Also I don't know if this is weird or not but - Min is another one that I really like and yet I'm just not as attatched to her as Nona. For some reason Nona is just 'it' for me. Canon I guess, I mean I love all my other Sheps but Nona is just....different for some reason. I don't know how to explain it without sounding crazy...:crying:

I'm also very glad you guys are very understanding about the walls of text - thank you!

If that's weird, than there are a lot of werid people in this thread because you are definitely not alone. I'm a one Shepard girl. I created Alex and while I've made some tweaks to her appearance over time, she is still fundamentally the same. To me, Alex is the one and only Shepard. I've tried creating other Shepards. I just never get very far with them. It just looks wrong. Whenever the speak it throws me off because they aren't supposed to sound like Alex. I suppose that's just a sign of really good voice acting among other things.

Question. When developing the personality of a new FemShep, do you base her character around a specific personality trait, and then develop and elaborate it around that focal point? Or, do you create a general character with no noteworthy elements to her character, and then deepen and enrich her from there? I'm curious.

I've totally missed this question earlier.

My Shepards more or less define themselfs. After I pick up their backgrounds evolving starts. More often than not they've started to deepen themself when the intro stops playing. Even if I've made my decision that they do something later in game they might have evolved differently and my choice then changes. I'm not sure if any of this make any sense to anyone but me tho. :D

It's hard to explain what really goes through my head when I make characters.

I actually think I may be one of the weird ones; I do not merely have multiple Shepards, I may be one of the few without a 'canon' Shepard. I just can't quite get the face that makes me say "That's it!", as opposed to "She'll do fine, let's shoot something!"

And I just really, really enjoy building characters - probably why I've been tabletop gaming for the past two decades. I love the defining questions; did Earthborn Shepard even have a birth certificate, or is her first official existence an arrest record? Why did the Colonist survive - struck and left for dead in the raid? Ran off into the hills to sulk after a fight with mom and watched in horror as the ship landed not a quarter-mile from her home? Found slicked with batarian blood in the ruins of a burned-out farmhouse and mutely refused to let go of dad's hunting knife until she's sedated by the medic?

I guess in answer to the question about how one personalizes a Shepard, there's your answer; I start with the big questions and work my way down to music, food, hobbies, guilty pleasures, all the little things. I weave them like tapestries from the answers that make up a life.

I like that part of it, too. I like defying the typical expectations when dreaming up that type of story. Colonist farm girls are well adjusted with lovely childhoods? Surely not all of them...

@ christmas & avalon - totally agree. i did a thread on that a while back (self promo? no...)

i saw an earthborn shep fanfic once who was actually a cerberus lab experiment that escaped. my own take on mindoir was always biotics manifesting themselves under stress. but i like how it could be anything.

loving the jacob/wilson pic, btw.

My colonist farmgirl is quite similar to how I picture my canon Cousland in DAO (I even gave her the same name, although all they share is backstory similarities and fluid sexuality)- she comes from a close, happy family and turns into death on wheels in the aftermath of the attack (so definitely slicked with batarian blood in the ruins of a burned-out farmhouse, only not so mute). I imagine she's quite the the handful for a few years, but time and a realization that it's bad everywhere keeps her from falling too far into a pit of self-pity.

Can I say that FemShep is one of the main reasons that I've become so enamored with ME? I was just going to play to play, but there is something so empowering about being a strong, non-sexualized woman in a video game. I love my DAO characters, but none of them come across nearly as vibrantly as FemShep. Hale's voice work is truly phenomenal.

As someone who loves taking cool screenshots, my biggest complaint is how crap ME looks on my laptop, even with tweaking. I've snuck a peek at ME2 and it's much better. I guess I'll just have to suffer through 25 hours of pixelated shadows to get to the pretty graphics.

Oh, and here's Brand Shepard. She's a Paragade Vanguard and I'm pretty sure that her skin and eyes glow in the dark. It's fun:

Also, she hates me for putting her in yellow.

Wow, your poll in that thread makes me realize just how unpopular 'Ruthless' is as a background.  It's easily my favorite, as it gives Shepard a dark side to counter the whole 'galactic savior/hero' thing.

I thought it would be interesting but I dont really like running around with the title:

BUTCHER OF TORFAN.

Getting called Chicken Chaser was worse enough in Fable.

Very true.  I only have one myself....just can't see anyother character besides my Madeline duking it out with Saren or he Collectors....anything else just isn't right.

I kind of like that moniker.  No matter what Shepard does or who she becomes, she can never escape her past on Torfan.  It's troubling, and I think it would wear on Shepard a bit (it does with mine, at least).

Funny story......

So I get a comment on one of my Kathryn and Liara romance videos yesterday that says something along the lines of, "This just looks wrong without a man!"  I reply to the girl(I looked at her profile) and ask her why she is watching it if it bothers her so.  Her excuse was that she was trying to get the face codes by watching the video, even though it's gross to her.  I'd love to magically get the face codes from watching a youtube video!!!

I would have told her any that facecodes she magically managed to glean from the youtube video would only succeed in creating a character who would secretly yearn for Liara... and no matter what other romances she chose, that Shepard would be just be a sad xenophilic lesbian missing her sweet blueberry lover...

LOL!

Yes, well, I have yet to meet someone that can reverse engineer face codes from a picture or a video.  I mean, you may be able to get some of the letters and numbers from the more obvious features, like if she used face 7, her hairstyle, eye-shape, mouth-shape.  But the finer features would be difficult to recreate.

@Ryn: What a stupid comment for that girl to make! A few weeks ago someone commented on my character, Devi, in a video stating it was a well known "fact" that only lesbians sport the short haircut. I thought it was funny yet irritating to have a certain hair style pigeon-holed, especially when I already designed a lesbian character who sported a bun style....

Youtube comments are serious business, yo. B)

I don't think that girl was smart enough to figure out the sliders, based on the rest of her trollish comments.

LOL, what a nut!

More to the point, erm, why did she want that face code?! Could it be... she was attracted to your Kathryn? I submit to you that anyone desperate enough to want to magically extract a face code from merely looking at a Femshep's face either has a major crush on her, or... no, that's it. :P

Thanks for sharing. :)
