Ha! Nice. You've one of the most hilarious, well-thought out, expressive, and detailed FemSheps on this forum.  Kyrie's character, especially in your fics, is so...right. You characterize her SO well, and your writing is very good.

@ ross: that glitch happened right at the beginning of ME1. whenever i clicked on joker and he started to tallk, one eye tried to go left and the other tried to go right and she just went cross eyed. i took a screencap and have never been able to duplicate it since.

Heh, you should have gotten a review already, one in which I once again marvel at you characterizations. May I say the chapter in which Kyrie discovers Garrus' crush/infatuation (would that be the correct terminology for what he feels for FemShep?) to be....heartwrenching, sad, wonderful, and terrible all at one?

Terrible because Kyrie can't reciprocate those feelings. (sp?) I mean, that chapter, above all, made my heart hurt. You did a wonderful job. Kudos to you and your wonderful writing.

I try to make each of my Shepards look unique, but there always seems to be a similarity between them.

I remember reading one conversation, I think Sagequeen was involved, about the timespan between the end of the first game and into the second. Some were saying one month, other said three. Regardless, there was a lentgh in time that's sort of up for grabs and open to interpretation.

I think my Shep did a little target practice, working on her fire arm skills to offset her biotic talents. Other than that, I could imagine her hanging out with her crew when she had some down time, watching movies with the crew of the SR1, having some down time with Liara, talking with Chakwas. She tried to get Garrus to watch the Dark Knight with her, but he was a bit busy working on the Mako.  

I'd imagine Holly would give her crew a bit of shore leave somewhere nice.  She'd spend some quiet time alone, for rest and contemplation.

Trista would take a romantic vacation with Kaidan.  

Aislinn would probably throw a giant party, to help with the crew's morale.  She's a bit of a socialite, so I could also see her going out on the town with the squad and having a good time.

Constance would probably have to be coerced into taking a break by Liara, as she's a workaholic.  She can't say no to those big blue eyes.

@ sapphy - i love it! so nice to see alexis, as i've gotten to read all about her. it's sort of like "oh, yeah. i know you!" she's very pretty. and i think you did a good job making the sheps look different.

re: time in between ME1 and ME2 - well, i wrote it all in the fanfic. it's disjointed, but it does follow a plot arc of its own. i actually originally thought she'd have a month before she died, then somehow i thought it was 3, but i liked 1 mo. better and it turns out it WAS 1 month, so i've actually re-arranged the fanfic to reflect that. i pulled some inbetween chapters that now aren't "canon" for me (wasn't enough time), but i think i'll re-post them separately later as a "if they had enough time" AU fanfic.

suffice it to say, kyrie and kaidan didn't get much downtime together. it is mean to them as an author, but it made horizon & what happens after make more sense in my head that way. they had a lot left unresolved when shepard died.

I always envisioned that given the losses to both the Alliance fleet and the Citadel fleet, regardless of your decision towards the Council, that the Alliance and Citadel wouldn't be able to grant Shepard and the Normandy much "down time". I see them getting enough time off for medical recoveries and debriefings (at most a week), and then they get shipped off to handle more problems in the wake of Saren's defeat.

So, as much as Alexis would have enjoyed taking shore leave with a certain lieutenant, duty calls.

@Sage: Thanks. I've got tons of screenies of Alexis that I just never bothered to do anything with, apart from occasionally pull up myself. I actually like the way Valerie looked better in ME1. She had a much harsher appearance, between the scar I gave her and her hair, but ME2 softened her up. Oddly enough though, the softening of Alexis between the two game engines graphics is why I like her image better in ME2.

And I think you've been rather nice to both Kyrie and Kaidan, regardless of having to shorten their time together.

@ sapphy: i like the screens! i hope we get to see more of them. yeah, changes between ME1 and 2 throw me. i had to tweak kyrie to retain the same "feel" for her. she just looks a little more lost in me2, but maybe that's me reading into things.

i'm glad i wasn't too awful to k&k between games. i just really felt that since the "i loved you" was the first *we* hear kaidan say that, it ought to be the first time shepard heard the L-word, too. but that's me.



and i totally agree with you re: duty calls. i figure the normandy has a medbay and most of the citadel is in ruins. hence, liara and chakwas will have some company for a while. and since shepard's a spectre, they can sort of bend any rules about her leave time in a big way. yeah, i never saw shore leave forthcoming, much as i liked to imagine what would have happened.

@Sage: Not just you. I totally see that L-word drop on Horizon as the first utterance from either of them. Just always felt that there was never the "right moment" before then.

And, yeah, ME2 can give Shep that "lost" look. It works for Alexis, I think. Gives her a saddened, despondent look.

Yeah, Horizon was...something. Though, I suppose it just doesn't have that given weight if your romance option was Liara. While Ash certainly felt betrayed by my Shep's...decision...to join Cerberus, I don't feel that emotional ****slap that comes with having them vent at you if you were a love interest.



Cameron gets hardened!Liara, and no LotSB for her, as her creator doesn't have Xbox live. But on the somewhat bright side, I finally figured out a name for my Shep. I felt that giving her a unisex name was interesting, considering it may make people think she's a man when the first hear it. The name came to me when I was recruiting Grunt today. It's funny, I imagined Garrus calling her "Cam" for some reason, and the name sort of stuck.

I've an image of her with tan skin and that short curly dark hair, but my current Femshep, with her pale skin, long red hair and really bright blush had kind of grown on me. Though I will say that I'd like to tweak her mouth a little, seeing at I find it a bit too wide. Seeing how you guys style your Sheps had made me reconsider some aspect of my Shepard.



How did one go about recreating thier ME2 Shep in ME using the given facecode? Something about the letters and numbers representing clicks on the slide, I can't really recall. Ugh...



Oh, before I forget, I've wanted to ask you this, sage. What's Kaidan's appeal? I just...well, couldn't find him interesting, even though I took the time to learn about his history and viewpoints on galatic politics and aliens in general. I'm not hating him as a character, I'm just curious to know why you think Mr. Alenko holds a special place in Kyrie's heart.

Speculation is fun, and who's to say that they didn't just...hang out in between mission? Relay travel from system to system could take a couple hours. In that time, Cam could have some convos with Garrus and Tali, some snuggle time with Liara, or some target/biotics practice with Wrex and Ash.

oh wow. well, to keep it as short as possible, i actually didn't even notice kaidan the first time i played ME1, but then, i missed over half of the game - i did no side quests. as soon as the aliens showed up, i ditched the humans (like so many people do - bad sage!) i thought he was the red-shirted ensign and was surprised he lasted so long. the second game i actually went and talked to him and was surprised to find a very funny and nuanced character. then i realized there was a romance written in and i was intrigued enough to follow it with that femshep. since then, all my femsheps either romance him or i stop playing them.

as i tried to indicate in my fanfic, kyrie likes him primarily because he sees her as HER. together they are able to be real and human. i think that's what i find so compelling about their story. it's really just about two people who are caught between duty and reputation, but inside that shell is a real person that gets ignored. add in that kyrie - like kaidan - is a messy past and he's the first person who isn't intimidated by her and she's a goner. it think it's sweet. and despite admitting that asari are attractive, kyrie is definitely into men, which is hard because she tends to scare the h*ll out of them. 

i actually think that the games do a good job making LIs who are good matches for femshep. i mean, really, who could keep up with her? i think garrus, liara, and thane can. liara is sweet, and i think she and femshep have a special something. garrus and thane, too.

i guess i liked kaidan best because he wasn't a perfect fit and there was this tension there to me between the two of them about who is really "in charge." i dunno if i'm imposing traditional gender roles or what, but i feel like kaidan has a slightly "old fashioned chivalry" sort of vibe and i actually like that. femshep can be overwhelming, but kaidan doesn't take any crap from her - he also seems to want to protect her, even as he knows she can handle herself. while i initially hated the way he "second guessed" every dang thing shepard did (or seemed to), i later came to appreciate the honest opinion. i think this chapter pretty much summed up where i think their relationship was before the attack on the normandy. after...dunno. i'm waiting on BW for closure, since i'm holding out hope kaidan/femshep will get the same love liara/femshep did.

but i will be the first to acknowledge that kaidan is a really hard character to get to know. you pretty much have to play femshep and romance him to see the more nuanced sides of his introverted character. he's really funny in a deadpan, sarcastic way, and his relaxed confidence and complete calm under fire is almost uncanny.  basically, he's the kind of person who makes for a good long-term friend, not the flashy kind of person who draws attention to himself at the party. he's more the guy in the corner nursing the same beer all night long that shepard ends up getting a ride home with and then he manages to score her number and a coffee date as he drops her off.

huh. didn't i write that into my fanfic? i swear i did, or something like it.

edit: oh, and pretty much taking kaidan and liara as your squad = awesome. some of the BEST banter evar, kaidan at his funniest, and lots of things flying around and glowings of blue. it is the best squad ever.

well, anyhow. that probably meshes as much with the kaidan thread as it does here. if you want more answers, ask there. you'll get flooded with them.
