeen posted the scalp texture used for the highbun, midbun and lowbun models. The one's I posted are for the iconbun model.

What's the difference between the textures for high/mid/lowbun and iconbun?
Also, the scalp texture is not the only part of the bun meshes; it seems like there's an actual different head model, since the hairline is raised a bit. Just editing the texture makes it look like the hair is sprayed onto the skull (which in reality, being only a texture, it pretty much is). Is there a different model somewhere used for the bun hairstyles? I have no idea how to locate all this or what it all means just by looking at it.
A comparison side by side, using Hock's aforementioned party.

But when ME2 came out, the day before it came out actually, my Xbox died and I lost every save game I had. So I had to wait months to play the game, get a new 360 and play through ME1 all over again. So I did FemShep first and I had no idea what I wanted for her except that I wanted her to be Asian and have the Earthborn/War Hero backstory.
And this Shep, I don't know where she came from really, she just...formed herself, if that makes any sense. Nona Shepard - growing up on the streets she was never given a name but with the people she hung out with named her Shepard because she hung out at this dive bar called Shepards. One of the waitresses took pity on her and let Nona hang out there when she was little (like helping out with errands or mopping the floors or whatever) so Nona had always been called Shepard. Just Shepard. But when she wanted out of the gang life and off Earth she joined the Alliance. She actually joined because it was either that or her gang was going to go after her b/c she had turned on the Tenth Street Reds over conflicting ideas on where the gang should go. So anyway when the recuriter wanted her full name (i play as though Shep hadn't had an id or at least an legal one so the military would set her up with one) she sarcastically put No Name on the form. He ran with it and thus Nona.
As for the War Hero thing, she really wasn't looking to be a hero. She just wound up that way - she has the personality of "someone has to do it so stop b*tching about it and DO IT". So that's how she wound up saving Elysium - everyone else was running around like a chicken with their heads cut off and she calmly and cooling just took over. Somebody's got to do it right? So she doesn't think she is a hero - she just did her damn job. Nona is practical but not a renengade (to my surprise I was really going for that too) she has a full Paragon bar with I think a bar or a little more in renegade. She dislikes idiots, incompetance and unprofessionalsim.
As for love, Nona was on lockdown. She doesn't like people getting too close to her. She has her Commander persona and then there is personal part of her, the Just Shepard part that she doesn't let anyone else see. Mainly because she did have people close to her on Earth and that all went badly and also because she's just a very private person. However, she didn't expect a blue archeolgist to walk into her life. Nona had no idea how to handle Liara. And that's how Liara squeezed through all those walls that Nona had up around her personal life and heart. For me Nona was the one that did most of the stuttering and squriming around Liara - she just had NO IDEA how to even compartmentlize Liara. (she has all these little boxes where she puts people in, the Military box, the Friend or Foe boxes) Liara and Wrex are the only ones who defied those boxes for her. Wrex b/c they be bros and Li because - well Nona was just flabbergasted by her. Thus, here lies Nona flat on her face at the feet of a Asari archeologist - totally in love with her.
(Tali and Garrus become good friends, Nona's support in ME2, not that she didn't like them in ME1 but she put them in the little Friend box she has in her head. In ME2 they become the buddies she needs. Plus poor Garrus wound up being her bro since Wrex wasn't there and had to hear all the drunk whining about Liara and how Nona had messed everything up for Liara - Nona thinks it's her fault that Li even got into the situation she was in, in Illium - never mind the fact that Li can take care of herself - Nona totally believes it's her fault. Same with Kaiden on Horizon - she feels like she failed him as a Commander.)
I don't know what the time frame is for the game or even if they give one but I write it in my head as 2 years. Mainly because it would take that long for Nona to actually give in and want to be with Liara - it takes her awhile to figure things out.
And WOW, wall of text, sorry! But I really fell in love with Nona as a character. I mean I've always liked Shepard and her story but Nona forced me to actually role play and I just loved it. So hence the rambles.
And it's funny the more I play as Nona the more I flesh out her character - I swear it's so addicting.

Heh, that tends to happen! My best characters build themselves in my head; they reveal parts of themselves here and there and it always surprises me how it fits into the whole picture.
I could ramble (and have a bit too much in this thread already) about Jessica until the cows came home. In fact I didn't even bother putting up the profile breakdown that a lot of other people did a while back because it was over two pages by the time I finished it. Two pages in Microsoft Word, yet. Way too long for anyone to bother reading in a forum thread. But yeah, it's not just you that can put up walls of text about your Shepard.

Yes! I really thought Nona would be a renegade but she adamantly refused. I think that is the best part of making characters - it feels like I'm watching their story play out - not just a story. Sounds silly but there you go.
I love hearing about Jessica and all the other Sheps. It makes it so fun to see how different each Shepard can be, how creative everyone is with their stories.
Have you ever thought about writing Jessica's story? I would love to read it. Seriously, that or just the two pages in Microsoft Word.
Also I don't know if this is weird or not but - Min is another one that I really like and yet I'm just not as attatched to her as Nona. For some reason Nona is just 'it' for me. Canon I guess, I mean I love all my other Sheps but Nona is just....different for some reason. I don't know how to explain it without sounding crazy...
I'm also very glad you guys are very understanding about the walls of text - thank you!

Oh yeah, you're right. I have no idea what parameters change the 'skull size' I guess you'd call it. Things get a bit wacky when I've tried to change too much using Gibbed, like clipping and stuff. Maybe someone else has an idea of what causes the difference?
high/mid/lowbun have that widow's peak on the forehead, iconbun is the one that looks pulled too tight (it's what I currently have on Teagan.)What's the difference between the textures for high/mid/lowbun and iconbun?

It's good not to be alone! I mean getting the response 'it's just a game, dude, chill' when I go into detail about my Shepards and their choices to other people, is just a downer. It's just nice to fangirl out with you guys. I mean I know this forum is for that exact thing but still it's nice.

Thanks for the link, I always forget there is a wiki for this game. And now I'm sad, okay not that sad, but still it was nice to think Shep and Co. roamed around for two years. I know it sounds far-fetched but I wanted to drag out the time not just for romances reasons either. I do every single side mission and it feels like it should be longer. I guess Shep was doing three or for side missions daily. Heh, I bet everyone was like...Can we have some leave here Commander? I'm tired!

I have other sheps. I'm currently making a playthrough with Hayley. I like her, but sometimes it feels odd hearing "Abby's" voice with a different face... The other day, after Horizon, I just "needed" to go back to Abby in ME1...
Don't worry about the 'wall of text'. I like reading how other people RP their sheps.
@sable, @aislinn, if you're concerned about clogging up the place here, there's the Shepard's story thread in the FemShep group. You might post your stories there. I'd like to read those as well.
